The trinket you should only see a Druid with. 828 armor (untalented) in Dire Bear form.
The perfect trinket for a druid tank even after TBC epics.
Blizzard should add some trinkets with armor in TBC. Until then this and
is the way to go for druid tanking.
This is one of a few Feral-druid items that's worth picking even if you're spec'ed Balance or Resto, just in case you ever respec... Certainly it's the best tanking trinket at 60, and it stays good for a very long time and still gets a lot of use during early tanking at 70. Other than Badge of Tenacity, which is a very rare drop and expensive at AH, there just aren't that many trinkets around with typical druid tanking stats - armour, agility, stamina - if you already have enough defense.
"why should cat druid use this ?"
I assume he meant for the bearform. 150 armor with 360% armor boost is rather good.
As a PvE tank I did get this last night, gotta say it is much better for me than the other ones.
Just to make thing s clear:
180 AC = 180 * 4.6 = 828 AC in dire bear
180 AC = 180 * 4.6 * 1.1 = 910 AC in dire bear with Thick hide
i saw a mage with this last time I was in strat.
was really a nice laugh :)
Keep in mind that this is one of the only two trinkets with +armor until yet (that is, if you're alliance, for horde there's a third one). If you ever wanna do serious tanking, you really should get this one.
Crit is nice, but it's something replacable, you can get crit on nearly every slot. That extra armor boost, however, is unique.
As posts above me have hinted, the choice for Druids is easy....you pick this. Why?
In Cat form when DPS you would rather have the +2% crit, no question. In Bear when tanking you'd rather have this. However, the effect given by the +2% crit trinket is easily available in other items (including other trinkets). On the other hand, 180 armour AND 1% Dodge in a trinket is totally unique. Pick this or regret it forever.
I am planning ahead. ATM there is only one trinket with arcane res on it. This one, and I know that sooner or later blizz will come out with something that will make it so you need arcane resist to do it. If I need it, I can always wear the maelstorm or other dps trinkets, but you can't replace the dodge, armor or arcane res on this with anything...
is there anyway i can do this quest over i got the spell one and i want this MArk cuz i wanna go feral... what do i do? can i drop my darkfire amulet to redo the quest?
2 crit or not 2 crit, that is the question. i'll bet u a stack of morrowgrain the expansion will have new enchant with +to hit and +to crit. where in the world would i get a crazy idea like that? well, look; they are already hinting at it. +1% to dodge for cloak, +2% threat to gloves...its comin, fear not.
if your a healer, and thats ur bag, then get the caster. if ur bag is kitty get the crit hit.
here is why i chose mark and i'm glad. im very close to the current dmg. reduction from armor. right now i'm sitting at 73%dmg reduction. i use this with smoking heart of the mountain. naxx is crazy (and u'll appreciate +resistance from both of those trinks there). the mobs there (even the 1st little spiders) hit soooo frgn hard, its gonna rock ur sox the 1st time u go. survival is key for druids in pvp rankings and pve. i've had pm's after a duel or others have even logged onto their alt after a bg to tell me i'm like hitting a cynder block wall with a plastic spoon. get this if u <3ur bear. kthxbia ;)
I regret not choosing this over the eye of the beast and i'm a mage. I've long since replaced the eye with better dps trinkets IE: ToeP, ToA, Burst of knowledge, etc.. This rarity with armor and more importantly 10 Arcane resistance would be a nice addition to a tough to create arcane resist set. Shazzrah anyone?
Come TBC, right after you zone into Outland is a quest giver that gives you Blackhand's BreadthV2 has like 2% crit and attack power on it.
Here's the thing, if you're a Druid, and you don't get this trinket, you're screwing yourself over. Now, you might say that you mainly are in cat form, so you'd like the extra crit, or you're resto specced, so you'd prefer the healing trinket, but that's flawed logic. Here's why:
You can get other trinkets that will be similar or better for both those things.
Do a search on thottbot for trinkets with armour over 100. Guess how many there are?
Two. This one, and Smoking Heart of the Mountain (BoP enchanting item). This is a 700 armour trinket (in bear form) for which there is no replacement. You can get other +crit or +agi or +healing trinkets, but you cannot get another one of these or anything similar except the smoking heart, and you could wear both while tanking anyway, so it'd be better to have both.
Now, I understand that your *current* spec may not be optimized for bear form, but if you don't take this trinket, you're basically saying that you will never, ever be asked to tank, and that's just unrealistic.
Take the Mark of Tyranny, please, for me.
EDIT: Oops. Miscalculated the armour for this. I thought this was the 150 armour trinket, but it's 180, so bear form it works out to about 900 armour with thick hide.
yup, i screwed myself over. When i was lvling i was moonkin. so I got the Eye of the Beast becuase of the moonkin talents working off crits.
