The drop rate is really low but ive seen it dropped 2 times on 10 man.

Also works as a dps staff for druids now when spirit gives hit.

Big disadvantage is that there is no longer a 2h caster weapon enchant. This means that a 1H weapon +offhand is more beneficial, because you get an extra 100 intellect from the offhand enchant. I wonder why Blizzard decided not to create a 2h weapon enchant as in pre-Cataclysm, but did add the 2H agility version.
Also, there is only 1 other healer weapon and it drops from Nefarion. Not easy to obtain. This is why I bought this staff for 14.5k, despite the enchant disadvantage.

Edit: Now that the offhand enchant is getting nerfed, there is no longer a disadvantage for caster staves.

Definitely the best healer staff and probably awesome for any dps with spirit->hit conversion, marginally better than the Tol'vir archeology Посох Аммунаэ.

Since the +100 int enchant is getting nerfed to +40 int in the upcoming patch, this item and it's heroic counterpart are even better than before.

For my Holy Priest, this appears to be a large upgrade over the reasonably easy to obtain Милость Мучителя Фолиант линий судьбы combination. From what I can tell, post-patch, this will be second only to the currently much better Андорос, Десница Короля Драконов Фолиант линий судьбы combination, which will still be better even with the offhand enchant nerf.

Well he is right tbh no offense,
The spirit+mastery gain would benefit a holy priest much much much much more then a Shadowpriest who receives some extra combatregen from spirit (I assume u are hitcapped by now).
The only "useful" stat u have is spirit =hit, but the mastery stat is very weak for shadowpriests (hence why it's getting buffed!:p)

Spirit is not a Healer-Only stat. Hybrid DPS with Spirit=Hit Talents gain just as much benefit.

I think it's silly that healers are prioritized over DPS, and this is coming from a healer!

As I've noticed, the Spirit-to-Hit Talents given by the DPS Caster Spec from a class that can heal is meant to compensate for the lack of hit normally found on healer gear, so that you don't have to worry too much about having to get DPS caster gear if you're loaded up on Healer Gear.

That's not to say that the DPS gear couldn't be better or worse, but the talents don't necessarily make it the best, nor will they necessarily gain as much benefit from using a weapon with Spirit rather than more useful DPS stats.

The Spirit-to-Hit Talents are the following:

Shadow Priest: Twisted Faith
Balance Druid: Balance of Power
Elemental Shaman: Elemental Precision

Plain and simple, yes, certain Caster DPS benefits from spirit.
Yes, the healer would benefit more from spirit.
Does that mean the DPS shouldn't get to roll on the item? No.
Does that mean that the DPS should whine when the healer wants a staff with Spirit? No.

imho, Staff of Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan would be better for DPS, but it's from Dwarf Archaeology, and some people don't have the patience to bother with it. So you don't need to compare, you trade 228 Spirit and 228 Mastery for 228 Crit and 228 Haste.

Holy Paladins also get Enlightened Judgments, but they can't use staves. so it's moot for this discussion.

so i did a little comparison of Фолиант линий судьбы with intel enchant + Милость Мучителя bolth reforged mastery to haste against Посох исцеления тьмой Челли reforged mastery to haste and the results are as follows

Staff vs MH+HBT
341 int vs 359 int
228 spi vs 225 spi
1955 sp vs 1729 sp
137 mastery vs 116 mastery
91 haste vs 76 haste

for a holy priest it is a very slight upgrade, but a upgrade is a upgrade, so instead of spending 14k on the heartbound tome just do a few BoT trash runs to get this, its worth it.

On my server, (Xavius EU) i have seen many ppl selling this staff for 34k+ gold!

I estimate its true value to be 26,000 - 34,000 (low-med pop) 22,000 - 32,000 (high pop)

While epic 85 item prices are still a little crazy and irratic on all servers, there are some easy ways to determine a realistic AH price for sellers and buyers.

Weapons & Armor
1. Any item's true value is allways relative to server population.
for example: a higly populated server generaly has lower prices due to surplus of avalable lvl 85 epic Weapons&Armor causing daily undercutting wars lowering item value below its true value.

There are 2 lvl's of epic 85 armor;
LvL 1 . BoE Epic 85 crafted
LvL 2 . BoE Epic 85 raid drop

There is only 1 lvl of epic 85 weapons from raid drops.

This makes the BoE crafted epic 85 by nature cheap (mats prices)
This makes epic armor less valuable because u can get a fair equivilant to BoE raid drops via crafting.
This means by default the epic 85 raid drop weapons are the rarest and therefore worth the most.

2. Any item''s true value is also relative to its droprate, a lower droprate epic 85(or max lvl) item will allways be the most expensive and worthwile purchases and also generate small-large fotunes for the seller.

the gm was out loot master..he even said he was distracted at the moment and he shouldnt have let it go he is taking all blame but i dont want him to. it is my fault. i have been catching so much crap for this incident from ppl in the guild and from ppl that dont even know me and see me wearing it. i cant even enjoy it so i guess i get what i deserve.

it's just that healers in Cata can't function without spirit, whereas DPS have other options (and a whole other set of DPS-oriented gear out there).

