Patch 9.2 of the Shadowlands sees us heading to the new realm of Zereth Mortis, where we will learn all sorts of things about the First Ones and the nature of the Shadowlands itself, while preparing to face the Jailer in the Sepulcher of the First Ones, Patch 9.2's raid. But how did we get here? What is the story so far?
Prepatch & Introduction
Pre-Patch
In the Shadowlands cinematic trailer, Sylvanas Windrunner made a move many had been dreading for a long time - she attacked the Lich King, Highlord Bolvar Fordragon - and took the Helm of Domination from him. Then she did something surprising. Instead of placing the helm on her own head, she tore it apart - and in doing so, tore a rift through reality itself, opening the way from the mortal realm of Azeroth into the Shadowlands, the realm of Death.
But the story of the Shadowlands really began when Sylvanas, now working with her new mysterious allies in the Shadowlands, sent powerful winged creatures to kidnap some of Azeroth's most renowned heroes and leaders: Lady Jaina Proudmoore, Baine Bloodhoof, Thrall, and Anduin Wrynn - along with a failed attempted kidnapping of Tyrande Whisperwind.
The Shadowlands pre-patch saw us dealing with the aftermath of these events - now that Bolvar no longer wore the Helm of Domination, he could no longer keep the Scourge in check, and they began to run rampant all over Azeroth.
In the panic and chaos that followed, Taelia Fordragon learned for the first time that her father, Bolvar, had not died in Icecrown as she had always been told, but that he had become the Lich King. The way she learned this bombshell of information was... less than ideal. Mathias Shaw, spymaster and leader of SI:7, Stormwind's secret service, let it slip by accident.
Shandris Feathermoon says: These abductions... the Scourge attacks... the Banshee will pay for what she's done. By Elune's fury, we will bring her to justice!
Taelia Fordragon says: Right now, I don't give a damn about justice. I just want to find where she's taken our friends. King Greymane, what's the plan?
Genn Greymane says: We'll get them back, Taelia. I swear to you, we'll save them all.
Master Mathias Shaw says: The Ebon Blade has extracted the Lich... the Highlord from the battle in Icecrown. He is recovering in Acherus.
Genn Greymane says: I pray he can help us find answers. Without that cursed helm, the Scourge are running rampant.
Genn Greymane says: We'll need the help of the Argent Crusade to stem the tide of undead.
Master Mathias Shaw says: If anyone can figure out how this all fits together, it's Bolvar.
Taelia Fordragon says: Did you say... Bolvar? Bolvar Fordragon? That's my father...is he alive?!
Genn Greymane says: Taelia, I... will explain. But we can't afford to let our guard down. Not with so much at stake.
It was also at this time that we faced Nathanos Blightcaller, Sylvanas's champion, at his old homestead in the Eastern Plaguelands. In this fight, Tyrande Whisperwind arrived to take the killing blow. Though his soul should have journeyed to the Shadowlands after this, and though it was clear that he believed he would be reunited with Sylvanas soon, Nathanos has not been seen since.

Introduction Quests
By the introduction to the Shadowlands, we had chosen to follow Sylvanas, with the intention of finding and rescuing our kidnapped leaders. Using the shards of the shattered Helm of Domination, we opened a portal of our own, traveling through to the Maw - Tyrande Whisperwind jumping in as well before leaving on her own mission to find - and, she hoped, kill - Sylvanas.
At first, the mission went fairly well. We found our kidnapped leaders, we found that Helya, like Sylvanas, had allied herself with this realm, and we caught our first sight of the Jailer.
Unfortunately, though we managed to escape the Maw after an ancient Waystone - long-dormant - activated in our presence, we left our leaders behind. While we arrived in the strange city of Oribos, Jaina, Thrall, Anduin, and Baine were still at the Jailer's mercy in the Maw.
In Oribos, we soon learned that the Shadowlands was dealing with a problem of its own - ever since the Arbiter, who used to judge all souls and sent them to the afterlives they deserved, was mysteriously broken. As a result, all souls have been journeying straight to the Maw - a place of eternal torture that was only ever meant for the most irredeemable of souls.
Since then, the Shadowlands have been suffering from a serious drought. The realms usually rely on the resource of anima - provided by mortal souls - but now, with no souls coming into the realms since the catastrophe, the anima had all but dried up.
Still determined to rescue our leaders, we described the winged creatures that took them to the Keepers of Oribos. They thought it perhaps sounded a little like Kyrian Ascended, and sent us to Bastion, where we might learn more.
