These are the mobs you have to fight in the final room before Skyriss. They have two key abilties.
Meteor - the meteor ability which has a base damage of 10k. It is split among the number of people it hits just like the mobs in Ahn'Qiraj. It is a good idea to have someone move into melee range with the tank right before you see the mob cast Meteor.
Fire Shield - the shield does an average of ~550 a tick to people within melee range of the mob. This prevents the entire party from standing by the boss to split Meteor 5 ways.

These mobs are extremely easy with the following strategy: Have the tank stand still and tank him (along with any melee) and have all the ranged back out once the meteor has landed, this gives you about 7 seconds of no AoE eating your face. Just remember to move in, move out: ez-mode.

These aren't so hard as long as all group members get hit by the meteor, so the damage is split. Unless meteor is being casted, you all need to stand out from the fire AOE aura, which is about 7 or 8 yards.

The fire shield AOE is a pain for casters when everyone is right on top of each other right in front of the mob.Running in and out works, but it is also possible for the healer/casters to stand just outside of range of the AOE fire shield and still be close enough to the tanks and melee dps for the Meteor effect to be spread across all members of the party.

so is there only ever 2 of these per instance? cause if so it is going to make it very difficult to get that armor kit.

Trying to move in and out only caused wipes. The mob doesn't target who the meteor is going towards while casting it, and doesn't always target the tank.

Please confirm whether the Fire Shield can be purged, dispelled or stolen.
Last time there i told the shaman to purge it and i think no one took any Fire Shield damage, but i'm not sure because i was kinda tired :P

Have they changed anything in the new patch? these seem harder to kill and the meteor thing gets us everytime. Every damn time, for the last 5 runs ive been, we cant seem to get past these.

The meteor seems to be an area-targetted spell as opposed to one that follows a player. It is possible to move out of the way of the incoming meteor the moment you see it casting and not have it hit anyone, though such an occurence is unlikely unless you have a lot of ranged DPS.
We tried this when we had two hunters in the group, both standing together about 20 yards away from the rest of the group. When the mob began casting meteor, they immediately ran to the other side (not into the melee group) and the meteor simply fell on empty space.
I can't really say I know the mechanics of the tactic. I assume that the meteor is targetted on the 2nd highest on the threat meter, but we might have gotten lucky when a single meteor was never targetted on the melee. Anyone else who has tried this should share their experience.

The easiest way with an uncoordinated pug is just to all stack in one spot and hope to out dps the aura.

Strategy for those who like to eat meteors instead of taking the chance of avoiding them:
(Especially in Heroic mode): Having the entire party group up together at the Gargantuan Abyssal WILL cause a tremendous need of healing power and most likely wipe your group. The meteor and fire shield inflicts damage unhealable for most epic geared healers.
The best way to solve this is to split the group evenly up into 2 groups, ranged and melee.
We successfully downed one with our priest, mage and hunter standing together. Since this group was generally low on stamina, it was very important to not expose them to too much burst damage. Having 3 of them placed together significantly reduced the burst damage from the meteor and allowed them to easily survive with about 60% HP after impact.
The second group consisted of a tank and a shaman. Both had enough HP to be burst-safe and eventually the mob went down.
I don't recommend alternative tactics such as trying to split up after the meteor impact and join at the base of the Gargantuan Abyssal before another one strikes and then split again. That tactic won't work since your healer will have to move a lot (it'll be a pain in the butt) and the meteor strikes a bit too often. You can try it, but I prefer the method posted above.
This fight is a lot about healing power and high DPS so it's important that the casters get their time to use cast-time spells. In other
words, casters should not at any time stand in the Fire Shield aura.
Warriors should ALWAYS use thunderclap and demoshout to mitigate the physical damage the Gargantuan Abyssal deals.
Casters and melee (except tank) may want to use Dampen Magic to reduce Meteor and Fire Shield damage.
And no, the fire shield CANNOT be purged. Good luck!

Anyone know if a Hunter's Snake Trap works to absorb damage? That'd be alot more targets for it to hit..

