Speedrunning Torghast: Layer 8
A couple Torghast: Layer 8 runs have been accepted on the WoW Torghast category on speedrun.com, with some insane clear times! Besides having a recording of the entire run to prove it has been done correctly, with time tracking software such as
LiveSplit
, there are a few specific rules that Torghast speedruns need to follow to be accepted on Speedrun.com:
Timing starts at the first movement in the instance.
Timing ends at the moment the health of the final boss has reached "0".
Need to show it's layer 8 by either showing the queue pop up or the chat message showing you queued for layer 8.
Floor skipping glitches are not allowed.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the fastest recorded Layer 8 speedrun has been done by
smalldough
, a Demon Hunter. Smalldough completed an entire Layer 8 run in
4 minutes, 50 seconds, and 086 milliseconds
! Smalldough's wing of choice for this run was
The Upper Reaches
, and his strategy involves using speed items like

to rush through the first floor of Layer 8, as well as a lucky Anima Power pick-up with

a 1 second recharge time for the next minute and a half. Smalldough ran through a combat bug at Floor 5, not allowing him to use his Radinax rush, so this run has the potential to be even faster!
Smalldough picks very few Anima Powers through the run, only picking up the one free Anima Orb at the beginning of the run, as well as the Anima Orbs dropped by bosses at the end of each run, quickly selecting powers while he transitions to the next floor. You can watch his recent record below:
However, not only Demon Hunters have been speedrunning Torghast.
Chaoswithin
has done Layer 8 as a Hunter in
4 minutes, 56 seconds and 420 milliseconds
! Chaoswithin uses a similar tactic with the

to evade all enemies and bursting the floor's boss. In Floor 5, Chaoswithin lands on a gauntlet floor that makes using the Cracked Radinax Gem harder to use, so he instead uses

ran a Layer 8 on a Druid in

, stealthing through enemies and even stopping to purchase Anima Powers on broker floors along the way!
Currently there aren't many runs catalogued at speedrun.com, but insane times can be reached by a good portion of classes while employing many different strategies. More strategies involving different classes are likely to be discovered in the future, with all these runs having potential for even shortened times!