Maw Introduction to the Shadowlands
Original Zone Stories
Bastion
In Bastion, we met the Kyrian and learned about their Path. An afterlife for souls who lived a life of service and sacrifice, new Kyrian were expected to cleanse themselves of their mortal memories so that they could Ascend - gaining wings - and perform their new duties of ferrying mortal souls to the afterlife.
Not all Kyrian seemed happy, however, and we learned of the Forsworn, fallen Kyrian who questioned the Path and had begun a rebellion against the Archon, Bastion's leader. One of these Forsworn, we soon learned, was none other than Uther Lightbringer - teacher and mentor to Arthas Menethil, who died by his blade.
It became apparent that the winged creatures we had seen were fallen Kyrian who had aligned themselves with the Jailer - becoming Mawsworn - a terrible and worrying development.
More worrying still, Bastion was attacked by Maldraxxus, an unprecedented act of aggression that went against everything the zone - tasked with the sacred duty of protecting the Shadowlands - was meant to stand for. These attacking Maldraxxi forces were also clearly working with the Jailer, and so we journeyed to Maldraxxus try find out more.
The Story of Bastion
Maldraxxus
We found Maldraxxus in the middle of a civil war. Once divided up into five Great Houses and ruled over by a powerful being called the Primus, chaos had followed soon after the Primus mysteriously disappeared. Two out of the Five Houses had already fallen, and a third, the House of the Chosen, was desperately fighting for survival against the treacherous houses of Constructs and Rituals - who had been behind the Bastion attack.
Once again, we met someone familiar from Azeroth. Draka, Thrall's mother, who died protecting him, and who was now a Baroness of the House of the Chosen.
Soon after our arrival, we helped discover an ancient Runeblade - which turned out to be a key to the Seat of the Primus - a place of great power that had been sealed since the Primus's disappearance. We met another old "friend" - Lady Vashj, now Baroness Vashj. And when the leader of the House of the Chosen was killed in an attack, we went to the Maw to find and bring back their lost Baron.
To this end, Highlord Darion Mograine of the Knights of the Ebon Blade offered us assistance, and was astonished when we discovered who the missing Maldraxxi Baron was - his own father, Highlord Alexandros Mograine.
Alexandros had dire news - the House of the Chosen had been betrayed from within, by a Baron who had allied with the Jailer. Though we confronted Baron Vyraz, he escaped. We, however, managed to finally get into the Seat of the Primus, where we found the Primus himself had left behind a message - a warning about the Jailer, for all the leaders of the Shadowlands.
The Jailer, Zovaal, was trying to gain access to the Sepulcher of the First Ones. And it was imperative that we stop him.
Voice of the Primus says: I am the Primus. Your presence within my sanctum means a darkness has fallen upon Maldraxxus... and all the realms of Death.
Voice of the Primus says: Ages ago, the Eternal Ones punished our brother Zovaal for his treachery. He was bound within the inescapable Maw, to be forever its Jailer.
Voice of the Primus says: Now I fear that Zovaal did not act alone. I suspect he had ancient allies... and will seek to win others to his cause.
Voice of the Primus says: That you are hearing this message means my suspicions proved true. Zovaal has forged his chains into a weapon... and brought about my defeat.
Voice of the Primus says: There is but one hope to save the Shadowlands. The Eternal Ones must stand together once more, before the Jailer escapes the Maw.
Voice of the Primus says: Bring my warning to the Archon, the Winter Queen, and the Sire. They must see to our defenses. Do not let Zovaal reach the sepulcher.
Voice of the Primus says: The Arbiter is the final key. Protect her, or all is lost.
The Story of Maldraxxus
Ardenweald
As requested, we carried the Primus's message to the forest zone of Ardenweald - but it was not that easy to deliver. The Winter Queen, her realm withering and dying around her, was at first too busy trying to save as much as she could to grant us an audience. In an attempt to lessen her burdens, we tried to help out in the realm - seeing first-hand the devastating effects of the drought. Entire groves were dying.
We learned that Ardenweald is the realm that Wild Gods, among others with strong connections to nature, go to when they die - to rest and be reborn - but that the drought meant heartbreaking sacrifices had to sometimes be made. In one story, we learned how the Wild God Ursoc was sacrificed, so that the anima his soul could offer could be used to hold off the total destruction of Ardenweald just a little longer.
We encountered a very special Wildseed - one that bonded with us - and soon realized it was Ysera, once leader of the Green Dragonflight, who died tragically during the events of Legion.
