Gnomish Death Ray has ridiculous damage. I have seen level 39 gnomes crit with this for thousands. Rogues especially can combo this with gouge (if you have improved gouge). This way, the target is safely incapacitated while you charge up your huge burst of damage.

On my 60 mage i can use this and crit for 3k and take zero mana from the drain, because the damage is physical damage and is absorbed by mana shield. Good combo to hit someone in a frost nova.

Great PvP Trinket. I myself as a Paladin like to use it as a means of extra dps. Ive seen this thing crit for 5k damage before. It increases damage as you level up. Also as a paladin you can bubble and use the death ray and not get damaged which is always a plus.

A tactical way for a warrior could be that you use intimidating shout and then the trinket.

Same here for Priests. I bubble up and prime the ray and can do massive amounts of damage. So far my max was at level 50 against a level 43 Ogre doing 2,900 damage!!!

On mobs closer to my level I usually do around 800 damage.

Pair this trinket up with the goblin rocket launcher (go gnomish engineering, get deathray. Then change to goblin, get rocket launcher) and you've got a nasty surprise for any rogue that wants a piece of you in pvp.

from what ive seen, there seems to be a equation based on lvl and current health. Also from what ive seen in BG's, and Arenas, there seems to be a lower feedback, therefore a lower damage, on spellcasting classes. Weither or not this is intended or is due to the obvious diffrence in health, i do not know.

My though is that it does not increade with engeneering skill, but is a % equation. it probably drains somewhere between 3-5% health every second while charging, and than does that drained damage X 5.5 . Meaning depending on the class, race, spec, and gear can COMPLEATLY change the damage, and feedback. This would be the reason for the odd stories about insane damage. Also from talking to a GM, it has been verified that the reason for the pre-patch damage, was that the damage delt to yourself, each time, could crit. which, although the chance would be immensely small, could cause IMMENSE damage.Unfortunately i did not ask what was the exact fix to this issue, my best bet was not only makeing the feedback unable to crit, but a unknown percent decrease in damage again based on HP. This would stop super stamina pallyes, or war. to hit humongus damage.

I don't know if this has been changed but I always do around 800 damage. You also need to stand really close to use it and it's slow so the only use I have found for it is saving some mana in dungeons. That use is marginal though due to cooldown and I only use it because I have the Ice Barrier
