Fan-made Allied Race Eye and Skin Color Customization Concept Art

While the
Shadowlands
Alpha has added a great deal of new customization for various races, including
boneless undead
,
scars, makeup
,
markings
, and even
ear size
, Redditor Silverleaf2520 has taken it upon themselves to come up with new fan-made
eye and skin color
concepts for the Void Elf, Lightforged Draenei, Nightborne, and Highmountain Tauren Allied Races.
Silverleaf has a history of brainstorming fun little customizations to the game, including Heritage armor color variations and even a
Hozen Allied Race
concept (poop flinging racial when?!), all of which can be found on Reddit. These most recent conceptualizations are particularly interesting, especially the two-tone elf skin colors and the Naga-like Azshara eyes. A few fellow Redditors even pitched in their own ideas, such as decay sliders for Death Knight skins and this awesome
Eredar-Draenei Demon Hunter
, made in our very own model viewer!
The fan-created Allied Race customization options are particularly fun to see, as
Ion Hazzikostas stated
in an interview that the 9.0 customization updates would primarily focus on the original races. This statement has raised several concerns, namely that Allied Race options are lacking next to the wide variety of 9.0 customization options (for example, Nightborne only having a handful of hair colors), and that Void Elves could have a High Elf option (similar to Dwarves now choosing their clan through new tattoo options).
For some more background on the eye color situation - eye color has been a hotly contested issue for some time now, as a blue eye color for Blood Elves was datamined early on, but
confirmed in an interview
to be only used by NPCs.
NPC only? Ion says yes, data says no...
Since then, there have been endless debates over the validity and lore implications of said options, further exacerbated by uncovering
blue eye colors for Void Elves
as well, which still differ in color from the traditional High Elf blue tint. These turquoise eyes for both Blood Elves and Void Elves
appeared in the data
as player customization options, able to be configured in the Dressing Room.
Also probably NPC only, but not yet confirmed
Whether you're a lore accurate purist or like the idea of expressing characters however you want, the additional customization discovered in
Shadowlands
unlocks a wealth of new options which can only be good for the game. Similar to the
upright Orc option
in
Battle for Azeroth
, removing visible
Undead bones
has been a long time request of fans, and it's very nice to see those options finally implemented, especially in such a hassle free way through the Barber Shop, rather than an exclusive race-specific option.