Ysera's wildseed was badly wounded during a Drust attack, and when we finally got our audience with the Winter Queen, we begged her to intervene - as without precious anima, Ysera would die forever.
At first, the Winter Queen seemed reluctant, calling Ysera her "sister's pet", but the pleas of subjects seemed to move her, and she showed how truly caring she could be when she sacrificed some of her own anima to save the seed.
Afterwards, she showed us how the Heart of the Forest, which was designed to help protect the Shadowlands, had withered - leaving Ardenweald and all of the Shadowlands vulnerable. If there was any hope for a defense from the Jailer, the Heart would need anima - and soon. Sire Denathrius of Revendreth was the most gifted of the Shadowlands leaders at extracting anima, and so the Winter Queen sent us to speak with him.
The Story of Ardenweald
Revendreth
Within Revendreth, we soon learned that its denizens, the Venthyr, are tasked with the most unrepentant of souls - providing them with a last, often painful chance at atonement before final sentencing to the Maw. And we found that this zone too was dealing with a rebellion.
Denathrius claimed to be more than willing to help us, but he would need our assistance in crushing the rebellion first. At first, we obliged, until the rebels managed to prove to us they were right - Sire Denathrius was corrupt. While the rest of Revendreth and, indeed, the Shadowlands starved, he was stockpiling anima.
We helped the rebellion establish a base, and rescue its leader from the Maw - Prince Renathal, Sire Denathrius's own son. Finally, we took part in an assault on Castle Nathria - where we learned the truth.
Not only was Sire Denathrius stockpiling anima, he was sending it directly to his ally - the Jailer - in the Maw.
The Story of Revendreth
Covenant Questlines
Not only did the Jailer have a plan to escape the Maw and find a way to gain access to the Sepulcher of the First Ones, he was well on his way to accomplishing his goal. Deeply concerned about the threat ahead, the denizens of Oribos implored us to join a Covenant and help the Shadowlands to regain its strength in preparation for the looming battle ahead. Which we did.
Kyrian
Kyrian players helped Bastion cope with the many changes disrupting the usually strict and traditional Path. We learned that many Kyrain did not know about the disruption to the Arbiter - or that souls were now going directly to the Maw. When a Forsworn attack destroyed the Crest of Ascension - an artifact the Kyrian used to create new Ascended - we helped repair the Crest, collecting powerful artifacts from the other realms of the Shadowlands for this purpose.
Kryain players also saw the relationships repaired between the Kyrian and the Necrolords, helping with a combined assault against the House of Constructs - the Maldraxxi house directly behind the attack on Bastion. Players even helped rescue Uther from his own former allies, who were working under Helya's command, and learned that not all Forsworn knew they were working for the Jailer. By the end of the campaign, the major Maw-backed Forsworn threat had been dealt with.
The Story of the Kyrian
Necrolords
For Necrolords, the major concern was seeing an end to the civil war. We helped restore the relationship between Maldraxxus and Bastion when we launched a combined assault on the House of Constructs - making up for the attack on Bastion by bringing justice to the House that was behind it. We also help the Venthyr of Revendreth shut down Maldraxxi operations in their own realm - where we discovered Kel'Thuzad's involvement, along with the information that he was working with the Jailer.
We infiltrated the House of Rituals, learning that Kel'Thuzad's manipulations were, indeed, behind most of their treachery. When he organized a coup and deposed Margrave Sin'dane, the Necrolords - together with the Venthyr - assaulted the House of Rituals and restored the fallen Margrave to her position, earning her trust and ultimately ending the Maldraxxi civil war.
The Story of the Necrolords
Night Fae
More than any other covenant, Night Fae players did the most to help the souls in the Maw. When Shandris Feathermoon needed help searching for her adopted mother, Tyrande Whisperwind, we joined her. We found Tyrande, and though we were not able to convince her to give up her mission of revenge, we were able to find and rescue many of the Night Elf souls of those who died in the Burning of Teldrassil.
Still determined to find a way to help Tyrande, we met with a former Night Warrior whose soul now lay in Ardenweald, and learned that he died when he was consumed by the Night Warrior power. We also learned of a ritual that may help Tyrande avoid the same fate - by sharing the Night Warrior power among multiple souls - and sent Huln Highmountain to track down as many other former Night Warriors as he could find in the Shadowlands.
