is new WoW rankings website and one of their amazing features is a statistics page. WoWRanks.IO tracks the breakdown of all players' Covenant choice and the option to break it down by class and spec. We're highlighting some of this data today, and taking a look at how players have chosen their Covenant depending on their spec.

is a new WoW website that has guild, character, raid and achievement rankings for various different categories and tracks many different statistics by pulling data from the WoW API. You can look at your
character's profile
on the site, which shows you things like your raid progress, and other rankings for achievements like

Overall Covenant Choice in Shadowlands
WoWRanks' Stats
page has broken down the overall Covenant choice of all players in their database. Night Fae is the most popular Covenant, and Necrolord the least.
Kyrian was likely on track to be the most popular Covenant, but a
last minute Soulbind change
the week before launch nerfed Pelagos's Soulbind even further, swapping many spec's "best Covenant" to Night Fae from Kyrian, but not by much.

It's interesting to see that the across the entire game, Covenants aren't too far from the expected random average of 25% per Covenant. However, when you start breaking it down by spec as seen in the Spec > Class Breakdown data below, you'll see that each spec always trends towards a certain Covenant, with some specs having almost 90% of their players choosing a certain Covenant.
It is important to note however, that due to the API, there may be minor discrepancies in the data as players who are a certain Covenant for one spec, may change specs to perform another activity like World Quests or Dungeons and log out as that spec.
Tank Covenant Choice Breakdown
Tanks overall seem to favor the Kyrian Covenant with two specs having over 75% popularity and two other specs around 50%. One of the reason is likely due to the extra health potion

which can be very useful for tanks, gaining extra health and removing dangerous debuffs in Castle Nathria and dungeons. Blood Death Knight have around 50% popularity in Venthyr while Guardian Druids have around 48% popularity in Night Fae. Tanks are missing popularity in the Necrolord scene with only Blood Death Knight or Brewmaster Monk having it as the second most popular Covenant andGuardian Druid as the third. It will probably be hard to find a Necrolord tank if you need one for the Covenant Dungeon Bonuses.

Healer Covenant Choice Breakdown
Healers have some of the least diverse Covenant choice options out of all the specs. Restoration Druid has a
massive 87.65%
of players as Night Fae, and Holy Paladins also has a
massive 89% of players
as Kyrian. This is likely due to the strength of these Covenant abilities for their spec,

For the healers, you have a diverse set of Covenant choices with Mistweaver Monk with 53% popularity Kyrian, Discipline Priest with 55% popularity towards Venthyr and Holy Priest and Restoration Shaman with 44% and 61% respectively towards Necrolord.

Some DPS specs have a massive popularity towards a Covenant while others don't. Some of the most skewed Covenant choice picks are:

Generally, unless a spec has a powerful DPS Covenant ability for their spec, they seem to trend towards Night Fae, with 11 DPS specs (out of 24) having Night Fae as their most popular Covenant.
It is important to note however, that due to the API, there may be minor discrepancies in the data as players who are a certain Covenant for one spec, may change specs to perform another activity like World Quests and log out as that spec. This will likely cause larger discrepancies for specs which have a Tank or Healer offspec. For an example, Shadow Priests choosing Venthyr and Retribution Paladins choosing Kyrian may show percentages that are higher than intended as Discipline Priests or Holy/Prot Paladin may be swapping DPS for World Quests and logging off as that spec.
