Costume Contest for Blizzard EU!
So being US-based, we wind up running a lot of contests that are US-only, and I know our non US-based community feels a little left out sometimes, so I figured I'd let you guys know about an opportunity to turn the tables on us. :)
Blizzard EU
is having a
Costume Contest
! Any of you who are interested in going to Blizzcon, and (like many of us) are doubtful of your ability to secure tickets when they go on sale this weekend, consider this contest a second chance!

Maintenance Complainers: Justified?
Every single Tuesday on North American servers and every single Wednesday on EU servers, Blizzard takes down their servers for maintenance. Sometimes it's for full maintenance, and other times it's for rolling restarts. Since this has been the normal routine for over four years now, one thing really confuses me. It's not the fact that Blizzard even
does
maintenance in the first place; rather, what confuses me is the fact that players still complain about it. It makes me wonder why they complain about in the first place, and if they've not found a way to cope with the 6-8 hour inconvenience.
Let's venture into the realm of possibilities!

Thinking About Other MMOs? Me, Too
It started when World of Warcraft was released and it didn't take long for me to become an obsessed fan, a hardcore player spending hours upon hours in Azeroth every day. Lately though, I've burned out and play less than ever. The thing is, I miss adventure.
Have you ever thought about playing another massively multi-player online game (MMO)?
I have.
And it isn't difficult to understand a large number of WoW players are casual gamers. It should come as no surprise that, for a game we subscribe to monthly, many players put a lot of time into their characters.
Do casual gamers get tired of playing the same game even though they invest fewer hours per week?
Unbeknown to myself, I recently discovered a plethora of MMO choices floating around the Internet. No doubt some of you have heard of games such as Vanguard or Warhammer, games which were supposed to dethrone World of Warcraft after their release (yet failed to do so). But how many of you have heard of the game
Perfect World International
, the English adaptation of a popular Chinese MMO sequel? It's a free to pla

Breaking News: Applebee's to Open Up In Storm Peaks!
The following is based on completely true facts. No part of this story has been doctored in any way, shape or form.
“Yes! Home from class early.” I run into my room and throw my bag on the floor, and jump on my computer. “Come on you stupid computer, load faster.” I put in my user name and password and off I go—I log in to find my Paladin in Storm Peaks, just where I had left him. “Alright, time to get my artisan flying, stop being lazy,” I tell myself, but who am I to kid? It’s not going to happen anytime soon. Too many shiny things to buy, so little gold to spend on them! I mount up; grab the reins of my…wooden mechanical flying machine, and whoooosh! Off I go at a moderate pace into the abyss.
Creak, crack, clank goes my flying machine. I’ve loved this thing since the day I spent way too much gold at the auction house to craft it. How I daydream as I’m flying towards Naxxramas and all my guild mates are flying past me at incredible speeds of the day I get to fly my epic mechanical flying machine, complete with hula girl doll, wind whipping through my long, flowing beard. Maybe if I just paint the face myself, and

Gamers Are Normal? Shh, Don't tell!
Do you know someone who plays games, but isn't really a gamer? I've met a lot of what I like to call “normal” people in Azeroth. But wait, normal you say? Playing World of Warcraft?
How can this be?!
All kinds of people play WoW. People who are new to online gaming, or video and computer games period, have been constantly flocking toward what I consider the most full-featured and accessible MMO built to date. The number of people who had, previously, never ventured beyond Solitaire on Windows 3.1 is impressive. Now they're raiding and getting phat lewtz every week. How awesome is that?
Of course, everyone knows we gamers are far from normal. We fly around on mystical dragons, take magic carpet rides, and yes--we even have neighbors who waggle when they walk (sometimes named
Noxychu
).
So what exactly is normal when we're all responsible for this madness?
What exactly do you define as a “normal” person? Do you hide your gaming habits from others?

'Warcraft' Helps Swine Flu Researchers
Some of you might remember the
Порченая кровь
pandemic from a few years back, when
Hakkar
became the Number 1 cause of death throughout the entire World of Warcraft.
Some of you (mostly those living in the Americas I guess) might be thinking about the recent
Swine Flu
H1N1 outbreak, which is still a reason for a lot of worries among most families in not only the Americas, but other continents as well.
But have you even imagined that the two events may not only be similar in character, but that the players' behaviour during Hakkar's madness could be used by U.S. Department of Homeland Security? Well, it's not only possible, but it's happening!

