Spawned in Scholomance as part of the Dungeon Set 2 questline.
Kormok is a two-headed ogre necromancer.
Bone Armor: Absorbs damage. Deals 100 damage to physical attackers and 100 damage to spell casters. Magic effect, can be dispelled. Unknown whether it can be spellstolen. Applied before encounter begins, periodically reapplied.
He periodically summons groups of three undead adds. There are two types - melee types with about 1500 health, and elite mage-types with about 5000 health that cast Frostbolt.
Kormok himself casts Shadow Bolt and melees. He is immune to all CC and movement imparing effects.
He is leashed halfway into Gandling's room, and therefore it is impossible to use the terrain in that room to kite him. It is, however, possible to kite him using the terrace in the Viewing Room.
bone sheild that absorbs all damage
and hes a giant orge that hits madd hard
either this guy has to be nurfed or blizz is smokin somethin if they think regular blue-geared peoples can do this
Doing this guy with two pallies spamming consecrate with righteous fury for the adds, a rogue, mage, and priest we got him to two percent... so close, yet so far... Dispelling his bone shield helps a lot, it will chew up a rogue in no time if left up as it does about 100-200 damage whenever you hit him, and I'm a slice and dice/blade flurry spec rogue =/
We killed him :D but hard...
Not the big drop when you think of the deficulty, at boss...
He dropped ... and lock got em
Ignore the adds. If you kill them with AoE they'll respawn in no time so it's just a waste of mana. Use mages to freeze the adds to the ground and keep the heat on the boss.
yeah we killed em, but he was a bastard. we have a few epiced out people running it with us as am i most epic. we wipped once cause we didn't know what to expect next time he was ours!
We killed him tonight after many tries.
The key is to do Max DPS almost from the start.
Priest shields himself and warrior before fight, drinks to full.
Then warrior charges, keep everyone close to boss.
Priest first Dispels Bone Shield
Then Priest should be using dots, Holy Fire, Holy Nova and Smite until tank has gets under 50% then switch to holy nova, Prayer of healing. etc.
Warrior should be drinking pot and using healhstone first to stay alive, once Priest heals, priest will get a ton of aggro from adds. you want all 5 doing
as much DPS as possible from the start. So heal yourself tanks with anything you have to allow priest to DPS
Use anything that gives you or your party extra damage, like pots and wizard oils.
You should have no trouble if you do all this.
Fight him as you would the panther boss in ZG.
All DPS on boss.
NO AoE. This will draw the adds to the casters and get them killed.
As adds appear, have a pallie or warr round up the adds. Keep them close to boss. Its fine for pallies to use AoE on adds, Works very well, and they dont hit hard so you can take many of them, no prob.
All dps on boss.
When you get around 10 adds. Bring them to boss, and AoE them down. They go down fast. Keep in mind that if you have 10 adds, 50 seconds or so have passed. the boss should be down to at least half to a third health.
All dps back on boss.
Have off tank round up adds as dps drops the boss.
When boss is down, aoe adds.
If you have to kill the adds more than once befor the boss is dead, you suck and are not doing enough Dps.
When off tank is not rounding up adds, get them to attack boss too. This really helped.
This guys bone shield is a joke. Any decent dps class will have it down very fast. He is soft and gets hurt quick, so the battle should not last long.
Only other advice, is to have the casters stand close to whoever will tank adds. Makes it very easy to group them all up and control them.
Beat him on 2nd attempt with.
2, 60 Pallies
Did it with the following group:
60 Druid (feral spec, using cat form)
Warrior tanked, druid and rogue DPS'd boss, Mage AOE'd, and Priest healed.
Used warrior, mage, priest, lock and pally.
We summoned him right down by the alter and the warrior tanked him there. The pally stayed at just under 30yrds from the warrior and cast blessing of sacrifice on the warrior.
The priest put a couple of dots on then moved out of the door of Ras's chamber (so as not to get any aggro)and healed the pally who was wearing all the damage. The adds only hit for around 40 so the warrior was barely even hurt as BoS transfers 55 to the pally per hit.
