Recommended for levels 12-20
Shadowfang Keep is a instance for 16+ Theirs a great storyline that goes with it. Quests for the keep are located in silverpine and in the Undercity.
Watch out for the Sons of Arugal. They are level 24 elites and wonder around in random parts. Great quests.
Pyrewood Village is located to the south and so is Shadowfang Keep. The greymane wall is also located south (As seen on the picture)
Fenris Isle has level 17-20 gnolls. On the other islands are murlocs and Lake Stalkers. Level 17-19
A very fun place to quest that goes with the storyline of the archmage Arugal.

shadowfang keep is NOT for 16+
what you're thinking of is wailing caverns
i would recommend sfk for people that are 24+
anywhere below 22 will get murdered in there.
anyways
silverpine forest is great for atleast one thing
herbalism
there are so many herbs here
ranges from silverleaf/peacebloom to briarthorn
this place is basically what gets u from skill 1-100
i do not recommend leveling to 20 here
barons has a lot more quests that help u level up a lot faster

Often overlooked because the Barrens is such a great place for Horde to quest during the 10-20 level range, Silverpine is a secluded region between the undead starting zone of Tirisfal Glades, and the Hillsbrad Foothills. The only truly noteable landmark here is the imposing Shadowfang Keep (lv 22-26),which is populated by a renegade archmage named Arugal and his host of Worgen. It's near the seashore in the southwest part of the zone. Shadowfang is known for having several extremely rare drop items that can be sold for very high prices on the auction house. The village of Pyrewood is just south of the keep. The npc's here are friendly to Alliance characters. However, it's said that at night, they transform into werewolves...

This area kind of wanes in comparison to the Barrens. But if you really want to get your UC rep up than this is the place to do it.

There is no FP for alliance in Silverpine Forest, but there is an NPC where you can vendor/repair from. He is located inside a blacksmith house (to the left of the main road) in Pyrewood Village. Saves some people time who want to repair or empty their bags quickly before another Shadowfang Keep run. The village turns into werewolves though, and the NPC is no longer there. I noticed the village turned into werewolves around 9pm server time. The time could be different every time. I observed it change only once.

Even though the NPCs are friendly to Alliance during the day, once they turn into Worgen at night, they are hostile mobs just like any other Worgen and attack any PC.

You might wonder about a certain something walking in here in the Southwest part of Silverpine Forest. There is a huge gate called the "
Greymane Wall"
, which before World of Warcraft, the humans locked themselves in this area during the Plague. There is known to be a city behind those gates but nobody knows about it. Nobody knows what happened to the people either...
I Eagle Eye'd on my hunter as best as I could and only saw Flat dead land with some trees. Then it just faded off.
Added: The next expansion, we're finally going to see what is behind that wall and what happened to the people of Gilneas. Leaks from
MMO-Champion
have confirmed that
Worgens
will become a New Race along with goblins, and they will seek help from the Alliance. Goblins will be the on the Horde side. The level cap will be 85, and players who choose the Worgen race will be able to switch between two forms of Human and Worgen form.

There are vendors in the Pyrewood Village which alliance can use during 'daylight' in the game world. These vendors can repair and they sell basic clothing like an average second city does like Goldshire, Kharanos, etc. There is no inn, none of the npcs have dialogue. Great for after the alt's corpse push to SFK for the first time. However on a PvP realm there is now the risk of somebody finding you more likely due to the fact the area is no longer elites.

If you are a Horde character trying to avoid the Barrens entirely, this is a nice zone to do it in. Unfortunately, there are not as many quests here, so once you hit 16, I recommend heading to Stonetalon Mountains, levelling to 18 there, and coming back. That way you can finish up the quests in Silverpine and head to Hillsbrad.

Silverpine Forest is a great area to level up in the level 10 to 20 region, but it's also incredibly important for
Undercity
Rep.
Between Shadowfang Keep and the zone itself, Silverpine contains 8699 Undercity Reputation. For those of you keeping track at home, that's almost exactly 20% of the total reputation you'll need to get from 1500 into neutral (the starting point for non-Forsaken, non-Belfs), all the way up to exalted.