Arena Changes
Crygil recently announced some changes to the arena rating system. To give you a basic overview, they're changing the 3v3 and 5v5 rating systems to correct the imbalance between the ratings people can achieve in those brackets vs. the 2v2 bracket. Please note that they're also increasing the ratings requirements for the ilevel 239 weapons to compensate—
but the tooltips will not change immediately
, both in game and on Wowhead.

In-Game Casinos — Legal?
I wrote this blog a little while ago, so the topic may be a little played out. But
Malgayne
just got around to publishing it—so blame him!
Blizzard announced earlier this year that their policy on running an in-game casino had changed. For three years, the policy had been that an in-game casino was against their Terms of Use. For the full story, click
here
.
Originally, running casinos was banned altogether. Now, their stance on it is that "they do not represent a violation" of their Terms of Use, but you could not
spam
advertisements or scam players. In a more recent post, found
here
, Blizzard decided to ban advertisements altogether due to two reasons: one, because the advertisements were going out of hand; and two, because players expressed their disapproval over this.

Introducing MMOUI Minion!
So our friends at
WoWInterface
are rolling out a
very
exciting new project.
It's called
MMOUI Minion
, and it's exactly what we've always wanted from an AddOn site—a simple, easy to use client that lets you manage your addons, update them all with a single click (or update them automatically when new versions come out), and does it all with the full permission of the authors and the sites involved—without gimping your features
or
your download speeds.
Cairenn
(who I'm a big fan of) and the team over there are just about to enter open beta, and they're looking for input from the Wowhead community. I'm looking forward to collecting a lot of feedback over here to give them—don't you guys let me down. ;)
We’ve got an FAQ for you guys here after the break (in addition to the more complete FAQ at WoWInterface

Blessing of Light
So, I have a problem, and maybe you can help me.
Warriors, Rogues, and Hunters draw their abilities from some amount of martial perfection. Mages and Warlocks derive their power from the demonic (yes mages too, read your lore), Shamans and Druids derive their power from nature, Death Knights from the Lich King, Paladins and Priests from the Light.
Now here's what gets me: As far as I can tell, the Lich King and the Light both couldn't care less if you're actually using their power to serve their own goals.

Wowhead Comic #19
I know this was supposed to be posted yesterday, but hey, we all have bad days.
Ah,
Children's Week
.
Mr. Wiggles
is finally mine. Apart from the amazingly adorable chubby little piggy, my favourite part of this event is the
Bad Example
achievement. It's not difficult, doesn't have a story behind it, no special significance, it's just ironically mean. And that amuses me. Just one of those fun, selfish and silly achievements.
And so this week's comic has no joke, no punchline, etc. Just lots and lots of delicious and moist cake.
Mmm. Moist.

Late Post! (Interview with Malgayne)
So I did this a while ago, and I could have SWORN I posted about it, but apparently I didn't—so now I'm linking you to some VERY old news. But I would still be remiss if I didn't link you, no matter how embarrassed I am, so here we go:
I've recently done an interview for a WoW video podcast called

Children's Week 2009 (May 1 - May 7) - Quest Guide + Information!
Seldom in the World of Warcraft do we think that war is at hand, and for every fallen hero, there are a hundred commoners and civilians slain by beasts, agents of the Scourge, agents of the Old Gods, or even members of the opposite faction! In days like this, we, the heroes of Azeroth should take a bit of extra responsibility and do something beyond holding the monsters at bay, beyond slaughtering them, or restoring the health of our troops: we should take care of the numberless orphans left in the wake of this war.
Children's Week is upon us! A week in which we brave face a challenge greater than any undead monstrosity, a task more daunting than saving the world. We must become parents for all those orphans throughout Azeroth and make sure they are happy. We can't tank a child's fears, we can't heal its memories of pain, nor can we DPS the sorrow out of them. So equip your toys, make a mage conjure a candy table, fill your quiver with joy, load your gun with something colorful, and venture into the World of Parenting!
(Yes, the intro did come out as dramatic as you said it was, Argent
