Patch 8.3 is coming January 14th (15th in EU)!
Here are some things you can do now to get a head start and ensure you don’t need to do old content when the patch hits.
Learn more about these Pre-Patch strategies in my video:
New Races and Race/Class Combos
Vulpera and Mechagnomes
The Vulpera
are joining the Horde in Patch 8.3! When the patch hits, you’ll need to complete a short quest chain to unlock them, but that quest chain requires you to be Exalted with
Жители Вол'дуна
, and to have completed most of the storyline quests in Vol’dun, earning the
Secrets in the Sands
achievement. Learn more about the Vulpera in our
Vulpera Allied Race Guide
.
The Alliance are welcoming
Mechagnomes
to their ranks - though you must similarly complete
the Mechagon storyline
and reach Exalted with
Ржавоболтское сопротивление
to begin the questline. Learn more about the Mechagnomes in our
Mechagnome Allied Race Guide
.
If either of these Allied Races interest you, you should complete those steps now so that you’re ready for Patch day! You can use the
Attunement Tracker
to see your progress towards unlocking these Races.
Pandaren and Allied Death Knights
If you
pre-order the Shadowlands expansion
, you’ll be able to roll up a Pandaren or Allied Race Death Knight next patch! If that’s something that interests you, you will need to buy the pre-order, and also make sure you’ve unlocked whichever Allied Race you’d like to serve Bolvar with.
Goblin and Worgen Heritage Armor
If you are a Goblin or Worgen, you will be able to
earn Race-exclusive heritage armor in Visions of N’Zoth
. You will first need to be Max Level, which is
fairly easy to do right now with Korrak's Revenge
, and be Exalted with your Race’s faction (either the
Картель Трюмных Вод
or
Гилнеас
), so be sure to do that now if you haven’t already. A helpful item for this is your faction’s tabard:
Гербовая накидка картеля Трюмных Вод
or
Гербовая накидка Гилнеаса
.
Essences
There are a handful of
new Essences
coming in Patch 8.3, many of which look powerful, but there’s nothing you can do now to start progressing towards these. You can, however, finish working on any Essences you don’t currently have - it’s worth noting that the Heart of Azeroth is gaining a 3rd Minor Essence slot once you reach neck level 75, so you may want access to more Essences than you currently need.
Collecting Rank 3 of every Essence can be a daunting prospect, especially if you still practice the Pre-Patch 8.2 tradition of “playing an alt,” so let’s break down which Essences you may be more or less interested in grinding now based on what’s coming next patch.
Vision of Perfection
Buffed, but easier to get next patch.
The Major effect of this Essence is receiving a
12% buff
to its Proc rate, but it’s also going to be easier to acquire next patch, as the pieces that create it are currently dropping from Operation: Mechagon Mythic Plus runs on the PTR.
Nazjatar and Mechagon Rep Essences
Some Buffs, but easier to get next patch.
These Essences are becoming
much easier to acquire
- you’ll only need to be Revered to get Rank 3, and you’ll need far fewer
Ящик "ЗПЧСТ"
for the Mechagon ones. There are also a handful of
buffs
coming to the DPS Essences -
Purification Protocol
will do 15% more damage as a Major Essence, and the Minor is receiving an indirect buff in the increased amount of Aberrations in Ny’alotha.
The Unbound Force
is getting a 40% damage buff to the Major effect, and substantial duration increases to the Minor. You don’t need to buy these Rank 3 Essences now, but you may at least want to get to Revered so you will be able to when the patch hits.
Worldvein Resonance
Massively Buffed!
This Essence’s Major power is
being buffed
to give 18 seconds of huge bonus Primary Stat every 1 minute. In the past, with a few exceptions, guilds have largely shied away from stacking this essence but the power level associated with the reworked Major Power looks very tempting. It's probably time to have the conversation about getting everyone in your guild to have this thing ready at Rank 3 for Ny'alotha.
Blood of the Enemy
Indirectly Buffed.