The city (kingdom, I'd say) beyond the Greymane Wall is Gilneas. Once a member of Alliance, and a very powefull one. By the time of WC3, Gilneas left Alliance, being sure to coupe with Scourge problem themselves, thus breaking any and all of the connections with Allies. No distinct info is given on what has happened there since then, but it's highly possible, that Blizz will implement this zone in WotLK. Will it be neutral or Ally friendly is still unclear.

Just like The Barrens and The Ghostlands, Silverpine Forest is a questing zone for levels 10-20. Keep in mind that Silverpine is much less populated than Barrens or Ghostlands so if you want a more secluded questing experience then definitely come here.

Nobody knows what happened to the city of Gilneas, in WoWiki, a rumor is there saying that Naga have took it over that Brann Bronzebeard has heard from the Kul'Tiras sailors. but so far now, nobody has gotten in but those who did the wall jump into it said there was untextured plains and dead trees but no city so, nobody knows whats coming soon...
Now introduced in Blizzcon: Cataclysm! Worgen has been formed inside Gilneas and the wall has been broken from Deathwing awakening. now the Worgen has joined the alliance.

In Warcraft II Gilneas is a Human nation that does not join the Alliance of Lorderan that included the kingdoms of Kul' Tiras, Stromgarde, Alterac ( the betrayers ), the remnents of the main Azeroth kingdom, Dalaran, and several others. However Gilneas was not supposed to be friend to the horde saying they would meet the horde blade for blade. I dont remeber WC3 involving Gilneas at all or far into the WC3 FT campaigns i didnt hear anything. So it will be interesting too see what they put there.

Gilneas
did
eventually join the alliance in the second war... However, they left almost as soon as the Horde had been defeated. Apparently rather than face the undead Scourge, Genn Greymane walled in his nation. When they do open the area, I imagine that there will be Gilneas humans there, neutral (with reputation building quests, of course) to the alliance, but implacably hostile to the Horde.

Meh. Azmodaan.
Anyways, the way over the Greymane Wall, which I found a couple months ago, is actually quite simple. If you look at the west side of the wall, there's a chip in it where the rampart has crumbled. Jump into that chip from the mountainside. Now you're on the Greymane Wall, and from here the rest should be easy.
But be warned... once you get in, there's no way out.

There is a forge in that cursed village below Shadowfang: Pyrewood?
Be warned - by day the towns' folk are human (green to alliance), but BY NIGHT - they turn into were-wolf vulpine humaniods - 13-15 elites (red)!
Lot's of Horde come here I think and it's contested -not sure how it works but be careful even if you are on a RP server. Hell fun and spooky. I got jumped by a hunter who's arse is now hanging on my wall=)
PS - the Greyman? wall has ONE VENDOR by the gate - a blind arnourer fellow with lots of good weapons for low seasons ~10-15?
Buggered if I know how a low season could ever get there safely without a watchful and kindly escort!

its not even worth the time finding your way up, but i'll be sure to post a tutorial on how to later...

Here's how I got over it, but it required my epic mount.
Facing the gate, go left until you see the part of the wall that has a large part broken away. Then, you have to ride up the mountain-side just next to it (on the right), mount up, and jump onto the ledge of the wall. From there, move left and jump onto the wall itself, and then continue through. Getting further requires corner-jumping. You'll learn what that is eventually, if you haven't already.
To get out, use the same technique, from step 1, on the left side of the gate (when facing it from INSIDE) and corner-jump yourself back over the wall.
I just finished reading posts about where to jump over, and how it was impossible to get back once you were in, and I just successfully got in and out, no porting or hearthing needed.

