Given that it's a 20s cooldown, it's more likely intended as a ranged pull that starts building threat when the warrior can't charge for the initial rage.

I just got this. Exactly what it says on the box, it's your attack power + 1 as damage. Bit of an odd choice, but either way it's going to hurt.

It'll certainly have its uses in PVP, but its obvious use is in pulling while tanking. No more stocking ammo for warriors anymore!

I've got a few questions that I'm hoping someone could shed some light on.

1. Is this ability tied to any of your weapon skills? For example, if you have a main hand sword, would it count as sword weapon skill, thrown weapon skill, or neither?

2. If you're chucking your weapon at a mob/player, does it leave you disarmed until the mob runs up to you and you pull your sword back out of its face?

and most importantly...

3. Does the throwing animation show your sweet glowing epic sword flying through the air, or does it just look like the generic throwing dagger?

As far as question 2, I'm guessing it just sort of magically returns to your hand after you throw it (what if the mob/player runs away and you never see your sword again), but I was curious if there were any unique mechanics regarding that.

It's cheap and it is ranged. Beatuiful thing.
Just so you don't forget, warriors are now the last class with deadzone, this will be really nice to damage classes like mages who tend to stay in there.
Cast time of 0.5s means just you have to stop to do it, it is fast enought :)
EDIT: in next patch nerfed to 1min cooldown, making it more than pulling tool than giving an usable ranged attack :-/

From playing around with this on Beta it will be quite a powerful tool, it's instant cast and can be used in melee range all the way out to 30 yards. This very much ups a warriors burst potential and definitely will be great when combined with Gag Order.

To answer an earlier question or two, this does not disarm you. I am unsure if this is tied to weapon skills, I never gained weapon skills from using it but if I had to guess I would say that it would as it requires a melee weapon.

Combine it with shooting your gun when appropriate for that extra smidge of aggro. Every little point counts at the initiation of combat.

This can be combined with shooting and charging to front-load threat on a target. Shoot the mob, Heroic Throw at it, then charge it to gain rage for your next ability.

You can also put threat on three targets right away: Shoot target A (melee), Heroic Throw at target B (caster), and charge target C (caster or melee). The silence will make the caster run to wherever you charge, so that you can more easily get them in position for a Shockwave.

This seems like it will be wonderful for letting DPS lay into a mob relatively early on in a fight.

Depending on how much threat it causes, I can see it being used to regain the attention of a lose mob if taunt is on CD or the mob is immune to taunt. Similar to how a Paladin shocks or exorcism's mobs now.

Just imagine a Thunderfury / Sulfuras or maybe Frostmourne flying towards you, i would be pretty shocked.

That doesn't sound terrible at all. It's would make a pretty balanced and fun skill out of Heroic Throw.

The war could alternatively get a melee range physical root that holds both attacker and victim in place for a few seconds.

And I actually don't see any reason to bash viable ideas just because one doesn't like them.

Take a pill you 'tard. It's a great idea. No need for you to get butt-hurt coz you didn't think of it first. If the idea wasn't good, then they wouldn't have given the game mechanic to DKs now would they? I'm sure the warrior class will get something like death grip down the line. And when they do, I'll /facepalm ya!

Well, it seems a good idea, and is a great buff for Warrior's, but that plus Intercept=Immune to kiting (Basically) so we would have allot of QQ. I think 100% is a tad OP, but a 25%-50% and if they aren't dragged in they are tripped, effectively rooting them for the same amount of time, I would favor, as it doesn't kill the kiter but gives the warrior a chance to get on even terms at the very least.

Death Grip is cool, and rather iconic, but that is no reason for it to be exclusive. If we give it to warriors though, we may get other melee classing whining.

Warriors will never get anything remotely like Death Grip, they get all this instead, let the Death Knights have something in peace :) warrior even has a healing ability too now, what more do they want? They have: insane melee power, now they have great range threat ability, they have self healing, what else do you need? Poisons/diseases on your weapon for extra dmg? Lol get real!

if they get a wannabe Death Grip ability I will quit before I even begin! Stop QQ'ing about your class being underpowered. At 80, no class will be underpowered:)

This ability is pretty sexy for PvE pulls, or running trash. However its PvP implications are along the lines of a "where u going? no where..." skill. I hate being rooted and ran from with just like 500 more health to rip through. Now if this dazed the target for 5 seconds... I personally would be excited, but then and only then should anyone call this OP.

Everyone keeps talking about this being a great skill for Fury and Protection. This will by far be much greater for Arms in my opinion, my warrior has 2300 AP unbuffed. Thats 12 + 2300*0.5, which is 1156 damage. That + the Blood Frenzy, Deep Wounds, and Trauma that any Arms warrior will immediately put on his/her foe will make us so much harder to kite as well as being yet another great high damage Arms skill. Not to mention my 36.55% Crit which has a very good chance for that 1156 unbuffed to turn into 2312. My gear is Pre-ZA, so I know that the awesome Arms warriors out there will be doing massive damage with this......Mages will have to say goodbye to thier near perfect PVP record on us!

I assume that fury warriors will have about 4k ap with battle shout on lvl 80, so this ability will hit for 2000-2100 and crit for 4k

Yes, this ability will be useful for providing initial threat on a boss. That's nice, and will give a second or two more dps on a boss encounter.

However, this ability is a huge boon to Protection Warriors for PvP. With the many changes to the Protection tree, especially the Warbringer talent, as well as the addition of this ability's buff from Gag Order, Protection Warriors are definitely a force to be reckoned with for arenas.

Interesting choice of an icon that Blizzard gave it.

It happens to be the same icon as http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28767 which warriors were using in higher tier raid instances in BC as a method of pulling fast moving patrols. Coincidence?