We got him to around 20% before the mage and lock drew any aggro. The mage frost nova'd the adds and the boss was dead before they got free. The trick was having the healer almost 60yrds from the adds,
We don't have paladins. Anyone w/ a Horde version and do the adds do mega dmg or what?
We got him on our 4th try,
All were full dps on boss, shamans shock whenever possible.
Beside that, the two shaman were opposite eachother with earthbind totems between them.. one would heal, draw agro.. the adds running to shaman#1.. the other heals, drawing agro, adds going for shaman#2.. keep it going as long as possible.
It's a quick, dirty fight, so put on all the damage gear you can (if yer a shammy on healing duty, put on your highest sta/ac kit tho).
i'm priest with 6/8 tier 0.5 set
i went with:
NOT EPIC PLAYER
we kill Kormok at first time, we do MAX dps on boss and ignore adds, very very easy
For all of you who agree that this boss is way to hard for the average bluegeared players to do, there is a post on blizzards suggestions forum. Just look for the player name Malcite (only one post) and say your oppinion there. the more that agree and sign up there the more likely is it that they change his difficulity rating.
As for me, i totally agree. I did the optional boss in lbrs (the druid in Warmaster Voones chamber) and he was a breeze. didnt even need healer on him and i a 60 paladin (not holy at that time) did what little of healing that was needed.
I tried this with a few PUGS, no luck. I finally got together the most random guild group to do the A Light in Dark Places quest, and stopped by him afterward since we were right there.
My group consisted of:
Hunter - epic gear
Beat him on the first try with people who didn't even know what the encounter was sans my description, which is pretty good.
I honestly can't say what happened during the fight because I was too busy healing for most of it, but the gist of it was that we all did max DPS on the boss. There was absolutely no CC. The warlock, rogue, warrior, and hunter (including his boar pet) were all on Kormok.
Before fighting, remind your groupmates to take off their AD trinkets and put on whtever they normally use.
Also make sure everyone has used any food and potions with bonus effects before fighting.
If you're doing this with any sort of organization (versus a PUG), if you don't want to bring a warlock with you and would prefer a different high damage class, have your healer exit the instance and get SS from a warlock guildie or friend.
Also, before going in, buy each of your groupmates a Limited Invulnerability Potion. This is INVALUABLE because it allows every member to continue what they were doing - casters can cast, healer can heal, and people aren't dying instantly with massive adds on them. As a healadin, I didn't have to worry as much about healing the entire group at once because everyone had 6 extra seconds at some point to fight (since the only real magic damage comes from Kormok's shadow attack and the bone mages). Also, against like 20-30 adds, a single major health potion is just useless. Your odds of not being stunned, surviving, and possibly doing something to help a group member is way better with the invulnerability.
We were also able to use the Burning Blossom on the bonfire in the Viewing Room as part of the Summer Festival for an extra increase in power.
Have your MT use max offense instead of sword and board. As I told my group, the point is to kick as much butt in as short a time as possible.
We started out with the warlock, hunter and I way back, and the fighters up front. I did Flash of Light on whoever needed it, and then the adds spawned shortly after.
I actually died about 10-20 seconds in because I didn't shield myself fast enough, however, thanks to the warlock's soul stone I was able to jump right back in with high health and mana, and no one died on me during that time, hence why I STRONGLY recommend the SS.
Toward the end we lost the rogue and warlock, and I thought that we had lost since I hadn't looked at Kormok's health once, but someone said "almost there" and then Kormok died a moment later. The fight probably took between 30 seconds to 1 minute. I didn't get to use my pally shields on myself or anyone else.
Unfortunately the adds stunned and killed us before anyone could loot, but we ran back, jumped off the bridge, and ran down with plenty of time to loot and get the ring.
If you get the credit to kill Kormok, but the body despawns, you can find anyone else who has finished the tier quest and have them spawn ANY of the other three bosses (since anyone who has completed the tier quest can do this with their brazier), and they will drop the part of the amulet you need even though it's not Kormok. On 6/24/06 while I write this, it still holds anyway.
Good luck to all with this awful quest, I hope this helps!
