is the name in ancient Icelandic of a mark (or badge/war token) put on warriors' helmets in old times.
The stories suggest that helmets were marked in some manner before a large battle so combatants on each side could identify one another. In chapter 142 of Brennu-Njáls saga, the two sides made ready for the battle at the Alþing, arming themselves and putting marks (
) on their helmets. However, we don't know what the nature of the markings might have been.
" can have a myriad of different meanings, check out this list of Old Icelandic words:
this looks like it will be a very nice enhance shammy trink, with haste and stackable ap.
This trinket will be absolutely insane for enhancement shamans........
Does the timer reset with each hit or does it just count down to 0 then start again on the next hit?
The Haste and constantly refreshing buff basically giving you a static 340 AP, makes this trinket one of if not the Best in Slot trinkets attainable right now for Mutilate Rogues. To Gornsav it doesn't have an internal CD because it is not a proc but a continually applying buff. I don't think bleeds will cause applications because they aren't melee or ranged attacks.
The mechanic is a pretty decent way to focus more umph into a PVE item while making it less desirable (the larger ramp up and shorter buff) for PVP.
Haste isn't very good for MM hunters or BM. BM are already soft capped with 5/5 serpent's swiftness, and marks really have no use for it in their rotation. As an SV hunter I stacked it so I could make sure to get 3 shots (serpent sting, black arrow, aimed shot, kill shot - whichever was most applicable - then steady shots when others were on CD) off without impacting on explosive shot being used every 6 seconds, but no other spec should be chasing haste as far as I can see. I think this is a good trink for Enh. shamen and muti rogues, even decent for a ret paladin, but unless you are a hunter that has their heart set on SV spec, stay away, in my opinion.
post was a reply to Buttspawn1, not sure why it didn't get placed following his/her comment.
Enhance Shaman By far one of the best trinekts out there for us. I mean seriously you got the haste for our many procs and spells and not mention that AP, the one thing "our base stat" This trinket is quite amazing and cant wait to get my hands on it.
Herkuml War Token's proc is called
Rage of the Fallen
It will proc off of every physical attack that connects with an enemy target. For example, if a rogue uses Fan of Knives and hits five targets, it will proc 10 times. Likewise, if Fan of Knives hits 10 targets, it will reach its full stack from one cast.
Imagine if this thing had crit instead of haste *Drool*
But the thing is, anyone who would prefer that much crit-rating over this much Haste must be pretty behind gear-wise.
Because pretty much what, 80% of gear for classes that would use this gives Crit.. and I don't just mean rating- Agil gives a nice chunk too, so if you're so low on Crit that this isn't a valued piece of gear to you.. I uhh.. Idk.
As for me being an Enh Shammy, I'd much prefer Haste, but it's VERY good for ANY melee DPS. (although I heard Feral Druids don't value Haste too much, but don't quote me on that pl0x)
(eh eh, bring the league of classes ranting about how this is much better for them ;))
This is one of the absolute best trinkets for a Mutilate Rogue currently in game.
For a Mut Rogue, it is great for farming (remember those herds of mammoths running around Storm Peaks?) because you can hit Fan of Knives and your AP jumps. You can use your ranged weapon to begin increasing your AP, and then when the mob closes, hit slice and dice and then quickly kill it. It is also great for trash mobs in any dungeon (great in ICC while doing rep runs and just killing trash) because, when used in combination with Hunger for Blood, your dps greatly increases. It is a great boon when attempting to solo multi-player quests, and while solo farming rep in BC instances (i.e. Steam Vault)...
Question, what about survival hunters? I know haste isn't that big anymore, but I also saw the spreadsheet stating it would be like an 80dps increase over the mirror of truth (yeah, still have that equipped along with greatness card) ... so ... any thoughts?
Mutilate Rogue speaking;
I just want to get this straight in my own head, so I'm writing it out. Haste rating means I hit faster, I do more hits per fight. More hits per fight is either normal white, normal yellow or crits of either - so why wouldn't I want haste ? More hits is more damage.... Combine that with 17 AP with every damage, stacking 20 times, well that simply means 340 AP since I always do damage (high hit rating) so it will always stack. Can't see how this isn't the same as 340 AP + 153 Haste Rating.
