I thought to switch to DW tank just for the sake of it
I had two epic one handers, so why not
So I lost the 6 talent points for starters
I noticed I lost alot of health, but ok so far
My def rating was the next problem, it took me three def gems to get capped again
So tell me, wth would be the benefit of DW frost tanking? :|

... people have this obscene fascination with the concept of every possible scenario they can conceive of being viable in raids and get very upset when their naive notions of reality get turned upside-down.
I don't know about that. Why can't the mechanics of a game we pay to play serve our needs? I find myself railing against the cookie-cutter world on these forums with all too much frequency.
I just wanted to say that. Please don;t let this issue Hijack the thread.

the only REAL problem with DW tanking is the loss of rune strike damage.
TotT doesn't effect RS so it will hit only with your main hand weapon for a huge loss of threat
Even if ToT did effect RS, it would still be a stretch. The fact that it doesn't work on RS i think speaks pretty clearly that blizz does not want DK's to DW while tanking.

Yes, Dwield tanking offers more avoidance overall
but
you sacrifice so much in terms of hit chance that you have to sacrifice a large portion of the avoidance/stamina you'd gain from chants/gems just to make up that new-found miss chance. Not to mention Dwield tanking takes up 3 valuable
talent
points that could go elsewhere.
Long story short tanking is like digging a hole as deep as possible.
Dwield tanking is like digging a hole 5 times wider as deep as possible, you can do it but it's a hell of a lot more work for a similar result.

It is sad that DW doesn't work - I reckon you do look cool with 2 different weapons. Its like a rogue would look if they had plate and could keep threat.
It would be cool to bother with DW but sadly it does seem that its $%^&

i'm surprised no one in this thread has mentioned parry-gibb yet..
that's the main reason you don't DW as a tank.. been that way since the class was introduced.
in short, every time you are parried, your mob's swing timer is reset.. As a tank, the more often you're hit, the more damage you are taking.. that's not a new concept, but if you don't have a high hit rating and expertise, then you are getting parried twice as often (at LEAST) when you dual wield. How do you counteract the parry-gibb effect? biohazardd briefly mentioned it... you gem/enchant for hit and expertise.
well if you're gemming/enchanting for hit and expertise than you are obviously ignoring your tanking stats (stam and avoidance). yeah, you can get hit capped, and defense capped, and have some decent avoidance, but you will be missing a lot of health that a dk tank with a 2hander would have for not having to worry anywhere near as much about hit rating and expertise.

Dwield doesn't effect your expertise only your hit, unless of course you're say a human/dwarf/orc/troll and have a passive racial improving a certain type of weapon's skill, that would effect exp so you could be exp capped with say a sword but not an axe on a human DK. but generally speaking DW only effects your hit rating.

It really depends on the content you're doing. If you're doing ToC and 25 ulduar 2h tanking would most likely end up coming out ahead in terms of TPS, but if you're going back and doing farm content like Naxx, OS, or Maly, then go ahead as in there as the bosses hit like wet noodles on any relatively geared tank, and if you somehow manage to get parry-gibbed it most likely means that your melee and healers aren't paying attention at all.

Sigh - parry-gibbing is not a factor in Wotlk please stop stating it.
The main problem with DW is the significant threat loss one reason is DW does not allow Rune strike the 2nd reason is that it takes two hits to make up one 2h threat and with fast tanking weapons even more hits. With a higher chance to miss and the fact that you will have to change your gemming and enchanting to benefit defense over the benefit of stam stacking.
1. TPS will be much lower in DW than 2H.
2. Stamina will be lower, but avoidance will be higher due to gemming/enchanting/rune differences.

Dark, IMO, you don't need epidemic since you're using Howling Blast on every cooldown to refresh your FF. That's the only change that I'd make.

How can you say you gain 1% avoidance at the expense of 2% stamina by DW tanking? Yes, if you enchant both your weapons with 2% parry, you trade 1% miss 1% dodge and 1% parry for 4% parry, but consider that you cannot make up the 25 defence by DWing 2 tanking weapons, not even close, nor can they match the stamina on a 2 hander, so your going to pretty much end up replacing all your gems with stam/def at least to try and make all that up, gem slots which would likely otherwise be stacked with stamina. On top of all that you loose the 2% stamina as well. And after all that stamina you have lost to try and break even on defense your threat will go out the window from the increased chance to miss and lack of rune strike damage.
And on top of that, Ulduar bosses and current healing mechanics heavily favor high stamina tanking gear over avoidance.
There is absolutely no reason to DW tank with a death knight unless you want to do it regardless of what is optimal, in which case, it doesn't really matter what we say.
