Today we will take a look at the DPS balance in Castle Nathria during the Week of February 9th. This is the second week after
buffs were given to 10 specs
. For this analysis we will use data provided by
Warcraft Logs Mythic Castle Nathria statistics
.
Warcraft Logs' Castle Nathria Statistics Page
Disclaimers and Source
The data for this article was taken from the
Castle Nathria Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
under the Shadowlands Season 1 partition at the 95th percentile for Mythic difficulty in the window.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the state of class balance for Castle Nathria in Shadowlands Season 1 two weeks after the recent
buffs to 10 under performing specs
.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
The balance between specs is very delicate and will likely change throughout Season 1, as player acquire more gear, different classes and specs tend to perform better with more secondaries.

Spec Analysis for Week of February 9th
With the meta still stabilizing after the recent
buffs to many specs
, we've had some movements in the rankings... although not all as expected, with Frost Mage dropping positions even after receiving buffs. We've asked our writers to share their opinions on some of the specs with most changes compared to the previous week.
Frost Mage
Another week has passed and we now have more parses to look over. Today we are looking at Frost Mage since it has fallen several ranks compared to last week. Looking over logs, I have concluded that this is mostly due to one player's performance playing Frost on Sire Denathrius. Since there is only one log recorded for Frost Mage on Sire Denathrius, it is considered above the 95th percentile.
In any case where you are looking over statistics, its important to be aware of how small sample sizes can skew data. There is no doubt that Frost is under performing compared to fire, but I don't believe the one parse on Sire Denathrius is representative of what Frost can do on that fight. As stated in my last write-up about Frost Mage, Fire Mage still performs better in most raid situations. The number of Frost Mage parses will increase in the coming weeks, but it will be hindered by the covenant system since you must be Venthyr to get the most out of Frost.
Demonology Warlock
Demonology rankings dropped significantly most likely due to two factors;
Firstly due to more players being interested in playing Destruction after they received their buff, this is something seen across most specs that receive buffs, especially those that people gravitate towards more naturally (this has generally been the case between Destruction and Demonology).
Secondly due to the fact that in order to parse or effectively do strong damage as Demonology you are effectively pushed into getting outside buffs from your friends (PI, Commanding Shout, etc) which makes the spec not super fun to play in raid.
With Destruction doing relatively the same damage as Demonology
without
cheesing damage it's par for the course to see Demonology fall in rankings.
Elemental Shaman
Last week, Elemental saw a jump upwards in rankings (12 -> 8) which should be driven primarily by Elemental obtaining the final dps trait on our soulbind of choice - Heirmir. It's a relatively small bump up, but comes in a week where only the final soulbinds got additional traits. The combination of our fairly weak 2nd Potency conduit options and that we're Necrolord makes Elemental one of, if not the only dps spec to get a dps bump from Soulbinds this week.
On top of this, Elemental was set up to be a late bloomer in overall rankings this tier for two reasons. The first is because we have 3 different legendaries that are the best choice for different fights. As we get farther along, especially these next couple of weeks where more folks that have been running Torghast/Soul Ash table missions weekly will get to have 3 235 legendaries, Elemental should fluctuate a bit as more people feel comfortable using the optimal legendary for a given fight. The second is that we're one of the stronger sustained single-target specs in the game right now, and the farther into farm we get for more guilds the stronger Elemental will look on overall rankings as shorter kills and less mechanics to deal with will mean that specs with stronger single-target baseline tend to rise.