1. On the west (right) side of the wall there will be a large tree that hugs the wall. Between the tree and the wall keep jumping and tapping forward (no mount) until you reach a ledge in the wall. Run to the leftmost part of this ledge and through the crack to be ontop of the greymane wall.
2. On the east and southmost part of this platform jump diagonally (left and forward) so as to clear the gap. You should land next to a cornerpart of the greymane wall.
3. From this corner, Walk across the ledge that will be on your left and then jump as far forward as possible. Then itch your way up between the wall and the hill by jumping and tapping forward.
4. OMG!
(NB: You can get back out the same way using your mount to clear the gap back onto the ledge)

If your heading from UnderCity (and heading South) on the main road, then Sepulcher will be the first road on the right after crossing the brige.
Also important to note as you make your way up the hill on this side road, there is a flight master on your left. For many Undead, this will be your first flight path. It links you back to UC.

I did this instance solo on Garona with a lvl 28 Rogue NightElf. I was jealous of the horde for this instance, to say the least. It's a great layout. I made it to the courtyard just after getting the prisoner to open the locked door. I decided not to venture further, ofr fear of the elite mobs.
I did however return at the same lvl, with a lvl 26 druid (for healing and tanking). We ventured all the way through the courtyard, and slaughtered everything we got our hands on all the way to the winding staircase. At that point it was 3:30am, because we started the instance at 2 (Not realizing what time it was). I would reccomend all players doing this instance, because it's sporadic, and amazing. Good drops, and an unpredictable layout.

I ran through once as a tag-along behind a friend and his 60 guild friend. It was so fast, all I could do was hurry behind picking up loot.
Went back to solo with my 33 Orc hunter and raptor pet. Pet control here is a must! Made it through rooms to right of entrance, through courtyard. In courtyard I got "haunted" by one of the undead I killed. After that, until the haunting wore off, everything I killed spawned a ghost or banshee right away. After the courtyard I fought my way up the spiral stairs, through a couple of rooms, and ran into something that stopped me cold - WIFE! LOL, I'll be back!

The mobs here are level 18+ to at least 20+. At first there are 18+ and 19+ worgs and wolfmen (can't remember exact names). You will see a portcullis ahead of you that you can't go through (but mobs can agro through) and a doorway to your right with a wolf man and his worg. Remember, these are + mobs so they are more difficult then the level indicates. To the right leads into a larger room with the two mobs mentioned, plus there are two more worgs and two or three more worlf men. You can pull the two I first spoke of by themselves, the others might be a little more difficult to pull alone. At the end of this room, there is a stair that leads up to the left, over the top of the portcullis (you can't see the portcullis, but you are over it). There's a door at the end which is locked, and another doorway to the left. You have to clear out the mobs to the left, two wolf men and a worg on the top level (I believe), then a wolf man, two worgs and a level 20+ named mob down below. On the bottom level there is a mage of some sort locked in a cell, and an undead guard in another cell. Free the undead guard and talk to him, he will open the locked door above the portcullis. This door leads into the courtyard, which is filled with several wolf men, worgs and now haunted ghost things. All are about 18+ to 20+. Also, random banshee-like women will spawn, level 22 but they go down very fast if you target them (and they do a lot of damage, so kill them first). They will literally spawn randomly right on top of you, so be careful. At the end of the courtyard there is a staircase leading up...and that's where my party died. I was a level 19 warlock, we had a level 17 rogue, a 16 priest and a 16 mage, all undead. With a full group (say a warrior) we probably could have gone much farther, maybe gone to the end. Without my pet, my soulstones and my healthstones, and without a priest, we could not have done it, so make sure to have a varied party that can hold agro from 3 mobs of this caliber and not get slaughtered. Or just be level 30 :-)