..But easy once u get the strat down..
heres the group ive done iot with(downed him two times):
with that group its pretty much everyone runs in and AoE's to hell while the warrior tanks kormok...the mages do arcane explosion/blizzard/frost nova, the warlock does hellfire/rain of fire and the priest does holy nova...this way is a bit hard but works...
the second time i went it was with a group that consisted of:
In this one what we did was get the warrior to tank kormok, we waited for a couple of sunders, i sent my felhunter in to dispell the shield thing he has( which btw you should do on the first strat too cause 1 it heals the felhunter and two the shield will NEVER go up if its on auto-cast...the cooldown and the time it takes for him to recast the spell are about the same)
we ignored the adds up untill there were just too many then the mage frost novaed and started to AOE some and the tank pulled kormok to the AoE so the mage could continue his DPS and this happened around 30-20%..
and just to let you all know...our mage was in pretty much all blue and some .5 gear...our tank was in all blue mayb a cpl greens and i think the tier 1 bracers, i had(the warlock) all blues and mayb 5-6 epics(some felheart and some deathmist)
and our priest was the worst geared..he was mostly greens and some blues..and the hunter from the 2nd attempt was in pretty much blues adnd the first mage from the first attempt was pretty much in all blues some scattered greens...so what im sayin here is that you dont have to be all epiced out to do this...you justn eed to practice the encounter..we wiped mayb 15 times on this guy b4 we got it right so just keep trying!
Just had mage freeze adds, priest dispell bone shield on Kormok, and NUKE him! The adds are what will get ya, he falls like a slice of pie.
Just finished it. Had a priest, shaman, warlock, rogue and warrior.
We didn't heal or aoe once....just nuked the crap out of him and let the skeletons kill us. Ran back to find a nice caster ring.
Had a Mage, warlock, warrior, Shaman and Priest.
We wiped before we realized not to waste DPS on the adds. Once you get this through you're head, you're ok.
I (priest) dispelled the shield and healed tank, while everyone else nuked Kormok. Occassional warstomps and frost novas were enough to keep the adds off of me long enough to keep Tank alive. Once the adds did come my way, I faded, shielded and hit a holy nova off before dying. Shammy took over healing, but by then Kormok was almost down.
There is a way to do this boss that involves a simple kiting to the Ravien room (room to hte right walking down the stairs in last room of the instance).
What you do is have everyone go stand in that water in Ravien's room except the warrior, he stands somewhere on the floor where the healer and everyone else is in range. Then, you get a mage or hunter to kite Kormok to that room. The reason for a mage or hunter to do it because they are the best kiter's with turning around and hitting hte mob real fast because Kormok has a returning point. So the mage or hunter continues kiting Kormok to the room everyone else is in and the Warrior pulls aggro off the mage or hunter with Taunt on Kormok then the mage or hunter hops on the water. After the first heal, all the spawns will get bugged out and stand evading. Everyone does slow DPS to kill Kormok with out pulling aggro. Eventually, Kormok will summon the Mages, which should not be evading, but attacking you, you can shift all your DPS to those mages and kill them real fast. Once Kormok is dead, have the mage run out and frost nova as the priest comes out of hte water with all of his aggro and just AoE them down or let them kill you and res and get your PHAT loot from this boss.
Worked for my group. Priest(me),mage, warlock, warrior, and shaman. Very few epic pieces at all. This Strategy is very similar to the Broodlord boss in ZG.
2x 60 warrior
1x 60 priest
1x 52 rogue
1x 53 mage
All dps on boss until he's down.. ignoring the adds totally and die by them afterwards ^^
first try. .
druid tanked, warrior and pally dps'd. the mage dps'd because the skeleton adds stayed by the druid, and the priest kept us alive and cast dispell on the ogre's bone buff.
fight lasted less than 1 minute. after ogre died, we had to finish off the skeletons (not very many).
very easy. all of us were 60.
Can someone please tell me where the quest line starts?
any reputation (Argent Dawn) for this guy ?
The quest listed on this guy says Horde only...?