We found an unusual ally in Bwonsamdi, the death loa, when he arrived in Ardenweald to warn us of the presence of his own former mentor - Mueh'zala - who was after the souls of certain Wild Gods. We discovered Mueh'zala was working with the Jailer, and that it was his whisper that told Vol'jin to name Sylvanas Warchief when he was dying.
Finally, we helped defend Ardenweald from the Drust - who were taking advantage of the realm's weakness, seeing it as an opportunity to invade.
The Story of the Night Fae
Venthyr
For Venthyr players, the major task was to try build the rebellion's strength and support. To this end, we soon discovered more than diplomacy would be needed. When Sire Denathrius organized Revendreth, he established the Court of Harvesters, seven nobles who were each gifted a portion of his power in the form of a special medallion. Throughout the Venthyr campaign, players helped Prince Renathal regain these medallions until the Venthyr held six of the seven - the final medallion was in possession of the Stonewright, who we could not yet convince to join our cause. We also visited Bastion, where the Steward Mikanikos helped us create the Crown of Harvesters - which would allow a single Venthyr to wield all seven medallions at once, a previously impossible task.
We also learned a little of the Venthyr way, helping the Accuser with the seemingly impossible task of leading Kael'thas Sunstrider down the path of redemption. We helped eliminate a Maldraxxi threat in Revendreth - and when we learned of Kel'Thuzad's involvement with both the Jailer and the Maldraxxi House of Rituals, we joined forces with the Necrolords to free the House of Rituals from Kel'Thuzad's grasp.
The Story of the Venthyr
Castle Nathria
Once Sire Denathrius's treachery had been established, all Covenants banded together to assault Castle Nathria, Shadowlands's opening raid, to forcibly remove him from his seat of power. The raid was successful, but as Sire Denathrius fell, his sword - Remornia - preserved his soul within her blade.
The Venthyr took the sword, Denathrius within, and with the help of a Naaru that they had rescued from Castle Nathria's dungeons, imprisoned the Sire at the top of a tower.
The Story of Castle Nathria
Torghast & The Maw
Whatever Covenant players chose, one of the first things they were asked to do was venture into Torghast and the Maw, to rescue souls that could help empower our Covenants, and also to find and rescue our lost leaders.
Torghast
Taelia Fordragon, now aware of her father's fate, decided to travel to Oribos and ask her Bolvar to use any means to find our lost allies. Though hesitant at first, Bolvar eventually used his connection to Sylvanas through the broken Helm of Domination to peer into Torghast, witnessing a vision of Jaina and Thrall's screams as they were tortured within the Jailer's tower.
Later, we ventured into this Tower ourselves, where we found and rescued Baine, then Jaina, then Thrall. We also found the mysterious Runecarver, bound by the Jailer's chains, who helped us create legendary items to massively empower ourselves.
As for Anduin, we learned that the Jailer and Sylvanas had something special planned for him. And we witnessed Sylvanas attempting to convince the Jailer to allow her to try bring Anduin to their side willingly.
Anduin, we were not able to find and rescue. But we did witness a vision of Sylvanas's unsuccessful attempting to convert him, thanks once again to Bolvar's connection through the broken Helm.
Finally, once we defeated Sire Denathrius in Castle Nathria, the Jailer lost patience with waiting and commanded Anduin be Dominated by force. Though this task fell to Sylvanas, it did seem, for at least a moment, that she was unsure about going through with it.
The Story of Torghast
The Maw
For the most part, our time in the Maw revolved around Ve'nari, a Broker who helped us while searching for Alexandros Mograine. In exchange for valuable Stygia, Ve'nari helped us slowly unlock and gain access to more and more dangerous areas of the Maw, as well as offering us the only sanctuary in the Jailer's zone.
The Story of Ve'nari
Patch 9.1 - Chains of Domination
Tazavesh, the Veiled Market
We learned a little more about the Jailer's destination, the Sepulcher of the First Ones, in the dungeon Tazavesh, a Broker market. Here, we helped stop a power-hungry Broker from using the tools of the First Ones - which she would be able to use to unmake the world.
The Story of Tazavesh, the Veiled Market
Most interestingly, we found certain notes on the Sepulcher of the First Ones within this market, written by a banished Broker known as "Al'firim'.
Tazavesh Lore Book Speculation - Part 1 Tazavesh Lore Book Speculation - Part 2
Chains of Domination - Main Story
Still intent in his plan to access the Sepulcher of the First Ones, the Jailer needed five sigils. Here, we finally found out what he wanted Anduin for - he needed someone who would be able to help steal the Archon's sigil for him.
