Today we will take a look at the DPS balance in Sepulcher of the First Ones during the week of April 5th of Shadowlands Season 3. For this analysis we will use data provided by
Warcraft Logs Mythic Sepulcher of the First Ones statistics
.
Warcraft Logs' Sepulcher of the First Ones Statistics Page
Disclaimers and Source
The data for this article was taken from the
Sepulcher of the First Ones Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
for Mythic difficulty in the week of April 5th. We will be looking at data for the 95th percentile, plus showing the overall results to paint a better picture.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the current state of class balance for Season 3, meaning this is an
incomplete picture of season 3 balance, as tier set acquisition can drastically change these numbers week by week
.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
Position of specs for the 95th percentile might be skewed by alternative strategies and parse funneling. For that, we're including the chart showing the result for all percentiles to paint a better picture for all specs.

Class Writer Commentary
To help understand better what the statistics mean currently, we invited our Destruction Warlock and Subtlety Rogue class writers to talk more about the state of their specs in Season 3 and what the future holds for their specs in Sepulcher of the First Ones.
Destruction Warlock
Destruction Warlock in Mythic Sepulcher of the First ones
Destruction has been performing very well over the last two weeks, and this is a result of the buff we received 2 weeks ago:
Destruction
All damage increased by 5%.
In this article, I am going to cover just why a simple aura buff made one of the lowest parsing specs become one of the highest parsing specs, and if it was really this aura buff that made Destruction as hot of a topic as it is currently.
Firstly, it's important to know Destruction was never that far behind Demonology in raids, which is arguably the strongest DPS spec in the raid currently. But the use of
Придание сил
on a Demonology Warlock was such a huge value, that Demonology ended up being a significant amount ahead of the competition. Demonology also received a nerf to the
Демоническое поглощение
talent which went from 15 -> 12%. Totaling a 4.5% DPS decrease for Demonology.
Destruction has historically excelled very well at the same few things, and this is to a varying degree still true today. These things are:
Being able to pool up resources and then deal a large portion of our damage in a small burst window into a priority target. This is still true to some degree, but as the damage of
Стрела Хаоса
on its own isn't very big, this is not as much the case right now as it has been. But we are still able to play around this by combining it with a few buffers such as
Безумие Аз'Акира
+
Искоренение
.
Very strong multi target cleave through
Хаос
.
Very strong AoE burst during
Призыв инфернала
. This is more true now than ever with the combination of the 4-set bonus
Аватара разрушения
and the talents
Ливень Хаоса
+
Преисподняя
+
Посредник душ
. This setup allows you to, if there's enough targets, spam
Огненный ливень
more or less every global.
Historically speaking, some of the weak points Destruction has had are:
Weak single target damage. This has always been an issue caused inadvertently because of
Хаос
cleave. If Destruction was too strong on single target, it would be out of control on multiple targets as it would be able to just duplicate its damage.
This is no longer the case, as the setup Destruction is currently running includes enough damage increase buffers to
Стрела Хаоса
making Destruction a very heavy hitter on single target. This setup consists of:
The Legendary
Безумие Аз'Акира
- Increasing the damage of
Стрела Хаоса
cast within 4 seconds of each other, making
Стрела Хаоса
hit much harder. This is an excellent buff to Destructions single target on its own, as long as you're able to benefit from this bonus
The talent setup:
Искоренение
Ливень Хаоса
Посредник душ
The 2 and 4-set bonuses offered for Destruction Warlocks in Sepulcher of the First ones.
Shroud of the Demon Star
2-Set
-
Ритуал разрушения
- Every 10 Soul Shards spent grants Ritual of Ruin, making your next
Стрела Хаоса
or
Огненный ливень
consume no shards and have no cast time.
4-Set
-
Аватара разрушения
- When
Стрела Хаоса
or
Огненный ливень
consumes a charge of Ritual of Ruin, you summon a Blasphemy for 8 seconds.
Destruction has for a long time been a burst-oriented spec, meaning it deals the vast majority of its damage during its major cooldown
Призыв инфернала
. And while this is still true, we also deal a significant amount of damage outside this. Furthermore, you can time your 4-set procs
Аватара разрушения
by delaying this slightly, meaning you will have more damage for important priority targets or vital parts of an encounter. A good example of this is the Anduin Wrynn encounter. If you're assigned to enter the
Королевская Скорбь жаждет крови
realm, you can make sure you have soul shards as well as a
Аватара разрушения
ready prior. This means, that even though you don't save your big cooldowns, you will still be able to contribute a significant amount of damage.
Conclusion
Destruction is currently a very strong competitor for a DPS spot in Mythic Sepulcher, especially after the 5% damage increase. One of the weak points of Destruction is the lack of movement, but that's just about it. Destruction is able to fulfill multiple different damage profiled depending on what's needed. The toolkit available with various legendaries and covenants makes Destruction able to fit many different encounters, just by swapping out a few things. Its likely Demonology might still parse slightly higher on some encounters, but Destruction is not as reliant on external factors in order to deal its full damage. We're able to deal large amounts of damage on a much more flexible time schedule than Demonology, making Destruction an even more attractive contender for a DPS spot.
Subtlety Rogue
The Warcraft Logs mythic statistic is currently slightly misleading for the evaluation of overall performance. The main reason for this is that the statistic is incomplete. The site only captures the first seven bosses due to a lack of public logs on
Андуин Ринн
and the following fights. This works to the advantage of the specialization but will lead to a lower position once more fights get included.
Subtlety rogue specifically can shine on at least six of this fights in the statistic and is a strong choice especially in progression. The signature fight
Галондрий
is one of the harder fights of the raid, and subtlety is probably the strongest choice on it. This is a consequence of a boss specific design that makes auto attacks not miss and leads to an increase in combo point and energy income from
Теневая техника
, which leads to a higher amount of cooldown reduction on the signature cooldown
Танец теней
and also to more tier set procs of the two and four set piece,
Бессмертная техника
and
Бессмертная техника
.
Шаг сквозь тень
, the teleportation from
Удар Тьмы
when combined with
Исчезновение
as well as
Плащ теней
can dramatically reduce healing requirements on fights like
Даусинь
. Some of the fights that are not on the statistic yet are also very good for Subtlety rogues like
Тюремщик
as well as
Ригелон
.
However, this leads to a question about the bad fights. The three fights Subtlety rogue is bad on are
Прототип Войны
,
Андуин Ринн
and
Мал'Ганис
.
Прототип Войны
was initially a good fight for Subtlety because Necrotic Ritualists caused a big thread and allowing rogues to focus on killing them fast would make progression easier, but with growing power from gear, it became something easy to handle. For
Андуин Ринн
the main problem comes down to cooldowns, the class does not have strong enough cooldowns to utilized the intermission phase well. Rogue can still be one of the stronger classes for boss damage, but the class as a whole is most of the time one that would be considered to be replaced on this fight. Lords of Dread has a similar issue, but is also a two target fight on top of this. Two target cleave is the worst case scenario for Subtlety and given the, compared to other classes, low amount of burst during the damage swarm phases, might make the specialization not desirable.
In terms of Warcraft Logs statistics, future placement of the spec will depend on how fights like
Андуин Ринн
will be weighted on the overall statistic and specifically Subtlety rogue is likely to drop down some positions in the long run.
Overall I think Rogue is in one of the best positions since a long time, but still has certain shortcomings in the current raid. I encourage everyone to test it out as it is a lot of fun and also brings good survivability tools outside of pure damage output.