This Essence is receiving an indirect buff with the introduction of added
Crit Damage Corruptions
on our items. Grinding this Essence can be a pain - using only First Win of the Day Battleground and Epic Battlegrounds is a good strategy, or you can wait for the
Battleground Bonus Week
near the start of January.
Conflict and Strife
Indirectly Buffed.
Since we’re getting a 3rd Minor Slot, this is a great Essence to make sure you have since it is so flexible and works well in almost any situation. It takes 4 total weeks to acquire Rank 3 from nothing if you can make it to 1600 Rating in PvP (compared to 3 weeks at 2100, 6 weeks at 1400, or 15 weeks at 1000).
Condensed Life-Force
Nerfed, but becoming harder to get next patch.
It’s going to be hard to get this or the other Eternal Palace Essences next patch, since it’ll no longer be current content, so if you want to have them you should probably do it now. Luckily, Condensed Life-Force was the strongest of the 3, and it’s receiving several heavy nerfs - the Major Power’s Guardian of Azeroth is receiving a
25% attack speed nerf
, and the Azerite Spikes now only increase your damage by
3%, from 5%
. This should reduce the importance of having this Essence, especially as new DPS Essences from Ny’alotha look to be quite competitive.
The other roles' Eternal Palace Essences have been far less used than Condensed Life-Force, though it's worth noting that
Vitality Conduit
is being changed to more accurately show its healing on meters, which may lead to an increase in popularity if it's found to perform well.
Leveling
If you're interested in playing a new character, now is the time to level it!
Korrak's Revenge is still active
and remains a great way to get characters to Level 120 quickly, where you can leave them in questing greens and awaiting the
item level 410 Bind on Account gear
that you'll be able to send from your main next patch.
AP Min-maxing
Next patch you’ll once again be able to level up your Heart of Azeroth beyond level 70, and there are a few things you can do now that will convert to AP in the new patch.
Paragon Reputations
When you turn in a Paragon Reputation quest, you earn a nice chunk of AP. You can stockpile reputation up to 19,999/10,000, and then on patch day you can fly around to all the Emissaries and collect that AP, and be 1 reputation point away from another turnin. The default UI doesn’t display your reputation beyond 10,000, but you can download an addon like
Paragon Reputation
to track your progress.
It’s worth noting that the later into the patch you delay future turnins of this quest, the more effective they’ll be, since Artifact Knowledge is returning and making AP earned in later resets worth more than that earned earlier in the patch. It’s also important to know that the AP comes from turning in the Paragon quest to the Emissary,
NOT
from the Paragon Box itself. There is no benefit to coming into the patch with these boxes in your inventory.
Island Missions
When you earn 36,000 Azerite from Islands each week, you’ll earn a
Карта сокровищ
. Two weeks before the patch, you should do this, then the day or two before the patch, you should use this item to add the mission to your table. The mission will last for three days, which means you can wait to start it until the patch has hit. In the meantime, still before the patch, you can again earn your weekly Azerite reward, and pick up another Map, which you can use after you send out the previous mission (during Patch 8.3). By doing this, you can effectively stockpile two lucrative missions that may reward AP or
Пыль титанов
.
Item Stockpiling
Пыль титанов
In previous Patches, you've been able to make some progress towards Azerite upgrades by hoarding Residuum. In Patch 8.3,
this will not work
- all existing
Residuum is going to disappear
, and Azerite earned before 8.3 will not yield any when scrapped. You will receive a small gold payout based on the amount of Residuum you had, but the amount is small enough that if there's any pieces you might want to play with this patch, you should just buy them and use them until the patch hits.
Island Expedition Items
If you’re gonna be farming Islands at the start of next patch, you may want
Кроличий талисман
and/or
Отвар огненных вспышек
to make those runs faster and easier. These items are available from vendors on the Islands themselves, but are on a weekly rotation, so you may not be able to buy them when you actually want to use them at the start of the patch.
To get around this, you can stock up on them before the patch, whenever they’re on the Island vendors. To get around the limit on how many you can carry, you can use the fact that they’re Bind on Account and mail a bunch to an alt - then when the patch hits you can return them to your main.
