Hi there,
so i log onto wow today and after a mins of play the video just freezes.
Have been working with out a problem before, and just like that out of no where.
Tried playing in the video option for wow, but noting.
Any ideas or tips to try / test out?
TY

Try updating your graphics card drivers. There was an issue with older revision nVidia drivers causing long delays on alt+tab, which may be related to your issue.

Got the driver updated and it got worse. Now as soon as i get in the game, it freezes.
Tried other games and same thing.
Could the video card be ?crashing?.

Check for a malfunctioning fan both on your case and your graphics card (might as well check the CPU fan while you're at it). You may be overheating.

What graphics card, specifically, is in your system?

GeForce 6600 GT
Like i said, had no trouble until yesterday for some reasons.
Wors case scenario, might have to change video card. Hope not yet tho.

Download
RivaTuner
.
From the main page of the program, click the little triangle next to the words customize (the second one, under driver settings).
This should give you a little pop up menu. Click the image of a graphics card (says 'system settings' when you mouse over it).
Click on the fan tab
Currently, the drop down on the top right should read something like "auto control" What % values does it list your fan running at?
Some nVidia cards (older ones especially), have very funky default fan speeds, especially with the newer forceware drivers. Your fan might just have it's fan speed set to something stupid like 29% (like my 8800GT has by default). If this is the case, you can take direct control of your fan speed with riva tuner, and either just crank it up to like 40-50%, or set up some fan speed profiles to ramp your fan speed up as the card gets hotter.

Riva showed my fan at 100%.
Will have to check my fan more closer, but it seems to be working properly.

Interesting, but doesn't help :(

Does it SOUND like it's at 100%? You should be hearing a rather annoying high-pitched whine from your system if it is... Your fan could be dead on your GPU and it's heat could be solely dissipated by case fans (try leaving the system on, and idle for a long period of time, and if the system locks up, it's likely a heating issue.)

The sounds is as it used to be before.
And as for leaving the pc on, a whole is enough i guess and no prob.
Its really only as soon as I get into a game, which asks for a load of graphics, that if freezes :(

Run that, and see what your gpu temp is at.

GPU Temp at 77C / 170F.
So overheating is pretty obvious. But the fans works as they did before. ?

Is that idle? (ie. wow not running?) If it is, yes it looks like your GPU is overheating (my 8800GT runs at 71c WITH wow running, and only at 45% fan speed).
If your computer is no longer under warranty, try taking the side panel off. That should improve airflow, and lower your GPU temps. Also, while you have that panel off, ensure that your GPU fan
is
still spinning.

very idle, only internet running
GPU fan is running
i've even set a extra vent to see if temp will go down, only went like 1-2 C down while still being idle

Take a look through the posts in
this
thread. As you can tell, there seems to be quite a bit of people having similar issues :P

Well that "little" post helped a lot.
I lowered the clocking and it seems to work , for now.
Left WOW running in the log in screen for a couple of mins and it didn't freeze.
Tho the heat outpout is still a bit high on what they suggest (between 65-75C). Mines still in the mid 80C, its OK, but barely.
Thank you a lot Mr Fox :)

no problem :P

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago running my 8600gt. I ended up rolling my driver back to a much older version, and the problem went away.
using the 6.14.11.8250 driver atm