When i got to 60 I changed to feral. I mainly do tanking. That was about 9 months ago. I have regretted not getting the tanking trinket almost every single day. I even considered lvling a new druid to get it. I asked a GM if I could switch but he just came up with the usual beaurocratic rubbish.
Has anyone had any luck asking a GM to exchange the other quest rewards for this one? I think it's a valid request, as there are only 3 Trinkets known to me with Armor. At the time I chose a reward, Burning Crusade was not available, and had i known it would lead to Feral Druids Tanking for end game instances, I would have chose this. But in the time of choosing a quest reward, druids where meant to heal, not tank (By unspoken reasons). If you feel the same as me, please put in a petition, or feedback to blizzard to either add more trinkets, or offer a way to regain this item. If it was a dropped item, id be more then happy to take the time to farm it, but as it stands, It's a major loss if nothing can be done about this.
Actually yeh, I had some luck with that today. I just told them I had accidently sold my Mark of Tyranny some time ago and that I now wanted it back. They later mailed the item to me :) (ps. I had orginally picked the Eye of the Beast from the quest, which I later disenchanted)
just wanna say that i started playing wow 15 days after the tbc..
I met some great people during my instance runs in "standard" wow,and we kinda kept playing together through every single instance in outland also.
Well i'm kinda into all that old school instances even though u cant get much from them now when in tbc u have extra gear, but it's always fun to see all that old "killer" bosses.
my point is,if u meet some good people during your leveling, and u stay in touch with them, u can get this trinket very easy.
My mate Pizbuin(mage) ^^ and i have done whole brd, lbrs, ubrs(with help of some my rl friends) and i got attuned for mc,ony and bwl,and i also got this awsome trinket. even tho i'm lvl 70. for couple of months now,i still use it for tanking, and i don't think i will change it soon :)
Also got the adamantite figurine
Hands down if you are a druid pick the mark of tyranny from this quest. When you get to the outlands pick the regal protectorate. These 2 items you cannot replace until after running kara. There are loads of other feral/rogue dps trinkets and loads of other spell caster/moonkin trnkets. Even if you do not intend on tanking get them because you may be called to do so. There are very few +defense trinkets and only 4-5? armor trinkets. The only armor trinket better than this is the badge of tenacity which is a random 1/10000 BoE drop in Blade edge mountains. I did not choose the regal protestorate, I chose the kitty and DE'd it after I got the hourglass and abacus. To get a +defense trinket I had to farm Shadow Laberyth... I was exalted by the time it dropped (I was very unlucky). There is a quest reward for + defense called Dalbi's Enigma but its use ability is useless for druids. If you are still asking why? Its very simple armor is the bread and butter of druid tanks. It is consistant damage midigation and needed because we can never attain uncrushable status. Why defense? Becasue while not being able to become uncrushable by mobs we can become uncrittible with 415 defense skill and 3/3 survival of the fittest.
I have full T5 feral set and I still use this trinket for tanking (along with badge of tenacity). Armor on trinkets is hard to find and until you get to the cap I'd rather take it over anything else. I plan to eventually replace it with shadowmoon insignia when I get it, because a) defense is hard to come by in endgame druid items and b) I have 600 armor left to the cap and already lose some with devotion aura on.
It was hard to say no to the 2% crit, but I'm a tank, so I gotta stick to my role.
IMHO only druids should take the Mark of Tyranny. Warriors get two GREAT tanking trinkets early on. One from Onyxia head and the other from BRD Emperor. A warrior who takes this over the 2% to crit needs to do his tanking homework.
When you equip this bad boy, it may seem that 180 x 360% is 648...
but i did a test. it gives me 828 armor extra, really sweet for moonkins!
Do not get this trinket if you are a warrior planning to do anything end-game: PvP, Tank, DPS... There are 3 good rare/epic tanking trinkets:
only 1 crit trinket:
other than the Blackhand's Breadth
Of course, the class that would make the most use of this is a feral druid. But actually this isn't bad for PvE rogues, since crits are mad overrated in dungeon runs, only vital in PvP plus it makes it a bit easier on the healers.
This is definitely nice for warriors, or at least better for them than blackhand's breadth. My former guild master (a complete butthole) has blackhand's breadth as a tanking trinket. Why you might ask? He's an idiot, when I asked why he didn't take mark of tyranny for more dungeon tanking, he said he was an agility/crit warrior.
The only classes who might wanna use this item are Druids, since 180 Armor becomes 648 Armor :)

this trinket is also quite good for priest, yes the 2% crit is also nice....but there are very few armor trinkets available and in a pvp situation armor does indeed come very useful to a priest.
