For some easy leveling of mining in the Outlands, there are several nodes of Fel Iron Ore behind the Dark Portal to the Northeast, East and Southeast. As there are no mobs back there one can mount up and run around for a few quick skillups.
As of 2.1 patch - I can no longer find Ore behind/around the portal.
Please someone else confirm this?
I can also comfirm that Blizzard has removed every single mine around the portal... crap!
maxed out my mining in Hellfire Peninsula tonight...had to get the ore to level my blacksmithing from 300-325 so i just farmed it all...so yea...it turned green at around 360 i would say and stayed green all the way to 375..
good luck though...they are much harder to find and u have to kill an easy mob or two for the vein..
i think the most recent patch they nerfed the spawn rate in zangar as well, been having trouble getting any around there.
thats my usual farming area, at 375, easiest to navigate and quickest to get aroun, although apparently not anymore
I have mined the area for a while now and I created a map of the best route in my opinion.
Hope this helps
Ive gotten the most felirons from this route then other routes I have tried.
I get about 2 stacks and a half from every lap on this map, it might be server dependent because there isnt much business here but we'll see.
Do not prospect this. I prospected 8 stacks and got 1 blue gem. Smelt it into bars and/or refine into felsteel for profit.
I find that everyone forgets about the stairs around the dark portal, i start from honor hold (horde can take a similar route just dont go to near of course) and go around the pink route i have shown on the picture.
Also you can go much further left i just use this because it is quick and generally effective, if you do go left make sure you stick to fissures or mountain edges.
This stuff sucks to farm for profit. You're better off farming thorium or adamantite.
I can't even sell a stack for 9G on my server. Today was the first day I posted a loss, trying to sell this crap.
Hey where did the tamed ravager go? I cant see them in their described location. Pls tell me why.
i get stacks of these from fishing around zangarmarsh, pools of floating debris contain crates of fel iron ore, netherweave cloth, and leather scraps
Remember that, for Blacksmithers/Engineers/Jewlcrafters buying ore on the auction house, it takes TWO ores to make ONE bar. Make sure the ore you are buying is at least half the price of the bars on the AH (if you do plan using them for your profession), or you're getting ripped-off. Generally you wont find them at half price becuase they can be prospected, but sometimes you can find cheap ore.
what lvl in mining do you need for mining fel iron veins?
You need mining 300.
I found that Zangarmarsh and Hellfire are the best places. I used this
mining guide with maps
to help me find good circuits to run.
What are these used for?
that use in Blacksmither to craft items
This item is used by blacksmiths, not just jewelcrafters (as the description says above)
I would like to know what they break down into....when you prospect them?
Fel Iron deposits dont ever turn grey...
You can go from 300 to 375 without leaving hellfire.
The 'Requires Jewelcrafting 275' is in reference to the JC level you need to prospect this ore. Not that it is only used in JC.
Technically this item is not used by blacksmiths. The description is right. You have to smelt it into bars before blacksmiths can use it, but jewelcrafters I believe can use the raw ore.
How much skill is minimum required to mine fel iron ore?
since i lvled my main to 70 i was thinking of starting mining with my 60pala alt. have 300 mining
Any ideas on where to train to get my mining skills above 300?
I've been having good luck in zangarmarsh, especially along the southern border/mountains....
This is what I got after prospecting 100 Fel Iron Ores:
7x Blood Garnet
8x Deep Peridot
3x Flame Spesssarite
4x Shadow Draenite
2x Azure Moonstone
1x Golden Draenite
and 1x Noble Topaz
A Rly good place is Hellfire peninsula, start at dark portal and go north and follow the border all the way round back to dark portal.
Got about 60 ores+ 17 mote of earth and 3x mote of fire
Actually, you are incorrect. As you can see, the character needs 117500 XP to get to the next level. Using the table based off of
, we see he is level 45. Then, looking at Thott, we see you need to have Jewelcrafting 275 to Prospect Fel Iron Ore. And since we know you have to be level 30 to attain Artisan in all Professions, with a maximum possible Profession level of 300, this level 45 warrior could very easily have prospected his own ore, which is what I believe he did.
Heres what i got after prospecting 565 fel iron ores
113 x fel iron powder
24 x deep peridot
24 x golden draenite
23 x flame spessarite
23 x azure moonstone
13 x blood garnet
19 x shadow draenite
2 x noble topaz
1 x star of elune
3 x talasite
1 x nightseye
2 x living ruby
Yes, prospected after the patch = always get a gem for every prospect now. BTW - the prospects for the 5000 fel iron ore gem count will be way up now since the 2.1 patch, but i also believe that the availability of gems has also increased. Profit margin will go down since patch?
Just submitted a screeny of all the spawns i found in HFP i think there is about 60 on there i leveled mining from 300-375 in just a few hours going round the outside of the map and came across a few while riding about hope this is helpful.
Is it my imagination or has Blizz removed the nodes around the Dark Portal in HFP ? I used to simply circle the portal there grabbing as many as 30 to 40 nodes. I been there all night for hours and not a single node showed>
The Best Place to farm fel iron is without a doubt in the Fel Iron Peninsula... Now the best path to go, which usually gets me around
50-60 ores an hour
is take your flying mount
Up that path in the middle where all the 60-62 mobs are, once u reach the end of the path fly towards
, then once you fly to zethgor fly to the
3 raveger places
on the western side of the peninsula. Then from the last ravager place, the one leading to Zangrmarsh fly back to Hellfire Citadel, This loop takes around
15-25 mins with Reg flying mount
, probably 5-10 mins with Epic. Hope this helps u guys.
i believe the people who have submitted the screen shots have kept the powder to prove they prospected the ore instead of just buying the gems
I have read on many sites that the best place to mine these is around the Dark Portal, they may be over farmed but i have never found a vein around this area
You need 300 to mine Fel Iron. Your JC needs to be 275 to prospect.
Yep-need 300 mining to MINE fel iron, but 275 JC to prospect. I don't even have mining on my JC (I have a druid with mining/herbs so no reason to really-get all my farming done at once :)
Zangarmarsh is by far the best place to get Fel Iron Ore (And quite a bit of Adamantite). It's VERY abundant there and it's incredibly fast.
Basically all I do is I ride the entire edge of Zangarmarsh, all the way around, with my mount. In one trip I make on average 30 Fel Iron Ore, and about a half-stack of Adamantite. Just stay close to the walls, and check every cave.
One trip around takes about 20 -25 minutes average with epic ground mount.
can u mine this at 286?
If you are grinding ore in Hellfire Peninsula, and veins are tightly fought, you may find that doing
is a good way of getting 5 ore in the time it could take you to find another node, especially if you are such a high level that you don't aggro the mobs. Moreover, you may well find a node whilst doing the quest.
