This spell defines one of the purposes of a mage in instances - crowd control.
When in an instance, facing multiple mobs, always try to sheep one. Tell your party which one you're going to polymorph, so they don't attack and break it - either use a /say macro, or, if you're leader, put a raid icon on the mob.

Be smart when using this spell:
a) Keep the regeneration in mind. Don't cast it on something which is about to die - it restores their hp and other stats very quickly, so this is just giving it a potion and making you and perhaps your party's life harder.
b) Don't cast on a mob which someone is attacking, unless it is vital for you to sheep it, in which case tell the person to stop slashing away first; otherwise, it's a waste of mana.
c) Don't run around AEing, or Blizzard, or any other AoE spell afterwards - this just breaks the sheep.
d) Don't sheep after a DoT has been put on the targetted mob, as the damage will break the effect.

Do this well, and your party will love you. You will also have one less beast/humanoid to kill when facing multiple ones!

Certain classes have PvP trinkets which can break Polymorph. Engineers can also create un-polymorph trinkets, and priests can dispel magic.

I personally think that this is one of the best things blizzard could have done... no more going into a BG and having a mage sheep you then just sit back and keep sheeping you until back up comes or the mage is fully rested up and can take you down ... 30sec sheeps were just far to much for BG's.

This spell is a very good one and with the add-on u can get from Curse-Gaming MCpoly 0.4, you make your hot key. While in a group, when a group member gets mind control you hit the hot key and that person gets polyed which has saved my group a few hundred times, it saves you from having to target the party member thats MCed. All you do is hit the hotkey :)

normally you get dismounted but when i went to the ghostlands a lvl 17 mage dueled me and spammed polymorph on me and i didnt dismount =P

at lvl 60 u get polymorph pig ( piggy piggy piggy!) and polymorph turtle. it transforms 2 wat ever it says ( player-pig for pig 1 and player-turtle for the other). it does wander around more :-/ or :( cuz then it gets more health. like the first guy said dont use it when the mob is just about 2 die then its just a waste of mana!

This is my favorite polymorph macro, and I made it myself.

Left-click focuses on your target and casts polymorph (top rank you have).
Right-click polymorphs your focus.

You could just aswell use rank 1 polymorph in pvp, cause it's just the same as any other of the ranks and saves you some mana.

Let's say you use polymorph rank 4 about 10 times per game, that will be in total cost of 10*150=1500 mana.

When using rank 1 you will only use 60 mana per cast, which will end up with 10*60=600 mana, so you save pretty much mana by using the lower rank of polymorph.

Mages aren't going to have a monopoly on the "transforming CC" after WotLK.
Shamans are getting a "Hex" that works just like Polymorph: It turns a Beast or Humanoid into a random critter. It doesn't work on critters like Polymorph does, though (doesn't make any sense, a critter won't attack you anyway...)

You can use this as much as you want in PvE, as it outlasts the 15 second rule.

One of the major reasons I love druids. If in any form, you can't cast this. If the target is in druid form and you poly them, then can shapeshift.

With the changes to spell costs in patch 3.0 (every spell costs percentage of base mana with lower ranks costing more), first rank of Polymorph is no longer useful for PvP, the last rank is cheaper.

As of Patch 4.0.1, when using #showtooltip Polymorph, the spell tooltip will show Polymorph(Pig)'s tooltip. =(

It seems like Druids can no longer shift out of polymorph (or hex for that matter) if afflicted by it in caster form.

What is the chance of failure of the Polymorph? I have been trying to cast it in BGs and on raids, and it never seems to work any more; it's been weeks since I've been able to successfully sheep someone. Or does the RNG just hate me lately?

The "at war" feature with factions and this spell can create an awesome absurdity. You can sheep a vendor, uncheck "at war"(because CCs no longer start combat) then buy from the vendor. Unlike freezing trap though the vendor no longer says it's clicked on lines, no sheeped orcs saying "Lok'tar".

If a polymorphed target has a shiled, or something that absorbs damage, and i attack them but the spell is absorbed, the effect breaks? or only when it causes damage?

Dispersed Dispersion Sprint priests can get polymorphed, spellstollen Spellsteal and kicked bad afterwards. Important, the Dispersion Sprint ability won't work while sheepped.

Has anyone else noticed that in MoP, the polymorphed target will agro you after the effect ends, even though you didn't have agro on it

Puts a raid target icon on the target and alerts any allies to it. Consider adding other commands to attract attention ie./use druid and priest statue set. Transferable with other utility spells and abilities like slow fall or jeeves.

If you want to use random macro now in draenor for multiple polymorph form you need to type this default one as /cast polymorph(sheep)

So when you sheep a mob, why can you aggro it when you get close? I would think they would be incapacitated.
