Cypher of the First Ones is a research-based system coming in Patch 9.2, Eternity's End. This system improves outdoor experience in Zereth Mortis and can be very overwhelming at first sight, so we're detailing the steps you should take while first engaging with the system!

Why Should I Engage with the Cypher of the First Ones Systems?
The Cypher of the First Ones system is built to improve on player experience within Zereth Mortis (and with some researches, other outdoor Shadowlands zones as well). This system serves as a way to nerf of the zone over time. The Cypher of the Ones system includes things like temporary buffs, a mount and pet crafting system, and improvements to your Pocopoc friend.
This system grants NO player power
for instanced content like raids, dungeons or battlegrounds, so if you have no interest in doing many outdoor activities in Zereth Mortis or in the Shadowlands in general, you will be able to almost entirely skip this system.
Obtaining Cyphers of the First Ones in Patch 9.2
Once you complete the quest

near the end of Chapter 3 of the 9.2 Campaign, you will unlock the first research in the Cypher of the First Ones system,

. This quest also gives you 120

to kickstart your research.
Note: Characters that choose to use the Zereth Mortis skip will have their Cypher of the First Ones system unlock, but will
FORFEIT
the 120

they would gain from this quest's completion.

can also be obtained from several Zereth Mortis activities like Daily Quests, rares, and treasures scattered around the zone.
Recommended Initial Research Path for Cyphers of the First Ones in Patch 9.2
As of the latest iteration on the PTR and 2 days before Patch 9.2 hits the live servers, most of the Cyphers of the First One researches have a research time of 5 seconds, with only the initial "Understanding" Cyphers having a long research time.
Alt Catch-Up
: Once each "Understanding" Cypher is fully researched with at least one character, an account-wide flag will trigger, making that Understanding research have shortened times for alts as well.

It is important to know you can work on more than one research at a time - You are able to research one trait of each column at a time, for a total of four traits researched at a time (but you do need to research the first trait of each column to be able to research the other traits of that column, as well as advance to the next one).
Because of this, as well as the way research times are laid out, there isn't much of a recommended research priority - As long as you research the main Understanding Cyphers, you are free to unlock the rest of the system, blocked only by quantity of

you might have at a time. We recommend the following initial research path:

After unlocking each initial research in each column, you're able to start other research in their respective tree.

is included in this priority list for three reasons: It is available on Day 1 of Patch 9.2, it is completable in a relatively short amount of time, and it unlocks the third World Quest in Zereth Mortis.