The fight is very difficult it you handle it like the Baron fight in Stratholme. A key thing to remember is that the healer should not heal unless its an emergency. I used my priest to shield the tank, he had the PVP Shield and a stoneshield potion for this event. I didn't heal him until toward the end after all DPS killed Kormok then we focused on the adds he summoned. If the tank is a good tank with a high defense, he'll live through this fight and make it appear easier than it is. Once a healer throws any type of healing spell the Bone Mages will home in and attempt to kill the player. This is why the healer should at most, shield the tank and use the rest of their mana for DPS. During the fight the priest MUST dispell the deflective bone shield off the boss or he'll dish shadow damage out to your DPS groups.
I did this with:
Protection lvl 60 Warrior
Holy/Disc lvl 60 Priest
Element/Enhance lvl 60 Shaman
Fire lvl 60 Mage
Frost lvl 60 Mage
We did this several times, the only alternation to the group was a mage instead of a shaman or a warlock and druid instead of two mages and a shaman.
WHERE DO U FIND HIM AT
Okay, dropped this guy14 times in the last 4 days. With various groups, best strategy is this. Have a lock, paladin, priest/RestoDruid, Tank and 1 other. Priest/Resto Druid Main heals lock. Paladin puts up Concentration Aura. Each person in the party takes a greater stoneshiled at the start of the fight. Curse of Elements by lock. Here is the important part, everyone hugs the Ogre, even the priest. Priest/Resto druid main heals the lock and no one else. Lock uses hellfire the entire time. The reason the priest/restodruid must be close is because the hellfire will go down and when the lock brings it back up the healer must be within it. after 14 downings of Kormok in 4 days to get my ironweave pants I found this was the fastest method, most of the time 2 or more of the party members survived. Once we all did.
Oh and the lock must use his fel hound to eat Kormok's shield. that is a must! I read all the posts above, tried them and like this method better the hellfire keeps all aggro on the lock and frees the priests and paladin for healing. Keeping Kormok in the hellfire along with the rest of the party means...dead boss and dead adds good luck with this! :) Streven Arie Peak
After several wipes on Kormok we changed our tactics and this fight went from ridiculously hard to ridiculously easy.
The key is Holy Nova - it does huge amounts of damage to the skellies and also keeps us all healed.
Tank tanks Kormoc and must be careful not to follow him when he moves away, he tends to back off the group but he will remain in melee range. Need to keep him in range of Holy Nova and also close by where Bone Mages appear so DPS don't get Frost Novaed on the way to them.
Everyone groups around Kormoc so Holy Nova gets all mobs
Max DPS on Kormoc, at 50% and 25% two Bone Mages appear left and right of Kormok, swap one each DPS to these, they go down easily but do a lot of damage
Priest uses Holy Nova to clear Skeletons and also to heal. Doesn't cause threat.
Make sure his shield is dispelled.
We each took Frost/Shadow/Fire Protection potions but only frost was used up.
We each also used Holy Water/Dyanamite to speed things up.
Downed him today with pally, warlock, mage, priest, hunter(me). He is massive so we didn't even know if there were any skellies until he went down, pally and mage simply spammed consecrate and frost nova and priest had to use his soulstone but he died 1st try and that's all that I wanted. The mage-skellies are elite btw. Dropped the pally-ring. Guess I'm off farming blackrock bracers now...
What's the item that's used to summon him? The 2h mace he drops is 1337 for a non-raiding paladin.
I am interested in acquiring the sword that Kormok drops. Is it a requirement that someone have the quest in order to summon him, or is there some way to do it any time you go to Scholo if you so choose?
Yup priest dispell hes shield.
Get the rest of the team to throw all at him. ppl will wanna try diffrent tactics and with 17 wipes i can tell u the onlythng that works is to just focus on him. frost nova and get the tank to move out (with boss) of mobs melee range to buy him some time.
Strat holy water indeed and bombs and stuff.
I could not shackle elites - when boss dyed mobs dissappered.
Did this with random group no epics... finaly!
re specced to get holy nova = bought me some extra healing time.
Mobs will charge u like hell asap when u throw u 1st heal and using fade is not sure u loose them all.
