These mobs will generate a 75% resistance buff of they spell they first hit with. I suggest hitting them with your weakest class of spell first.. makes them cake.
Really tough for a paladin since their spells are all holy-based.
Warlocks (not destro), Hit them with a soul fire then dot away :)
I found them pretty annoying as a shadowpriest. My advice for other shadowpriests: just leave shadowform when fighting Vacillating Voidcaller, hit them with Holy Fire first, then use Shadow Word: Pain and finish them easily.
Don't try to beat them with one kind of magic. It's a waste of time and mana.
If you want to farm Mote of Shadow, better go to Nagrand and kill Voidspawns. I think it's faster.
If you're a mage the elemental wards make these guys a breeze. Just use the shield for the spec you're not, and cast that ball/bolt first.
For example, cast order for a frost mage:
You'll take almost no damage fighting them.
Even better advice for a mage, if you're spec'd Fire or Frost, at least. Start casting Arcane Missiles, and immediately stop before the attack actually begins. They'll gain the arcane resistance buff, and won't even aggro! So you're free to blast away at 'em with Fireball or Frostbolt :)
Something rather interesting... I've hit them with a arcane wand first and they started casting Shadow Bolt on me.
These guys are massively resistant to shadow damage. Warlocks and shadow priests look out!
Edit: Not quite. Instead, they develop a 75% damage resistance to the first kind of spell damage used against them. Shadow priests: pull with holy fire, then switch to shadowform and finish them off (or just stay out of shadowform, they don't have a lot of hit points anyways). Other spellcasters, use a spell energy you don't use very often to pull, then switch to put the hurt on them.
fyi they also attack you with whatever type of spell damage you do. i.e. nature damage makes it use lightning bolt while arcane damage makes it use arcane missles
i got 2 primal shadows of these guys in like 20 mins
this guys are really a danger, they are 100% immun to shadow
the weir thing is that they are deamons, but they cast holybolt, ok?
but anyways, they drop mote of shadow wery often, had 2 primals in 1 hr, became 200g richer :P
they are not immune to my shadow bolt and my shadow wand
WARNING ALL MAGES!
I am a 60 firemage, and I can do this quest just fine, except that every time I did a pyroblast on them, it did normal damage but when I did fireballs, blast waves, dragons breath and fire blasts, they did HORRIBLE damage.
I decided to thotbott this mob, and when I read the edit of the first comment above, I decided to test it.
Ther first time I tested it, I did a frostbolt on the mob, and he started using frostbolts on me! Also, my fire damage started doing usual damage instead of less.
For my second test, I did arcane missiles. Like last time, my fire damage went back to usual instead of being super low. Also, the guy started using arcane missiles on me.
My last test, I went back to my first hit doing fire damage. Then, he used fireballs, and my fire damage went
Obviously, as you see, the first type of damage you do is what they do to you, and also what they become highly resistant too. However, this gives you options: say you are a fire mage like me. You may choose to cast frostbolts
so that the attacks he does do less damage. Or, you may choose to use arcane missiles so that you don't get that movement debuff from frostbolt. Or if you are not a fire mage, you may choose to do fire attacks at first. It all depends on your opinion. (Personally, I like frostbolt.)
: Just in case you wanted to know, if you don't use any magic on them, their default spell is shadow bolt, though I do not know if their default resistance is shadow.
: Also, I do not know this for sure, but maybe if a hunter uses arcane shot on these guys, the mob may start using arcane missiles, and maybe ill become highly resistant to arcane. Or, maybe if you have a fiery weapon, and attack him with it, it may cause him to cast fireballs at him, and become highly resistant to fire. Again, I do not know this for sure, but it could be true.
Ye once u cast a spell on them they become resistant to that spell type so jsut use Ice lance or Rank 1 frostbolt then do fire stuff
ANY type of spell damage will activate their similar damage. For the love of god engineers dont throw bombs at them. It will activate their fire damage moves. I am currently trying to make them extinct. Its rather easy for me to kill them, my warrior doesnt seem to have much trouble with the mobs here, only lvl 62 and their fodder for me unless i throw a bomb at them, then it causes trouble. Good luck and God speed.
just a note - as a lock i open with immolate and after that all my shadowbolts seem to crit even without wearing any significant crit gear
so, immo then 2-3 shadowbolts max. this is at level 61, so yeah no problem farming these guys at all just be careful about this special ability of theirs. remember that your VW does shadow damage and that can potentially screw you.
another note, had an arcane and nature wand on me, neither procced their ability (they remained as shadow)
Really easy if you make sure you don't agro a bunch of mobs. If you usually use shadow spells, I suggest you attack the collapsing ones, but if you agro the other voidcallers, it's not the end of the world.
Also, watch out for your health because the collapsing ones have an attack when they die that does a significant amount of damage.
these are easy, im a lv fire mage, and all u have to do is hit them first with a spell opposite to what u r most powerful, so for me, i hit them with an icebolt, they then become weak to fire... easy :)
Blood elf paladins whose damage is entirely Holy can open with Mana Tap, which counts as an Arcane spell.
This mob is resistant and will attack you with whatever school of magic you start with.
Shadow Priests, open with Holy.
Fire Mages open with Frost
Locks open with Fire.
etc, etc, etc.
They go down fast.
Maybe it is my server, but on Alleria these seem to be elites. They are not marked as elites, and give normal mob xp, but they are 3 times as difficult as the similar level voidwalkers in the area. Avoid unless you like challenge without reward.
Yes, these seem to hit ALOT harder.60 BM hunter, and my pet is clsoe to dead after killing one of these. It seems that after you hit them with a certain spell, they start casting that type of spell. I found that Arcane Missles tended to hurt my pet less (30 resistances on all) so i hit it with an arcane shot first.
These guys don't cast a buff against an axe!
They fall just fine, but I can't seem to get them to drop motes of shadow for my Planar Axe
Just to give all the casters a heads up.
What ever spell you hit these guys with first, they will give them selfs a buff that any spell of that damage type will do 75% less damage to them.
All the voidwalkers in this area are much more powerful than other mobs of their level. These particular ones hit VERY hard on my felguard, and absorb 75% of damage for the spell type (eg fire, shadow) of your first cast spell, so for warlocks I suggest you cast immolate first or searing pain if you think your pet can hold the aggro.
is a quest related mob, you need to kill it and loot
Follow the east direction from Spinebreaker Post. You should see the mountains east of Zeth'Gor. There is the edge of peninsula east of them.
There are mobs within the area you can loot
- drop chance is 100%, just the number of shards varies.

quest video -
PSA: they apply a damage reduction buff depending on the elemental spell type they are first struck with.
For example; as a fire warlock, I cast shadaowbolt to open- the first hit lands for 100% shadow damage, it applies the shadow reduction buff
I follow up with immolate, incinerate which also hit for 100%
