man I really wanna see this effect.
The second out of four operas forming the famous
The Ring Of The Nibelung
cycle by Richard Wagner is called
. Assuming that World of Warcraft's "Val'kyr" are the result of slight change of the "Valkyrie", the link between the name of the stave and the proc is pretty evident.
I really hope that the proc will be useful in both pvp and pve without being overpowered because I don't want them to nerf such an interesting proc to the ground.
As soon as I got this I went to check it on the dummies, and the proc rate seems awful. 2 dots kept up at all times and spamming wraths/starfire, and it took 2 minutes before my first valkyrie procced. Ran the daily heroic the next day and it procced 4 times, total :-(
I have found this to proc multiple times while it is up. I have had 2 Val'kyr out at the same time. If I can catch screenshot of it, I will post it!
And I have the Normal one.
So what exactly does teh val'kyr do? I just got the staff and it proc'd once but I couldn't catch what it did.....
Your harmful spells have a chance to cause you to summon a Val'kyr to
by your side for 30 sec.
Read the description.
Read the description.
I'm sure he read the description, but "fight" is pretty ambiguous. He was probably wondering HOW it fights.
To quote the first comment by
for the normal version of this staff:
Valkyr chain casts Smite, that hits around 950-1100 and crits1500-1600 with a very low (5%ish) crit rate. (non-boss dummy testing, zero debuffs)
Cast time is very fast, somewhere between 1 and 1.5 sec.
Heroic Nibelung may be BiS for many high haste casters. Boomkin and ele shammies with a very considerable amount of haste find this staff to be a DPS increase despite the lack of stats.
Do not pass this weapon lightly.
I'm a Spriest who pulls around 5.5-6k on most ICC25 encounters. That equates to about 5th or 6th in my guild runs.
I won this staff last night. I'll need to recoup some haste, but I'm pretty pysched to see it in action.
Reflective damage from Disc priests PW:S also can proc the valks.
Does anyone know about the proc of the 277 version? more procs? more damage?
plz comment ^^
Improvements over the normal version:
+96 Spell Power
+1 (Yellow) socket
Socket spellpower bonus +9, up from +7
Procs Va'kyr Protectors instead of the Val'kyr Guardians, which hit for around 300 damage more but otherwise function the same.
This weapon is very impressive for a Boomkin. Testing on a target dummy I had an average increase of about 700 dps. In 25 man raid I assume it would be even more. On average in ICC 25 man hardmode content the Val'kyr damage accounts for between 2%-6% of my overall damage each fight.
I found that fights with more aoe damage the Val'kyr procs more often.
On some trash pulls I have had 3 Val'kyr's proc at the same time.
The Val'kyr hits for 3150 damage per tic usually per second, sometimes it does a double hit (3150x2). This lasts for 30 seconds. The damage does not scale with sp, it is the same damage on a target dummy and in 25 man H raid fully buffed.
From what I have observed so far, the more aoe damage you do the greater chance for the Val'kyr to proc. So might not perform the best on a single target boss. (This is not confirmed, just my observation).
I got this staff the other week. As a boomkin this staff seems to proc more then my other raiders. It does however have its drawbacks, even with the self healing the valks tend to die before their full duration. Also the valks are completely random and provide random spurts of increased dps over a flat dps increase you would see from a MH/OH combo. The valks also die during encounters like sindy and BQL due to the raidwide AoE damage. The valks do an average of 1100 dps when they are up (the non heroic did about 1000 dps) but this is averaged over the entire fight and varies with how many valks you have up at the moment.
So potentially you can have a 3.3k dps increase during an encounter from proc'ing 3 valks. But any respectable boomkin realizes that their dps varies enough as is with our eclipse proc's and will tend to stray away from more randomness. Pick up this staff if you want a cheap 277 weap that most casters probably won't bid on in a raiding guild.
Heroic Nibelung is good for Boomkins still, but it's no longer considered BiS, due to the proc nerf. Heroic Dying Light, Heroic Halion, and Normal/Heroic Archus are all better choices now, tbh.
As a fire mage, the Val'kyr do about 450 Effective DPS. (Between 300 and 600, depending on fight).
For me, that's somewhere near 5% of total DPS.
Keep in mind that this weapon will NOT scale with gear (unless your rotation changes based on gear), so the better your gear gets, the worse this item gets.
Went straight to Bank/DE on our first Lady Deathwhisper kill. I'm assuming our Fire mage and Boomchicken didn't want to waste their DKP on an upgrade that isn't BiS though. I was considering taking it myself just to use on Deathwhisper and LK since they're so AoE heavy, but it's not worth using all my DKP for an item I'll only use on two fights.
Powerful effect for mage solo low level raid instances.
Do the Valkyrs benefit from the ICC buff "Strength of Wrynn"/"Hellscream's Warsong"?
I have heard you can only get 4 valks up at any one time, I proved this wrong when i got a sceenshot of 6 valks following me...And that was before i had the heroic version of the staff. I tried to upload it to the site, but im not sure it will make it because i have text over my head(i /p birdies, and it shows up in shot) Well if the shot doesnt work, ill post a link to it
This staff looks just like the staff that drops off "The Lich King" in 10 man Normal and Heroic.
So is much easier to get in my opinion. If your going for looks.
And yes...the proc makes a difference in PVE dps, not sure about PvP though.
For the mage transmog crowd, this staff matches Netherwind perfectly