Shadowfang keep was the only instanced dungeon I was able to try during the stress test. I got to try it 3 times with 3 differenct parties at lvl 18, 19 and 21 if I remember right and it was a blast!
I'll pick it up where parslip left off. I appologize in that I can't remember the exact layout of the keep major. I can, however talk about various mobs you fight.
Right after there part where parslip died you'll start to wind up and around the keep major. Along with wolf men who are largely immune to just about all magic except fire, you'll also start to run into these knights that cast silience (especially annoying for casters). The knights are not all that tough but because they cast silience they pose a big threat because healers can't heal and nukers can't nuke. You'll run through a series of rooms that contain these types of mobs and slowly work your way toward a tower.
The next types of mobs that were different were the bats. I can't remember if they had any special attacks but they were tough and we wiped to them (thank god for soulstones).
We evenually came to a laboratory with a huge freakn' wolf (can't remember his name). He wasn't too terribly tough but after we killed him he spawned about 4 or 5 void walkers that attack the party. We managed to kill them. This room, btw, is where you get the book (ra or ru or something) for one of the undead quests. It's on a bookshelf in this room. Let me take a sec to mention how much I love the interactive aspect of wow. There, I'm done now. :)
Finally we kept winding our way toward the last tower (with Argul I think his name). Before we fought him though we had to go through a mini boss that could summon wolf after wolf to attack the party. We wiped to him but after we rezzed we tried him again and consintrated all of our firepower on him and ignored the dogs. It work and we just had Argul and his guards to deal with now.
Let me say first off that were were unable to defeat Argul. He was lvl 27 and the avg of the group was probably about 23 (we had 1 lvl 26 shaman). Argul was an awesome fight and put to rest any notions I had that WoW was going to be too easy of a game.
Argul was a lvl 27 wiz/nuker type. He hit hard, cast hard, could turn you pets into his minions for for a few seconds and could blink around the room. Blink was the main killer because of how they designed the room. It was a series of ledges with the main floor being down below. You would engage Argul and he would fight for a few seconds then blink to another ledge and nuke you from there. It wasn't even close to tell you the truth. He ate us from breakfast. I think you should probably be 25+ for the encounter and have a good strategy. We tried him 2 or 3 times and we didn't get close so we gave up. It was a blast though!

The guy in fenris keep can be soloed by a lvl 29/30 player. However as a warrior i suggest this strategy. Clear out the bottom floor of the keep (not the basement). And slowly pull everything around the elite in the throne room. then rush in and kill one of the two minions around the elite. When he is dead, immediately run away.
Recharge.
Go back and kill the other minion. By this time some of the people on the lower level are re-popping, so you will have to kill them.
Kill the other minion and then run away to recharge.
When the elite was by himself, I felt i had enough dps to kill him.
I did try an all out assault that lead to my death, so i figured this piecemeal approach to be far more effective.

I came searching here after realizing that I still hadn't been here after doing absolutely everything in Silverpine. There are no quests, at least on the Horde side, that take place here. I'm assuming there are also none for Alliance? This seems like a completely pointless area to me.
Large house? I found no large house. There's a small house and a barn, neither of which contain anything other than Ravenclaw Slaves and Raiders. I found no chest.
However, there is a path that leads north from near the barn, and there's an enchanting supplies vendor there who sells a couple of enchanting recipes. Mostly low stuff, like +20 mana to chest.

Completed a quest here that had me looking for some named guy walking around. It was actually fairly easy at level 17 but the Mob's (refugees and sickly) run fast at 15% health. They run in random directions so be careful.
The named was level 21. You can pull down into the valley and nt have to worry too much about the aggro from the wolves and such walking around.
Stay away from the named on the horse. He spawned to the left of the gate and completely heals himself many times. My pet and I almost had him down a few times and he would heal himself and force us to run for cover.
Some of the refugees are level 20 and are a tough fight. I felt they were tougher then the named I had to kill. Sorry for the lack of names but it was late yesterday afternoon when I completed the quest and can't remember.

OMG! Rarely are there understandable directions given here. The Skittering Dark (after an hour of searching) was found on the west coast of the Eastern Kindoms continent and northwest from the Sepulcher. It's just a little ways northeast from a ship wreck that is on the coast. Lots of giant grizzled bears and moss stalker spiders. Lots of bear hearts and skittering blood needed for one of the "A recipe for death" quests.
I hope that helps.

Additionally there is a mine of spiders for a later quest. The named is a level 15 elite so be careful.