(I can actually see why, because it's a progressive scale, first hit is 17AP, second 34AP and so on, it's a stepped scale ending with 340AP, but I'd still take it)
I imagine with the new changes to the rogue's poisons and with the new master poisoner assasinatino spec this is an amazing trinket. haste is a gigantic DPS boost, not to mention the similar fury of the five flights effect, this is an amazing rogue trinket
Funny that you get downrated for stating the obvious truth. Haste is the worst stat (of the useful ones) for hunters, period. Thus this trinket is rather mediocre for hunters for an iLVL264 item.
However for a rogue this is a marvelous item.
How does this compare to
Mark of Supremacy
for a MM Hunter?
This trinket is alot better than people thinking or saying....
All show this trinket as a good dps trinket.
Just use the info at those links and use common sense if its worth getting for you.
I tested this trinket on dummy, and it gave me 200 dps MINUS over
Mirror of Truth
(I am a hunter, tested with MM and Surv), even though the AP bonus stacked up to 20 times obviously. It was a good idea that items can be refunded in 2 hours after buying them. :D So hunters, the ilevel is not everything, this trinket is not worth 50 emblems of frost. Of course, if you dont have a decent trinket it's not that bad, but not better than the Mirror.
By saregos on 12/10/2009 (Patch 3.3.0)
Previous iterations on this design refreshed the duration on each application, as do stacking spell buffs, so I think there's enough precedent to say the duration on this will be reset on each application.
See: Fury of the Five Flights. Eye of the Broodmother, Majestic Dragon Figurine, all of the emblem of frost idols/sigils/totems/librams...
I'm beginning to think Blizz likes this mechanic a lot.

I believe this is to maximize their utility for PvE content without making them too desirable for PvP situations.
In regards of this trinket and warriors:
Herkumi War Token is an upgrade to the +90str Greatness card for DPS.
Greatness card works out (considering static plus proc over time) to a total of 330AP (or +165str).
Herkumi works out to a static 340AP (in combat) + 153 haste - no contest, even considering greater blessing of kings benefiting the Greatness card. Obviously True Shot Aura works equally with both (as it increases total AP by 10%, rather just increasing a base stat like Kings). 340AP + 153 Haste beats out 330AP. For fury warriors, this chunk of haste will help smooth out rage generation too.
Should you get it? Well, if you are having lousy roll luck on a better TOC25 or ICC25 trinket (or the ICC10 whispering fang), then this is one solution. If you're already in full T9, it would be an immediate dps boost compared to spending badges on a piece of T10, as you will see a decrease in having even two T10 and two T9 bonuses versus your 4 piece T9 set bonus. So it's worth considering... (though I am personally going to save badges for saronite for the shadow's edge quest).
The new Landsoul Spreadsheet shows this as a greatness card upgrade as well.
I'm a MM hunter and im not sure if this trinket would be of any benefit to me since i do see a lack of haste on most of my mail gear drops ive gotten so far im currently using the deaths verdict and the darkmoon card greatness. id like to replace the darkmoon card with this trinket but im not sure if it would be a dps upgrade for me since haste isnt a stat hunters usually stack also im not really sure i want to spend my 60 precious frost emblems on it. should i wait for a drop or buy it?
Wonder why this proc's for rogues fan of knives but does not proc from a hunter's volley?
Any word on this from Blizz?
is a spell that does
and not a 'physical' attack.
Its a known issue that will be addresses either in a small patch coming soon or in Cataclysm.
I know it makes me sad too, regardless... DPS only truly matters on boss fights (clearing trash is important but i mean come on :D) and this trinket will shine bright on a boss fight.
*calling the downrank because i said that trash-aoe dps is unimportant*
Thinking to buy it for my dw frost dps deathknight (haste is imo very usefull for frost dps). What do you think? Worth to spend 60 emblems?
Seems to be the 80 version of
. More haste, but bit less AP. Meh...
Was thinking about this as well in favor of the Greatness Card. Ran both on Female Dwarf and the war token showed a 50 DPS increase over the card with no raid buffs and a 70 DPS increase with best raid buffs.