If you’d like to automate this process and not perform hundreds of clicks to stock up, you can use these macros:
To buy
Кроличий талисман
while talking to the vendor:
/run MailFrameTab_OnClick(MailFrame,1)
/script SelectGossipOption(1)
/run BuyMerchantItem(1,5)
/click StaticPopup1Button1
/run SendMailMailButton:Click()
To buy
Отвар огненных вспышек
:
/run MailFrameTab_OnClick(MailFrame,1)
/script SelectGossipOption(1)
/run BuyMerchantItem(1,3)
/click StaticPopup1Button1
/run SendMailMailButton:Click()
To send the items to your other character (change the item name and character name as needed)
/run MailFrameTab_OnClick(MailFrame,2)
/run for b=0,4 do for s=0,36 do I=GetContainerItemLink(b,s) if I and I:find("Rabbit's Charm")then UseContainerItem(b,s) end end end SendMailNameEditBox:SetText("characternamehere")
/run SendMailMailButton:Click()
Profession Materials
If you’re interested in using Professions to craft items up to ilvl 470 next patch, you may want to gather the materials required now! All professions will use the same materials next patch as they do this patch, so things like
Зин'антария
,
Осменитовая руда
, and
Провидческий агат
will continue to be valuable, and may rise dramatically in price when the patch hits, or even before then as people foresee needing them. Another notable reagent for crafting is
Дистиллиум
, which you’ll need in larger quantities than ever before, if your goal is to create 470 items. You can start gathering this now by scrapping rather than vendoring gear you don’t need, especially Trinkets, as they yield Expulsom 100% of the time when scrapped.
Augment Runes
There’s a
Infinite Augment Rune
coming in Patch 8.3! It will require 50,000 gold, and you’ll need to reach Exalted with a new faction, so it won’t be around for the first few weeks of the patch. If you plan to buy it, you should probably sell any
Побывавшая в битве руна усиления
that you don’t foresee needing in the first few weeks of the patch, as their value will likely decrease once people start having the infinite version.
Limited-Time Achievements
The PvE Achievements
На кромке лезвия: королева Азшара
,
Герой своего времени: королева Азшара
,
Ключник-завоеватель Battle for Azeroth 3-го сезона
, and
Мастер ключей Battle for Azeroth 3-го сезона
are all going away. On the PvP side, time is also running out to earn
Протодракон отъявленного гладиатора
and
Норовистый боевой василиск
, as well as the
Elite PvP Transmog Sets
.
Pet Battle Dungeon
Blackrock Depths will be opening as a Pet Battle Dungeon next patch
, and it offers some unique cosmetic rewards, new Battle Pets, and even the ability to teleport directly to Blackrock Depths. If you're interested in taking on this challenge, you'll need to have first completed the other four Pet Battle Dungeons currently in the game:
Deadmines
,
Wailing Caverns
,
Stratholme
, and
Gnomeregan
.
Legendary Transmog!
In Visions of N’Zoth, players will finally be able to
transmog Legendary Weapons and Armor!
If there are any Legendaries you'd like to wield, now is the time to earn them. Here are some of the most iconic Legendaries and how to acquire them, but check out
the full list
.
Темная Скорбь
for Death Kinights, Paladins, and Warriors: An
Epic Questline
featuring many months of clearing Icecrown Citadel.
Тори'дал, Звездная Ярость
for Hunters: Random drop from
Кил'джеден
in the Sunwell Plateau.
Голад, Сумрак Аспектов
for Rogues: Wrathion, who coincidentally features heavily in the upcoming Patch, will send you through a
series of quests in and around the Dragon Soul raid
.
Вал'анир, молот древних королей
: The pieces for this drop in
Ульдуар
, and can only be combined by classes that have a Healing spec, though notably the transmog can currently be used on any character on your account that can wield One-Handed Maces!
Громовая Ярость, благословенный клинок Искателя Ветра
: Just ask in Trade chat, most players there are fully versed in the lore of this powerful One-Handed Sword.