While this may be true for cloth wearing casters, it is most definitely not true for all DPS casters as you imply. Leather wearing DPS casters (balance druids) have no other options and I believe the situation is the same with mail for the Shamans. Every single piece of leather, + Intellect gear that drops in Cata raids has Spirit on it. So by your logic, a balance druid would never be allowed to roll on any armor if a restoration druid healer was also present. Things have changed and you can't try to shoehorn this into the pre-Cataclysm mindset of spirit=healer.

I have to admit that i havent been playing long... so therefore im not ALWAYS 100% of everything that is going on. Im probably going to be hated after this...this dropped in my group tonight..druid rolled..so did i...i won the roll the first time..but something happened with his roll and his roll the second time around won..but i still ended up with this staff...i realized after i had gotten it that i probably shouldnt have even rolled on it cause it had so much spirit..i am a warlock i do not need spirit. i have to say I FEEL HORRIBLE about what happened. so lesson learned DO NOT ROLL unless you really can use it...especially if there is someone else in the group that needs it more than you. Of course he joked about it and told me it was all ok..but i know he had to of been so pissed at me. I know i would have been. :( So I learned my lesson about gear and what you should do in that situation. Since he will be healing me in the future i definitely should have let him have that upgrade. i totally effed him over and if he hadnt of been so nice about it probably myself in the end.

Mandy, you really should pay better attention to the stats you need, take a few moments to look at the item before you roll on it. If you can't pay attention to simple stats, I wonder how much attention you pay in raids? You're probably the one standing in fire that's causing that poor healer to go OOM. But, take heart, you're not the only one who effed up. You can share the blame with the loot master. Sounds like he was asleep at the wheel. If it was only you and the druid rolling on it, he should have totally disregarded your roll and awarded it right to the druid. I'm guessing he stands in fire also.

I'm not saying caster dps shouldn't ever get this staff, but, priority should always go to healers on this one.

As of patch 4.1, it seems that it's models has been changed to the "heroic" version of the staff, which is unobtainable in the current game. It is overall darker, but displays a brighter coloration of pink on the top end.

4.1 patch has recoloured the handle and the base of the staff from blue to reddish, stands out much more now.

I have been using Аманийский ритуальный скипетр and Потерянная сумка проклятий on my resto druid but saw this on the AH for 20K and went for it. Gain of 23 int, 28 spi, 107 SP, and 86 mastery (assuming crit is reforged to mastery on the bag). This never seemed to drop for me, so it was definitely worth it, although frankly even with the old weapons I never had any problem being on top of the healing meter.

One night we had a pug, priest, and this dropped and i was sooo excited. They weren't in vent so they didnt hear me get excited and I rolled, ended roll, and looted it (master looter). Then they roll after I picked it up and they rolled higher.. I could have been like uhm you not in vent, sorry bro. But I gave it to them anyways :( But lucky for me It dropped for me few days after :D

I have always played WoW on low settings because my computer sucks, but just the other day I set it to ultra just to see if my computer would blow up or not and omg.. this staff is so pretty! :D I'm like stunned on how pretty it is :D

It's also one of the best DPS staves for Boomkins, Shadow Priests and Elemental Shamans. Healers can reforge items just like other classes to maximise beneficial stats. Absolutely no reason for healers to have priority for this as long as the DPS has Spirit as a priority stat.

I've been fortunate to grab two of these off the AH due to low pricing (10k and 8.5k) which I have gone and resold one for nearly double but kept the other.

I feel as though I should put this item to use but all I have which can use it is a off-set Balance build. I'm not a fan of Balance due to the mechanic, but I would like to have a caster class to compliment a melee class and it would be fantastic if I could use my Druid for both. Furthermore, the itemization is not favorable to Balance with Mastery as compared to, say, Incineratus and the off-hand from Halfus (both which are common drops in our raids).

It's just, I don't like the Balance mechanic...

...but I don't want to put my Druid on the back burner to an alt...

I've been doing some comparisons and this staff is remains very competitive in 4.2 from a price/performance point of view for a non-raider/alt using BOE's. When you compare this staff to a combination of Elementium Lightforce Hammer (ilevel 365) +Goblet of Anger (ilevel 372) the stat loss is minimal (110 sp, 40 intellect). Meanwhile, the price for that combination is easily around 15K gold to start. The staff is currently selling for 10K gold on my server.

Point being, if you are gearing up an healer alt, don't overlook this staff just because it's old tier. Depending on your server you might find the best value for your money with this staff.

Now it being post 4.3, I'm not sure as to the new, better staff options out there, which I assume there are. But for my two cents, I have to admit that based on what option for caster staffs out there, there are not many options.

With the lack of available caster staffs, I have to admit that both the DPS and Healer only arguments have good points.

The only thing I'd like to add is that to me this staff would be put to best use by a priest. The reason I say this is that a priest who is specked Holy and Shadow, would benifit both ways.

While in Shadow spec, the spirit to hit talent would make good use of the added spirit and when in Holy Spec, they would bennifits from spirit from a healers perspective. Essentially utilizing, both the DPS and Healer arguments.