As a MM hunter with 600+ ArP and Zods bow which will add additional Auto Shots, the haste increase and the increased AP buff could be very beneficial now that I have the 2 piece 10 bonus. I was more in line with thinking which to buy first the cloak or the trinket with Frost Badges. The trinket may win out.
The obvious truth? Not so fast!
Yes, haste is obvious the least usefull stat of the dps stats, but that doesn't automatically make this item a bad one. In fact it is a pretty good trinket! Also according to the Hunter_dps excel sheet this trinket is actually one of the best hunters can get. So how is that possible?
The answer is threefold
1) haste is mediocre, but this trinket has a truckload of this mediocre stat. The quantity in this case makes a lot up for the quality
2) more important however is the proc. For hunters that go 'all out' this proc reaches within 20 a 30 sec its max stack and one physical hit per 10 seconds will keep it up for the rest of the complete fight. That is a very, very nice bonus. Better than any of the AP trinkets in terms of average AP! And because of the high uptime also better than most of the famous ArP trinkets and even the Darkmoon agility card.
3) as a side-bonus, the haste affects autoshot and steady shot, which are the two main shots that keep the proc up. Also the haste self-triggers quick-shots. My point: the haste actually makes the proc trigger faster and is - although this is just a bit I'll admit - self-enforcing.
So yes, haste is mediocre, but this trinket is actually pretty nice for a hunter.
And for people downrating me, just fill in the numbers at the EJ Excel sheet yourself or the femaledwarf website, and specially check the calculation tabs. The calculations proof my point. You'll see this trinket blows most others out of the water despite that it has 'only' haste.
And to WakemanCK, like I already said from the start: Why I would still not advise directely on spending emblems on it, is that there are other items even finer.
So in order to get rid of confusing: I'm NOT advising getting this immediately. However, that fact that something else is better, doesn't mean this item is bad.
In fact it is a very good trinket and not just better than old trinkets, but e.g. also better than the Ulduar25 Wratstone. In fact, it is listed as 4th best overall only passed by Whispering Fanged Skull, Deathbringer's Will and Death's Verdict. All of which are drops, so no guarantee you'll be ever able to get your hands on!
So once you have spend your emblems on the other upgrades, THEN I certainly would advise you to consider this one as it will be certainly an upgrade unless you have two of those only three better once's. Something which for most of us will not be the case ...
If you're a Ret Paladin and having trouble getting trinket upgrades, this is actually better than
Mirror of Truth
Coren's Chromium Coaster
according to Rawr.
Of course, you should always get your T10 gear before you spend the emblems on accessories.
I wonder how this would do for a frost/unholy dk seeing as white damage is like 1/3 of our dps and we get procs off auto attacks. I know this would be a solid trink for unholy dks because haste speeds pet swings and gargoyle attacks aswell as your own.
Before you start flaming me saying haste is a fail dk stat i pull over 7k in both specs and im just thinking aloud here.
i love you
Not sure if anyone knows this already, but this does indeed stack with FotFF for a constant 660 AP. I'm not a theorycrafter or anything so I don't know how well that would be compared to using this with another trinket. Just decided to let everyone know.
As a hunter think this trinket is actually really good. Tier-10 2 set bonus says that our autoshots have a 5% chance to increase our damage and our pets damage by 15%. I can confirm that there is no cooldown for this and every single autoshot has a chance to proc this ability meaning a hunter could have this up for an entire boss fight or they could get screwed and never have it up.
On that note having haste is not a bad thing as it will increase your chance to have this proc. A properly geared hunter will only have around 200-300 haste without this trinket. The global cooldown for Steady shot is 1.5seconds and while i overshoot that when my Improved aspect of the hawk procs I am ok with it because of the t-10 two set bonus.
As a sv-hunter in a 10man guild my unbuffed crit is almost 50% so i don't worry about yellow gems being (10agil-10crit) i instead stack (10agil-10haste) with the idea of having more chances for t10 two set bonus up time. If i by some chance were to ever have my 25man heroic gear i would have well over 63%crit unbuffed with out stacking any crit in my gems.