Got him down to 25% yesteday - 2 mages, warrior, rogue, me.
Now im getting hope back ........ 13 wipes so far.
think the key is to stay tight together and just trow in what ever you got.
Dont flame - i had really good lads but this boss is über hards with pug group.
....ohh - and reading Mandoramas post under me eaven gives me more hope. Never tryed to dispell his shield - ffs lol. Ty

Killed today: warlock, warrior, mage, preist, druid.
Nuked teh boss with everything we had and the adds stayed on the warrior until the next set of adds spawned, the mage frost novaed and kept them away fromt eh healers.
He also does a shadowbolt volley that hits for like 500 damage, he does this like every 20-30 secs.
The adds do not despawn when he dies, they have to be AoEd unless you wipe after he is dead, then they prolly despawn.
A felhunter will eat his shield, if your lacking a preist (we had two pallys) this is the way we got around it.
which room do you summon him in? I have completed the .5 line and I didn't have to kill him for my line.
we had 2 mages, a rogue, priest and warrior
other mage accidently popped his mana gem, so we couldnt do this exactly but this was our original plan. the other mage had 1k mana less than i did, so he went in right away and aoed, 5 secs wait then i went in and aoed too. we both popped mana gems, once he went oom, i continued to aoe while he evoced, once he finished evoc, i frost novad, he aoed, i ran out and evoc, then went back for aoe.
while we did that, warrior tanked and rogue went all out on boss, priest healed mages and tank.
probably would have been more effective to have rogue help dps down the elite caster adds, but the rogue was a damage meter @#$%^ and wouldnt stop backstabbing the boss for fear of loving dps. oh well, i still pwned his ass in single target damage anyways :)
I killed him tonight. We had war/pally/mage/hunter/priest None of us were wearing epics and priest had some greens. You need to not worrie about his adds and just all out dps on him untill he dies. His adds dont despawn on his death so if you wipe to them just run back and loot it.
why did i get this boss =/
..... why ...
is it to prove my faith in god? (yea im a priest)
This one must be the hardest of them 4 right? It gonne be rally interesting to get a new boss for the right piece (i know you migh get the same boss again) - and experiance the diffrences
My guild members(including me) challenged him today.
We died 3 times and killed him in the 3rd try.
Our group was
rogue - me
Only one warrior was epic, others were half epic or just blues(which is me and the druid).
It seems that the skeleton will keep coming out as long as the boss is alive. However, the boss doesn't really hit hard. Therefore, we made warriors take out their two handed dps weapons, and dps the boss all the way, while priest aoe and druid healed. Having a mage would have been better yes for aoe.
That's what we basially did. We dps the boss all the way, but everyone died except me, and I dps the boss and the boss died. The skeletons disappear after the boss dies. Looks like two rogues can really help this, such as changing one warrior to a rogue, and we could've killed the boss faster.
oh and dont forget to have priest dispell the bone shield around him(yes it can be dispelled). Boss doesn't have too much health, but bone shield really slows u down, and it damages around him for 100 damage per sec(i think).
Being a sword rogue, I went in, ss all the way till I got 5 points, then when sunder was at 5, I turned on slice and dice, blade flurry(to control aggro if it can be controlled at least one more guy on me), and adrenalin rush. When I saw myself getting alot of hits, I turned on the evasion and drank pot.
This was how we did it. Hope this helps.
I really think a rogue instead of one more warrior may have helped alot.
WE all stacked I was MT --A bunch of minion waves come so we had mage and warlock AOE. The DOTs killed Kormok as we all were already dead. First two times were wipes
Just wanted to say that the skeletons timer is not based off Kormoks health. Burning Kormok produces a lot less skeletons than being patient.
A tip: Bring some Stratholme holy water.
We took him down on our second attempt our group was
you need to go straight out DPS on him
whenever his bone shield comes up a shaman or a priest have to dispell it
Priests to heal have to use Holy Nova, this way you heal everyone, do damage to the skellies and you dont get aggro from your heals
Mages dont even really need to ice freeze them in place, just shoot fireballs for more DPS
We tried to kill him many times, without success (wipe).