We learned that five sigils were objects of great importance that were granted to the Eternal Ones long ago. As each Eternal One was tasked with leading a Covenant in the Shadowlands, the sigil they were given signified that Covenant's purpose. Zovaal, however, realized that the five sigils used together could work as a key to sacred yet forbidden knowledge, and wished to use them for this. The other Eternal Ones refused, and when he tried to claim their sigils by force, they sentenced him to his banishment in the Maw.
Though banished, Zovaal did not give up. Denathrius's betrayal had already provided him with the sigil of Revendreth, and now, thanks to Anduin, he had the sigil of Bastion.
Once we realized the Jailer's plan, we turned our efforts to protecting the rest of the sigils. In the Battle for Ardenweald, we helped fight against a Mawsworn attack - one that lead to a confrontation between Sylvanas and Tyrande. For the first time, we realized that Sylvanas didn't know where Nathanos was either - in fact, it seemed like she didn't even know he was dead.
Tyrande offered her life for the power to defeat Sylvanas, and though she seemed like she would finally achieve victory, the power of the Night Warrior faded from her at the last minute - and Tyrande herself fell unconscious.
As for the Winter Queen's sigil, it quickly became apparent that Sylvanas was only being used as a distraction. Anduin Wrynn was the one to steal the sigil.
Having learned the Jailer had pulled a new realm into the Maw, it was decided that we would take the fight to the Maw ourselves - our Covenants much bolstered by now by our efforts. With the help of Ve'nari, we found a way into this new area of Korthia - where another Waystone reacted to our presence, allowing us to create a portal to Oribos, and we established a base.
As part of our assault on the Maw, we helped rescue some golden Val'kyr of Odyn's - who were being used by Helya in a ritual to resurrect and empower Sylvanas's own nine Val'kyr. The Val'kyr we rescued, in turn, helped us defeat the Eye of the Jailer - finally closing a chapter that was started long ago.
As the Kyrian themselves noticed, Odyn's Val'kyr look very similar to Kyrian Ascended. This is because, long ago, Odyn sacrificed his eye for a glimpse into the Shadowlands. It was, in fact, Mueh'zala who made this deal with Odyn - and Odyn's eye was used to create the powerful Eye of the Jailer. Odyn, meanwhile, inspired by what he saw of Bastion, created his own realm in its image.
Soon enough, the reason for the Jailer's interest in Korthia became clear. It was here where the Primus hid his sigil before he disappeared. After discovering the sigil ourselves, we found it tangled up with magic similar to the magic we'd seen the Runecarver use. At Bolvar's suggestion, we took the sigil into Torghast to ask the Runecarver if he knew any more.
This was, on the whole, a mistake. Though the sigil activated the Runecarver's memory, releasing him and revealing him to be the Primus himself, the Jailer quickly arrived with Anduin and took the sigil by force.
At this point, perhaps mildly unimpressed with our leadership so far, the Primus traveled to Korthia and took command of our forces. We turned our attention to Desmotaeron, the area outside the entrance to the Sanctum of Domination - the Jailer's own inner sanctum - at the time held by Helya and Baron Vyraz. We killed Vyraz, and the Primus banished Heyla - she has not been seen since.
Draka and Thrall took a major role in this mission, and the mother and son were finally able to bond.
Baroness Draka says: I knew who you were the moment I saw you. Do you really think I wouldn't recognize Durotan's eyes?
Baroness Draka says: You were but a babe when I died. Tell me, who have you grown to be?
Thrall says: I was once Warchief of the Horde, a shaman of the Earthen Ring--
Baroness Draka says: That is who you were. Who are you now?
Thrall says: I... am uncertain. Much has happened in my life. I do not know where it will lead next.
Baroness Draka says: A lesson, then. Not from mother to child, but from one similar soul to another. Remember who you were, but take pride in who you are.
Baroness Draka says: I once thought death was the end. But now, as a warrior of Maldraxxus, I see that it was only the beginning.
Baroness Draka says: It brings me joy to see how far you have come. And I know you have much farther to go.
Thrall says: Thank you... mother. I will make you proud.
Baroness Draka says: Come. I wish to know more of your life. All of it.
Afterwards, the Primus named Baroness Draka the new Margrave of the House of the Chosen - and a new sigil of Maldraxxus was formed.
Disastrously, we soon discovered our forces had been infiltrated with Dreadlords - and the conspiracy had gone deeper than we had known.