Therefore for a hunter this trinket is good if you have t10 two set bonus at least.
I agree that H-Deaths Choice is top trinket and maybe even Deathbringer's will but in my 10man only gear as i am in a 10man guild i choose this trinket and Whispering Fanged skull. All 4 of these i think are good hunter trinkets. Obviously the Heroic versions are better then the none-heroic and i take that into account.
I also wanted to say that i have played as MM-hunter spec and noticed that a lot of my damage was due to autoshot and even if i am slightly off, my above crit% chances would only be slightly less by about 5-7%. Still i don't worry to much about crit because raid buffs increase my crit chance by about 6-10% or more and my talents increase my crit chance of all other ability such as Survival Instincts.
"Note i include the talents Lethal Shots, Killer Instinct, Combat Experience, Lightning Reflexes, and Hunting Party where they apply for the calculations and my gear is enchant/gem in the above calculations. My profesions are JC and LW to optimize my dps."
how does this trinket compare to other available trinkets for a ret paladin?
I'm not convinced by this at all as a hunter item.
Even under ideal circumstances, (i.e. against the heroic training dummy with the 20 stacks of +AP constantly up), for five minutes solid white damage, it only represented a 70DPS increase for me over Darkmoon Card Greatness (+90 Agi).
Out in the wild the buff will probably drop off at some point, and it takes a while to get up to twenty stacks, which will probably negate the DPS increase completely.
It's not totally useless, and yes it will represent a minor DPS increase over most lower level trinkets, but do yourself a favour and don't waste sixty Frost Emblems on this when there are still other much more solid upgrades to go for.
Still, that's what the refund system is for :D
The fact that this is a trinket and thus requires no gemming or enchanting as well as the fact that there's a frost vendor inside ICC makes it a good trinket to use on "extended loan," meaning, just sell it back and buy it every hour or so (in between wipes if necessary, or port down after each wing) if you're trying to avoid breaking T9 set bonuses until you get T10 ones, etc.
Can anyone tell me how much useful this trinket is for my ret pally, considering that I havent had that much of a luck, so far, to grab
For Retribution Paladins with Tier 10 4-piece, I will say that this Trinket just might be the rough equivalent for those that have been chasing the ever-elusive Death's Choice/Death's Verdict (Non-Heroic Version) due to the fact due to our swing timer being cut shorter, we yield more frequency in the Divine Storm Cooldown reset's occurance (Roughly a 4% Increase) as well as the faster occuring seal procs and white swings to go with our 4-piece bonus of 10% more Seal damage (Roughly 4-5% Increase). Testing it on Saurfang and Patchwerk, I found, in comparison to the Greatness Card (Strength), it yielded me an increase of between 500-700 DPS. It's amazing how some Set Bonuses work.
However, sadly enough, for Paladins walking around in Tier 9 4-piece, this Trinket walks some way behind Death's Choice/Verdict and Whispering Fanged Skull, due to the fact that both bonuses from the set are not complimented by Haste (Righteous Vengeance's Crit occurance is a resultant of CS/Judge/DS Crits, while a 5% increase in Judgement Crit chance is out of the domain of Haste completely).
I have seen two paladins with this trinket on my realm(so far). one horde, one alliance. both of them are some of the best Pallys on my server. i really dont get why a pally would use this trink imo. it only gives 340 Ap stacked up to 20 times. which is S**t for a pally trinket. i really dont get why pallys would use this. i certainly wouldnt. Way downrated for an EoF trinket. purely made for rogues and enchancement shamans:P
I think this is nice item for hunter even there are many others good items to use badges for. Since huge ammount of our dps is based auto shot / steady shot and for marksman hunter the haste is pretty nice till some point so u can fit the extra steady shot into ur rotation and when u can make the 1 extra steady shot to ur dps is increasing nicely. also i think the items not working whit hunter volley is bs since yeah it works on rogues INSTANT aoe but haste works on our channel aoe. tho would be great if would gain stack on spells .