What's the tactic for this boss?
Kormok has several abilities that you need to watch out for. First of all, he summons multiple minions throughout the fight - at first, sets of 4 Skeleton Warriors; then sets of 2 Skeleton Mages. These seem to be summoned at certain life percentages, not at time intervals.
I'd suggest two strategies for dealing with this. You can take him down slowly, having DPS deal with the summons as they appear. This is slower but safer. You can also try to take him down as fast as possible and deal with the minions after the battle, but this can easily overwhelm you with swarms of skeletons. Only recommended if you have a good way to take mass aggro off your healer (i.e. Paladin Consecrate).
Kormok also has a Bone Shield spell. He will start the battle with this cast and will recast it periodically. This shield will absorb damage and will reflect a lot of shadow damage to your melee attackers. This shield should be dispelled by priests or shamans as soon as possible.
Kormok has a Shadowbolt Volley spell, but it doesn't do very much damage.
Just killed him on 3rd try with
2 x shammies - 1 elemental(me, I tanked), 1 resto
1 x rogue, combat sword
1 x priest, holy
1 x mage, frost
We wiped first 2 times when the rogue used his warrior (decently geared and our guilds maintank), only got him to ~34% on the first 2 attempts. Warrior swapped to rogue and I tanked. Priest pulled with dispell followed by my Chain Lightening forced crit + EarthShock, didn't loose aggro once, everyone went all out except mage who frost nova'd adds twice.
Kept Earthbind totem, Stoneskin, Grace of Air and Mana Spring out. Priest dead after 20-25 seconds, boss dead 9-10 seconds after that.
We got a few ZG items (rep rewards & a few blue drops), rest is from random 5-10man instances. No revered/exalted battleground rewards.
Conclusion: Using time/mana to control adds apart from earthbind & frost nova was a huge waste of time. Max dps on boss and wipe up adds afterwards. (Crap hammer dropped^^ )
note: Shammies purge didn't work on his shield, spammed button to no effect.
You will need an item (hallowed brazier) to summon this boss you can only get through doing the tier 0,5 quest. When you have it, you can summon this boss every time youre doing scholomance. As long as someone summons him, anyone in the group can loot him.
Ive killed him twice now and he sure spawns a lot of adds..
the adds get hard to handle at the end, so i suggest to focus all dps on the boss and try to crowd control the adds somehow with frost nova and suff.. we had two mages aoeing the adds, but the adds kept on coming and at last we just went straight for the boss.
He doesnt seem to hit very hard and hes got low hp and can be killed off pretty fast. I havent figured out how his bone armor spell works yet, but it doesnt seem to be much of a problem, it wears off after awhile.
for the priest: the adds will run for you when you start healing, so be ready to use fade and make sure its not on cooldown. Burst healing-fade, burst healing-fade does the trick. Work together with a mage casting frost nova and get the timing right and it will be easy.
the skellies stop spawning after hes dead but needs to be taken care of.
We just killed him.
- Warrior (me)
- Paladin (holy specced)
- Priest (disc specced)
None of us had epics except for the rogue. We just went in and hit him with everything we had.
The rogue went down first, the priest after. At that time we had him around 15% health. I switched to Battle Stance and executed him until I died - my last execute killed him. The ghost did
disappear, they killed the paladin and the mage. We released and ran in just in time to loot him.

I tried this with three different groups, the first 2 obviously failed, which both consisted of Warlock (me), Mage, Warrior, Paladin, and Priest. The third one I didn't think would work so well, but we beat it first try, and we had Warlock, Hunter, Warrior, Priest, and Paladin. I don't know why but our group did it easily, and we didn't even have much DPS in group other than me, heres DMG meter at end of run:
and when we faced him I didn't aoe at all, so the best strategy is probably ignore the skellies that spawn, just focus on boss and you should be fine, even if you have low DPS such as my group :).
Just my luck, worst boss in the worst instance and I get him for both halves of the quest. I !@#$ing hate me.
Where is this guy? I can't seem to remember him
Can anyone confirm if he drops