Dreadlords, we had already learned, were creations of Sire Denathrius, and remained loyal to him. It soon became clear that they had infiltrated Revendreth - and we got to witness a reunion between old allies Lady Vashj and Kael'thas Sunstrider while we worked to eliminate this threat. Unfortunately, we realized too late that the whole thing was a distraction. While we focused our attention on Mal'ganis, other Dreadlords assaulted the tower where Renathal was being kept and rescued him. Sire Denathrius has not been seen since.
For the Venthyr, one good thing came out of the whole ordeal. The Stonewright finally agreed to help Prince Renathal, and handed over her medallion - providing the Venthyr with the full power of the Court of Harvesters. With this power, the Venthyr were able to reforge the sigil of Revendreth.
After receiving an urgent letter from Ardenweald, we helped visit and recruit the former Night Warriors Huln had tracked down - Khaliiq of Maldraxxus, and the Stonewright of Revendreth. We performed the ritual to try share the power among the Night Warriors and rescue Tyrande, but it failed. Tyrande started to become overwhelmed with the power of Elune, attracting the Winter Queen - who arrived furious and demanding why she could feel her "sister".
This brought about several confirmations. First, Elune and the Winter Queen are sisters. When Ardenweald was hit by the drought, the Winter Queen called out to her sister for help. When the Burning of Teldrassil happened - Elune tried to direct the souls of the Night Elves to Ardenweald, but she did not know that she failed. The souls went to the Maw, leaving the Winter Queen feeling abandoned by her sister.
Finally getting this chance to talk, the sisters reconciled, and together, were able to create a new sigil of Ardenweald.
By Our Hand Cinematic Analysis - What's Going On With Elune?
After this encounter, Elune retreated, leaving Tyrande now cured of the Night Warrior curse. It is still unknown what is planned next for the Night Elf souls.
Shandris Feathermoon says: The Winter Queen spoke of a purpose for the souls of our people. What did she mean?
Tyrande Whisperwind says: That, Elune did not tell me, daughter. Not yet.
Next, we helped Uther reclaim the shard of his soul that was torn from him by Frostmourne - and learned about the way mourneblades can fracture souls in the process.
<Uther reaches toward the wound beneath his chestplate.>
When Arthas struck me down, Frostmourne shattered my soul. But it was not divided into one part that was noble and another that was cruel.
Rather, it was as if a portion of my consciousness remained frozen in time while the rest of my soul carried on.
To feel that missing fragment restored... well, it has caused me to reflect upon many of the choices I have made.
After seeing the importance of Uther's most painful memories, the Kyrian finally began to properly question the wisdom of forcing all on their Path to forget their mortal memories no matter what. For the first time, the Archon changed the Kyrian Path - no longer would Kyrian be expected to forget their mortal memories if that was not something they wished, and the Forsworn were invited to once again rejoin their former Covenant. As part of this new Path, new sigil of Bastion was formed.
The Story of Chains of Domination, Patch 9.1's Main Storyline
The Sanctum of Domination
The Sanctum of Domination, the location of patch 9.1's raid, was where the Jailer was said to keep his most prized prisoners. Here, we found many iconic and important enemies, including the last remnant of Ner'zhul, Sylvanas's Nine Val'kyr, Kel'Thuzad, and a still unrepentant Garrosh Hellscream.
Finally, we cornered and faced Sylvanas Windrunner herself, who held us off while the Jailer worked on his ultimate plan - to obtain the sigil of the Arbiter, the last sigil needed to open his way to the Sepulcher of the First Ones.
The Jailer was successful. The portal to his destination finally opened - he decided, first, he wanted to see us kneel. This was the final straw for Sylvanas. Though her discomfort with the Jailer's approach had been increasingly growing, she had stayed by his side - until now. Finally, it seemed that she was unable to deny the reality of his true intentions for one moment more.
After her defiance, the Jailer seemed to decide the best way to punish her was to leave her to us - returning the shard of her soul that he had stolen from her first.
Analysis of the Sylvanas Cinematic - Sanctum of Domination Raid Finale
Sylvanas fell unconscious, and we returned to the Primus in Korthia. To follow the Jailer to the realm of his destination - Zereth Mortis - we would need the same five sigils he used to open a portal. With the sigils of Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Revendreth already reformed, all that was left was the fifth and final sigil - the sigil of the Arbiter.
Since then, we have waited for the Primus's summons once again, to create a new sigil of the Arbiter and follow the Jailer into Patch 9.2.