There is no point in saying that this trinket is better or worse than others because it will depend entirely on your current gear/ spec. For example I have the Needle Encrusted Scorpion (lvl 232) and Darkmoon Card Greatness (lvl 200). Whilst the token is an upgrade for both it is actually a bigger upgrade in terms of dps if I keep the Darkmoon Card and replace the Scorpion.
As a previous reviewer mentioned there are far better items to spend your 60 badges on. I suspect a number of people buy this token because trinkets are hard to come by and with everyone asking "what is your GS" this trinket will give you a massive boost in that direction!
Blizz please fix the physical vs spell thing for hunters. This issue has been nothing but trouble for years.
Hunter's are not hybrid. Hunters stack agility/AP and not spell power. If you want us to be spell casters, itemize us for it. If not, get the spell damage out of the class. It screws up Lady Deathwhisper's adds (might be fixed now) and it is just wrong to limit the proc on this trinket because of the spell-thing. It's a "Volley of
," not a volley of arcane.
Hunters had no decent vendor trinket at i245 and now the i264 Herkuml is nerfed for us because of the issue. Please fix it. Thanks
I tried this item out with my Retribution Paladin, only when I had 1 t10 and 2 t9 pieces.
This increased my dps from 5000 to 5600.
Turned it in again for another t10 to get the 2p set bonus, this increased my dps with 500 only.
Next item is definetly going to be Herkuml War Token.
You have a good point here. I'm not unwilling to admit that I'm wrong, if that were the case. My original point was and still i sthat this is a very good trinket for hunters. It is ranked 4th best overall and 1st best for non random drops.
However, there is now indeed one thing I overlooked. The article that you linked exposes this. The article claims that it is total crap, which itself is total crap :-) but the method they use to derive that result is is interesting. They used the same method as I did: use the spreadsheet (or online version female dwarf) to derive EAP (equivalent AP). So how come thye end up with different results?
I based my statement on a normal hunter spec using agility, which is what most or at least many raid hunters still do.
However, the writer of teh aryicle is stacking huge amounts of ArP. Now if you do that indeed the value of AP becomes less and therefore this trinket becomes less.
So I must revise my statement to: This is a very good trinket, unless you are a MM hunter who stacks huge amounts of ArP. (Although even though then still it is the best trinket that is not a random drop ... :-) )
This is however a bit academic though, since all hunters that go the ArP-way, almost by definition use ArP trinkets, so they weren't considering this anyway I asume. Still if you are a ArP hunter and think about replacing your (ArP) trinket, don't do it :-)
Still, this is a point I overlooked and more importtant a real argument against this trinket. (Unlike the statements that the ilvl or so is too high or so. No trolling, but seriously who cares about the ilvl? I care about dps ...) I'm 'man enough' to admit that. Though still I standby my argument that for many hunters this will be a very solid upgrade.
Ok, i really dont care about how great/bad this trinket is for hunters. Why is there so much discussion about it? I came here to see how well it fares for rogues considering this trinket was practically made for them. Now, there is about 40 or so useless posts on how good/bad this trinket is for a hunter. I think on the first 5 posts we established that it is decent and 4th overall. So, can we get something other than worthless hunter posts?
By battierpeeler 9 days ago (Patch 3.3.2)
upvoted you for explaining... just sucks cuz usually 40% of my damage in an instance is from volley
Are you in my guild? cause 2 weeks ago we had a go on festergut and about 35-40% of our hunter's dps was from Volley.... >.<
I say please...
What about Beast Mastery Hunter? :p
For an Unholy DK, each Autoattack and Scourge strike and the other strikes give 1 stack. However, the DK spells like Icy touch and Death coil will not give stacks.
It is weaker than Death's Choice (245) trinket, but not by much.
Big questions does it stack with libram of 3 truths and valiance?
