Gathering professions appear to reward around 60% less experience in
Shadowlands
, which is a severe blow to the neutral and pacifist levelers which depend on that experience in lieu of completing quests or killing mobs. Neutral leveling is an interesting phenomenon in which a Pandaren player makes it to max level without ever joining the Alliance or Horde faction or killing any enemy mobs, popularized by
DoubleAgent in 2014
who did so not only without joining a faction and completely pacifist - leveling through mining and herbalism without killing any mobs.
Not a whole lot of players engage in this style of gameplay, as it's an arduous challenge and a great deal slower than traditional leveling methods, taking upward 7-8 hours per level from gathering alone. Still, some players look to the task for personal prestige and bragging rights, with EU players

on Argent Dawn currently racing for first level 120 Neutral Pandaren. While following in the footsteps of DoubleAgent though, they've improved the process by taking advantage of pet battles and experience bonuses that didn't exist at the time.
Well as all neutral Pandaren my inspiration comes from Doubleagent. He did it the hard way. Mostly with mining and herbing with daily pet battles only very late in his leveling process. I saw that the Pandemia is trying to do the same but he's using the 100% bonus xp and things are going a lot faster so I decided to give it a try as well and if possible even to beat him up and becoming the first european neutral Pandaren at 120. Atm he have 11 levels more and each level is starting to take 7-8 hours of farming herbs and mines. The 5 daily pet battles gives about 1/3 of a level but we both do that so my only chance is to actually play double than him. The patch is also closing in and the xp buff will be removed. Heirloom's bonus xp will too be nerfed. I cheched the ptr and it seems that despise all this leveling the way we do will still be faster than it is atm. Anyway just wanted to let any ppl that might be interested know that there is a race for First EU Neutral Pandaren.
While there actually is at least one neutral level 120 in the EU,
Xihaô on Aegwynn
, the impact of these upcoming changes is no less significant to other players attempting the same goals. Chico is currently level 93, while Pandémia has reached level 100, but there's still quite a bit left to go before reaching level 120. It would seem that both intend on finishing before the upcoming
Shadowlands
changes make pre-patch leveling harder for them, though it will be interesting to see how effectively they can make it to level 60 after the expansion launches in earnest.
