Creating a guild, growing it to 25, and then deciding to boot the members and start fresh on a new server with a GL transfer? This just happened to the guild I was in. Dude did a lot of work on it, but clearly had help along the way. I'm super conflicted about it. I couldn't find any info on it and don't want to clog the report button if it's not bannable. Seemed like wowhead was the place to ask. And yes, there were a great deal of materials and a bunch of gold in the vault when he left.
Links to blue posts/copies of Game Master letters would be greatly appreciated. I'm not particularly interested in a morality discussion, I think we can all agree karmically it's a bad thing he did. Really just looking for the 'black letter law' on the topic.
Thanks

To my knowledge... anything put into the guild bank is considered voluntarily donated and as such belongs to the guild leader. It's important to trust your GL. It's unfortunate this situation happened to you but I do not believe that anything would, in this case, be against Blizzards rules.

Actually, I think it may be possible to report for theft. I've heard of some cases where Guild Leaders do something like this and there was repercussions...
Not 100% sure though.
The logic is that while the GM does technically "own" the bank, they are not technically entitled to the full contents of the bank unless it's clearly meant for personal use (even with deposit only). If it was possible for other members to withdraw...then you may have a case.

no the GM can do anything he wants to with the guild because he owns it.

I'm sure I saw a blue post about something like this a little while ago.It went along the lines of the guild belongs to the whole guild and not just the GL,and although the GL is the head of the guild, that didn't give them the right to treat everything in the bank as their personal property.
I don't have the time to try and find the post right now,but if my memory is correct I would definately put a ticket in asap as I think you'd have a very strong case.

Opinions seem to differ, so I'd put in the ticket. Make it short, reasonable and specific (maybe include some names of fellow guildies who will support your case), and then ask if anything can be done. It's not going to cost you anything, and you can report the reply here for everyone's elucidation. And maybe you'll put this guy on the radar, even if you get a negative reply.
It's good you want to spare the GMs' time, but this seems sufficiently important to ask them for their opinion. In my opinion, anyway.

I agree with hymer, let us know how it goes.

In my opinion he set up the guild which people didn't have to join. They also didn't have to deposit anything into the bank. If he set it up then I feel he has the right to do what he wants with it. Although he probably should have told people he was moving.
But please let us know the outcome as I am rather intrigued by this.

So, it turns out the following logic applies:
A GL can boot whomever he wants in the guild, essentially for any reason. So, following that, the inherent act was not against Blizz EULA or ToS. Once the members were booted, it was perfectly fine for him to transfer servers with the guild and disappear. This does, in fact, decide the debate of whether or not a GL owns the guild. He/she does. End of story. Apparently even the guild transfer is so linked to his specific character that he doesn't transfer the guild- he merely transfers his GL toon to a new server and the guild magically follows him as part of his character. Very much like items or gold or whatnot.
Now, of course, just because it's legal doesn't make it right. I've made peace with it, honestly. Just is what it is and if it's his then it is. Just wish it wasn't quite that way.

Thanks for the update anyway.

I had a feeling his actions were legit by Blizzard standards. Definitely a D-bag move on his part. I guess if you wanted to get some sort of vengeance with him, you could always make a new toon on his server and tell his new guildies what he's capable of. He's done it once, what's to stop him from doing it again?

It is not Bannable but go ahead and clog the report button.
Have you asked others that were also in the guild about it? Did a bunch of people go with him?
