This ability is weaker than that concecration is in damage (look in the edit to see an example), due to long cd, but it makes it up with the aoe healing it does. As always, more aoe damage is always welcome when we are to kill trash or adds.

I can expect this to be used when there is aoe damage and multiple adds incoming, to kill them off faster and to help the healers marginally in healing. This ability will still be very situational, and have few proper uses, for larger add packs rarely appear together with heavy aoe damage, unless the adds are the reason of the aoe.

The spell animation of this ability is awesome, it's a hammer, lodged in the ground, that shoots friggin' holy lightning from it! How is that not awesome? The animation of this ability is almost a reason to choose it by itself.

I have been testing the damage of Light's hammer and Concecration without vengance and buffs, and compared the results
With one minute of uptime of concecration I have recorded a total damage dealt 104 431, and with a single concecration i recorded
14 686 damage dealt.
With a single Light's hammer I dealt a total of 51 364 damage, and did an equal amount of healing.

This is not conclusive evidence by far, but just a demonstration, and everything might change through scaling with spellpower, and vengance.

Hurts enemies with Light's Hammer. Arcing Light deals quite a bit more damage than Consecration per tick, but has lower average DPS due to the longer CD.
Heals allies with Arcing Light.

Helpful for picking up adds if you know where they will spawn (can also be paired with Charred Glyph to make sure nothing gets passed you).
Also useful for helping ease the burden on healers.
~~Strangely, the damage and healing of this spell are attributed to "Light's Hammer", a guardian or pet of yours~~. Changed with 5.2.

For anyone farming low level mobs. If you kill them with this ability alone you will not get the tag and they will despawn within a few seconds of dying. Gotta stick to all the other aoe's we got.

Hands down, my favorite new ability for paladins in Mists of Pandaria. Situational? Yes. Underpowered? Most certainly. But forget all that stuff. It just looks COOL.

Does anyone know the dps difference between this spell and ? Like is it worth have this spell over execution sentence on the off chance that you can use it for additional aoe instead of the better single target spell? Just as a general dps boost question.

Just to make the math easy, I'm going to say that the spell power is 20,000.

Light's Hammer
Deals 3268 to 3993 (+ 32.1% of SpellPower) Holy damage to enemies within the area and 3268 to 3993 (+ 32.1% of SpellPower) healing to allies within the area every 2 sec.

Mathed:
Deals 9688 to 10413 Holy damage to enemies within the area and 9688 to 10413 healing to allies within the area every 2 sec.

Summary over duration of spell.
Light's Hammer Single target damage = 87192 to 93717 requires no movement for 18 seconds
Light's Hammer 2 target damage = 174384 to 187434 requires no movement for 18 seconds

Upside:
Best AoE damage for level 90 talents past 5 targets. 5 or below, Holy Prism ties with it.
only 1 GCD.
Healing is part of the offense.

Downside: targets MUST not move for 18 seconds. targets must live through the entire 18 seconds for full effectiveness. Generates no threat! Ability acts similar to how totems do. Recount seems to also have issues tracking this ability as of 5.1. Ability does not perform as well as alternatives vs Single targets. (vs Holy Prism, or Execution Sentence)

Theese comments aren't very informative or correct. I had to make an account just say this:

Light's hammer is one of the most powerful healing cooldowns in a 10 man raid if used by a Prot Paladin with a little bit of Vengeance. It can be compered with spells such as Tranquility (seeing as you don't have to channel it) but it has a much lower CD.

Look at the healing peaks from our Prot paladin every ~1 minute in last phase. Its peaking at 150k.

On higher Vengeance fights it will heal for much more.

Obviously, it is only this strong if it hits all 6 targets before it diminishes.

Yellow is healing received from having the enemy in the prism from Holy Prism and healing 5 players cast 3 times during a minute
Orange is healing received from having an ally in the prism from Holy Prism and healing 1 player cast 3 times during a minute
Red is healing received from having the enemy in the prism from Holy Prism and healing 1 player cast 3 times during a minute

The moral of the story is that Light's Hammer is better for (burst) healing 7-25 stacked people(7 is where it actually crosses over). Holy Prism is better for healing 1-5 people 3 times a minute.

Wondering why you automatically stand up when your Light’s Hammer heals an ally? Well, it’s mainly because of an issue with the spell. Don’t worry, we are aware of it and working on a solution. Sorry for the inconvenience, we’ll keep you updated as much as we can. :)