I was always under the impression that this trinket was less than spectacular for Ret Pallys because haste is more or less a filler stat for us. I was surprised when I did a search through Rawr and it is listed in our top five. I guess the AP bonus is definitely nice but I would think there would be better available.
most important to survival hunters (and all hunters on trash) magical attacks do not grant a stack of this buff... explosive shot for example in terms of survival, but for the (all hunters) part, volley does not either. make sure to mix an auto shot in between volleys at the very least to maintain stacks.
the main spec it's actually good for is BM (wtf?) cause of how much they just stand there and autoshot/steadyshot once they have a reasonable amount of ArP. and of course, its good for ret and of course it stacks with the libram (that's CS = Str) just like it stacks with AP trinkets like Five Flights
Just got this on my hunter since I had nothing left to buy with my emblems. Honestly, this trinket does increase my dps from DMC Greatness, but the difference is not extremely big. Personal choice is what it comes down to. On a side note, if I've read correctly, haste will become much more valuable to hunters in cataclysm, which would make this trinket significantly better for hunters.

Darkmoon Card: Greatness
Every character has its own personal stats and that is why you can't look at this list as it would be always in this specific order.
Is this good for Deathknights? ;o
A lot of talk for hunters and rogues. I haven't seen a mention for fury warriors. (Edit: now I see kJukumber's post. >.>)
I would think with dual wielding melee, cleave, and whirlwind, this is a pretty nice trinket for warriors. Thoughts?
OT - General Questioning
I've been giving a lot of thought to haste rating for my warrior and I think it's actually a very important stat. Why? Glad you asked:
#1 - Cleave is incredibly important for AE fights. Cleave swings on your melee swing speed.
#2 - Wielding two 2-handers can yield some uncommonly slow rage building scenarios; haste helps eleviate this.
#3 - Faster melee swings = faster melee dps.
#4 - Faster rage build = more button spamming.
Obviously, hit rating, expertise, and armor penetration come priority over haste rating (to their necessary caps). I'm just curious where one should take haste rating before adding more strength and critical strike rating would benefit more.
I have Darkmoon Card Greatness - Strenght.
Should i upgrade it to Herkuml War Token?
Pokeralhotu Paladin Retri
Good News Everyone!
This trinket is also good for resto shammy who need haste!
A completely wasted proc but best for healing throughput provided you don't need regen.
uhm, why can i sell this for 11g to a vendor?
have u understood blizz's plan? during totc, all items gave haste for melee/range mail wearers and u got hit/arm penetration through trinkets and rings. now, all icc items give arm peretration and hit, while haste is nowhere on any gear item. so blizz salls this teinket to balance things.
it changes the gear rotation all the time!
What do you guys think about this trinket for frost DW DKs? I know haste isn't a primary stat that you would stack, but the attack power mechanic up-time seems better than having a 245 trinket with hit, especially when I'm way over cap. The haste seems nice as well, but I'm just looking for some decent input.
This trinket is useful for rogues if you haven't deducted from the
previous 6 posts
on the matter. lol
Rage of the Fallen stacks with Fury of the Five Flights.
Does no one consider this is a monster trinket for frost dk. Almost unbuffed 2 speed from a 2.6 weapon in dw. A rogue on steroids
I'm currently using Death's Verdict (245) and Whispering Fanged Skull (251) on my SV Hunter. I have everything I need with Frost emblems.
Do you suggest getting Herkuml War Token and switching one of the currently equipped? I am in for max dps on Raid Bosses.
Just to note. For feral druids this gives 374 AP at full stack, with
Heart of the Wild
, however it does not seem to be affected by
There hasn't really been any discussion as to how good this is for a Ret Pally, and as a Ret Pally, I would like to know if this is worth the frosties to get.
I know that our tier gear has haste, so it is surely a great stat for us to have, but I'm debating whether this could replace something like Pyrite Infuser, seeing as there is huge net loss of AP
How good is this trinket for DW dk?
This is still top 5 BiS for all Hunter specs (though haste is not currently a desirable hunter stat).
Also a pretty good trinket for a cat, since a great % of the damage is from white attacks.
With 4.0.1 This trinket greatly improve for 2Handed Frost DK as haste become the 2nd best stat to stack.Reforging in mastery makes this trinket nearly the best.
Beware of not reaching the hast soft cap tho.
With the changes of 4.0.1, this thing is wicked on a hunter.
Haste. It's the new crack!
I don't know you guys, but, for me is a very usefull trinket as a DW Frost DK...