In *REGULAR* mode :: Your best option is to get some fire resistance (FR) - either from a healadin or a Tankadin. Stack all players on top of each other - literally on top of each other - and DPS the demon down. Do not move during the fight, as this will increase your chances of being hit by the meteor. If your healer cannot heal through it, you should try the heroic strategy and it may make things easier.
In *HEROIC* mode :: After wiping two times using the above method, I read the comments here and we were able to do it no problem. We had 4 casters (2 mages, a holy priest, and a warlock).and myself tanking. I tanked the demon a few yards offset from the rest of the group, with the demon's back towards the group. This enables a faster run back to the group when he begins to cast meteor.
When the mob begins to cast meteor, the tank should run toward the group. When the meteor lands, run back and repeat until it's dead. This worked perfectly for us; our healer kept everybody above 80% no problem, except me but i never dipped below 55% =) Thanks stanzito!
---> If you have melee DPS, such as a feral druid or furry warrior (not a typo), they should stay ranged and either off-heal or shoot, depending on the class. Hunters should keep their pet tucked away.
*Also:
I like the alternate strategy of having somebody run to the tank, making it two on demon and three off demon. This job should go to the player with the most health and/or fastest run-speed. However, this still makes for a large amount of damage for either group. Lets say *FOR EXAMPLE ONLY* that the meteor does 6,000 damage spread across everybody in the affected area. If you have all five players on top of each other, that's 1,200 damage per player. You also take about 700-1000 damage from the fire shield, and your tank gets whacked on a little by a HUGE demon.
Now if you use the three-two setup posted by some of the players above me, the three-player group takes 2k damage each meteor and then the two player group sits through about 2k worth of fire shield and even more with mob hits - with a healer whose spells were slowed by the hit. Much harder to heal through. If the two-player group gets nailed, they take 3k from the meteor and another 2k from the shield, plus mob hits...good luck keeping them up.
If your tank doesn't get back in time using my strat, they will take a crapload of damage, but it is healable with a good healer. couple HoTs and a flash or two and you may have lost 3-5k from when it all started. Healer *SHOULD* have you back up in no time. I never failed to make it back though, so I can't tell ya :)
If your group doesn't mind, it may be a good idea to test the range of the fire shield & whether it can be spell stolen or otherwise removed (heroic/non-heroic) Use markings on the ground to give your group a specific spot to stand in and see how close you can get - make the run easy on the tank. Post a few screenies with your findings, and post a comment with details on your strategy used and whether it was heroic or not. In our heroic run - we used the horizontal tears in the carpet for our casters and i tanked around the center of one of the diamonds in the floor pattern.
These mobs are by far the hardest in the instance, but with a little strategy, nothing is unbeatable.

They have a melee range fire damage aura, so I found it works best to have your tank pull them about 5 yards infront of everyone else standing on top of eachother. Once he starts casting meteor run back on top of your party until the meteor hits then immediately pull the mob away again. This way saves your casters (and healer) from being hit with the constant fire aura, and they wont lose any casting time.

I was in a dps weak group.. and just wasn't enough dps to down him.. I was on my hunter... what I'd do is just wait till he blasted us once then stood away and ranged him till I saw him cast the aoe spell.. which is a long ass cast.. plenty long enough to run back in for the hit. Worked perfect too.

Those tips worked great-We didn't have the best group- 2 warriors prot/arms, we had two BM hunters, and a shadow priest for heals. We made it thru the rest of the instance without difficulty... but, the first time we tried this mob we wiped hard. We applied the "stand on top of each other away from the AOE" technique and although we still lost quite a bit of life, none of us died including both of the hunter pets, also our shadow priest was able to do all the healing, without going OOM. So, if you find this mob hard, this is definitely worth a try.

The meteor strike hits single targets for 12000 fire damage but if it hits the entire party it's distributed evenly among you, so only 2400 damage each. Just clump the party together and the fight will become much easier.

These demons are specified as stronger elites, thus can't be enslaved.
