Warcraft Logs Companion App - Upload and Analyze Combat Reports in Game

Dungeon and Raid combat analysis website Warcraft Logs has released a brand new feature which allows players to upload and view combat logs completely in game! The
Warcraft Logs Companion app
uses the Overwolf platform to create an in-game overlay allowing players to navigate Warcraft Logs the same way they would on the web, with full support for live logging, viewing reports, and analyzing wipes without ever tabbing out of WoW.
Please be aware that this is
not a World of Warcraft interface addon and requires Overwolf
to function, it is a separate application which integrates with the game via an in-game overlay. Overworlf, who
purchased Curseforge from Twitch
and released a new
Addon Management app
last year, has been the subject of divisive views within the community, as their
pledge to increase addon author earnings
has been met with criticisms of data gathering.

Players familiar with the standalone uploader and web version of Warcraft Logs shouldn't have any trouble adapting to the companion, as it functions near identically to the webpage you're used to. The interface widget is slightly different, but everything is clearly labelled and intuitive. For anyone new to Warcraft Logs, there's an
extensive help page
with further instructions.
While players can continue to use the web-based version of Warcraft Logs without any change, this companion app has a few additional features aside from in-game integration.
The
Call a Wipe
hotkey creates a marker in the report and reports can be filtered to only look at events before or after the call, such as ignoring intentional deaths after the fact.
Players using Group Finder will notice an alert on the
Characters
button whenever someone applies to join their group, and opening the tab will allow them to easily lookup and review the Warcraft Logs stats on that applicant.
While anyone using two monitors probably doesn't have an issue tabbing out of WoW to look at logs, this overlay is very nice for those who only use one monitor or even players using that monitor for something else. For example, you could pull up your own groups logs in the overlay, while having another log open or piece of reference material on your second monitor for easier comparison - there are many ways players could find this useful. The Overwolf requirement may be a point of contention for some, but there is no requirement to use the companion app, as the website version of Warcraft Logs will continue to be available without change. Either way, it's still very nice to see more convenient in-game integration of popular tools for those who want to use them.