How did Heroic Throw get the 12 in (12 + AP*0.50)
Blizzard Employees in conversation:

Employee 1: "Ya heroic throw does pretty decent damage, but it should be a little bit stronger, it's only doing AP*0.50. That's not nearly enough. Last night this *@&%in blinky mage got away from me with 13 hp, 13! I would have had him if Heroic throw did the damage it was suppose to do!"
Employee 2: "You know what, you're right man. I'm gonna talk to Frank, i'll see what he can do about it."

The next day...

Employee 1: "So any news from Frank?"
Employee 2: "Yes, i told him about your dilemma and he decided to help you out."
Employee 1: "Awesome! What's the change?"
Employee 2: "Remember how Heroic Throw was doing (AP*0.50)? Well, now it does (AP*0.50 + 12)!"

IMO, this skill seems a little underpowered (damage-wise, althought it's probably not meant to be a main DPS skill anyways). It doesn't do much damage to begin with, and it has a 60 second CD. I mean, of course it's better than nothing and its great as a way to pull, but come on... Fan of Knives (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=51723) has (well, is going to) no cooldown at all, and deals a lot of damage to everything around you. This only hits 1 target for "eh" damage...

Just me ranting here about DPS warriors :P

You would think with how lacking the abilities we got 70-80 compared to nearly every other class who almost all got great new abilities, they would have at least made this do weapon damage seeing as how we are throwing the weapon at them. I'm sorry, but throwing my gigantic axe at someone is probably going to hurt them more than what this does, if anything it would hurt more than a regular swing too.

This is a great move for pulling as a Protection Warrior. Not only does it provide you with an ammo free pull (i.e. never running out of ammo half-way through a raid), but if you improve it with http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=12958, you can pull casters with ease. In my opinion, one of the best things Blizzard has done for Protection Warriors.

Probably posted elsewhere too but any ability that does damage modified from something + a set amount of damage uses the static damage increase as the threat modifier.

Titan's Grip -- Only throws main hand weapon.

Also, if you are in a lower area and skilling up a weapon, it counts toward the skill up. I was leveling staff just for the heck of it, threw it, and gained a skill up.

heroic throw can increase the weapon skill of the currently equipped weapon, just verified by equipping a stave of 200 skill and using heroic throw at a ranged mob

This attack sees its true glory when you swap to dark herring as your main hand weapon before using it. Now, you're chucking a fish at your opponent. Doesn't get much more offensive than that, and since you can swap weapons in combat, you can start combat with that fish to the face, and then swap to your regular weapon.

Heroic Throw seems to work with Sweeping Strikes, but only when you are in melee-range.

EDIT: It seems if you have a mob in melee-range, activate Sweeping Strikes and Heroic Throw another mob at range the mob in melee-range will take damage from sweeping strikes.

Now to find a use for it!

This is only effective for Warrior tanks to pull/regain aggro from a distance. But considering Taunt, Warbringer, and Intercept, is this really that useful?

Certainly not for DPS Warriors, with the exception of killing a fleeing enemy who is down to nothing on health. But for PVP? Worthless. Too much of a cooldown, or not enough damage. I've thrown my Titansteel Destroyer at mounted players, only to see them gallop away, barely scratched (and I'm dismounted in the process). The only people it kills are clothies...when they're almost dead...and it crits.

Paladins' Hammer of Wrath owns this all day long.

I kinda like to pull, especially bosses with: (imp)Bloodrage - (Battle Shout sometimes for even more dmg/threat) - (imp)Heroic Throw - Warbringer Charge - Shield Block(while charging) - Shield Slam

Creates heavy starting aggro as you generally reach the boss before the throw lands, and then instantly slam with double block value. The dps can start right away with no problem at all. Plus it looks damn awesome to pull off that combo flawlessly :>

This ability, according to the Wowhead tooltip, does the same amount of damage as http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=64382, but obviously do vastly different things. Interesting to know, especially if you're in battle stance and trying to finish of a pesky clothy in pvp.

An all-round excellent warrior ability for all three specs and PvP. High damage, decent range, instant, no rage cost, and usable in any stance. Also a 3 sec silence with gag order. Here are the various uses:
Protection:
- Initiating a pull, or holding threat after a long range taunt. Remember, if you don't hit the mob within a certain time after taunting, it will lose aggro and switch targets. If you're taunting a mob which is 20 - 30 yards away, you can use this to get aggro on it before it goes to someone else.
- An extra silence in PvP, for when charge and intercept are on cooldown, or a mage has frozen you and is preparing to cast a spell.
- Pulling a caster into melee range - most casters who are not immune to silence will attempt to melee opponents when silenced. By silencing them, you can force them to come into melee range for easier aggro holding.
Fury:
-Used in the free GCD between bloodthirsts where you'd normally use slam. Heroic throw does more damage and costs no rage.
Arms:
-Used in place of a slam. Again, this does more damage, costs no rage, and is instant.
-Both fury and arms can use this in PvP while rooted, or to prevent an opponent escaping or hit an airborne opponent.

In conclusion, this is a simple yet very useful ability. All three specs should have this on CD most of the time both in PvE and in PvP.

It's ridiculous how many times this has helped me with getting that final blow in pvp from fleeing enemies. Especially rogues and feral druids who pop their sprint ability hoping to get away and bandage / heal up. ;D

In addition to all of the helpful information posted here, Warriors, this ability is your friend when it comes to those pesky hunters, as it ignores Deterrence. I'm not sure if this is a glitch, as the tooltip for Heroic Throw does not specify what it bypasses, but there you have it.

Heroic throw is a bit of a useless ability in terms of PvP, seeing it only does 50% weapon damage, which is about 10k damage for a decent level 90 weapon and no longer silences players with the Gag Order glyph. Not worth a GCD, to be honest.
