I got this trinket on the first day of Icecrown, and it's truly wondrous. With my bad luck I haven't been able to get the trinkets from either Razorscale, Sartharion, or pretty much any other boss which drops a caster trinket.
So I finally upgraded my abyssal rune, in favor of this.
The Procc is indeed only spell damage, not healing. Also Wind Shear, and other non-damage effects does not work to procc it.

The spellpower bonus on the trinket stacks with Eye of the Broodmother, which is really nice.

Just got this on Tuesday on my shadowpriest, unlike previous trinkets that stack when you cast an ability this is both stacked and MAINTAINED by periodic dot damage meaning that in movement based encounters you do not need to worry about losing your stack

This trinket does proc with EACH and EVERY tick of Blizzard. Basically an instant 180 SP if you are aoe'ing at least ten mobs at once.

For Warlocks:
As mentioned it will proc off any ticks from our dots.
It will also proc from
Hellfire
if you want to Que it up before a fight.

Note that this trinket works differently then Illustration of the Dragon Soul in that it gives you a charge every time you do any spell damage to a target. This means that dot ticks give you a charge, AoE'ing 5 targets will give you 5 charges per time you hit them. I use this on my Warlock and it gets to 10 charges much quicker then the IDS did.

I wonder if non-heroic (this item) and heroic version can be used together. They both are classed: unique.
Any information available?

Balance druids rejoice, this trinket DOES proc off of
Starfall
. I did some testing the other day and you can get a full 10 stack almost instantly. This fact makes this trinket and
Talisman of Volatile Power
an amazing comp for casters with similar AoE effects.

Warlocks:
so far the proc works with your imp's fireball
.
My mistake. It's actually the conflagrate DoT that adds a buff stack each time it ticks. That's why it gets 10 stacks so fast.

For elemental shamans:
Procs from
- Lightning bolt: 1, 2 with LO proc
- Flame Shock: 1 from initial damage + 6-9 from ticks (9 with T9 set bonus, giving a full stack without casting anything else)
- Chain Lightning: 1 per jump, times 2 per LO proc. On 3 targets with a LO proc, you get 6. On 3 targets with double LO proc, you get 9.
- Lava Burst: 1
- Thunderstorm: 1 per target
- Fire Nova: 1 per target
It also procs from Reign of the Dead procs, if you have that trinket.
Doesn't proc from
- Wind Shear
- Fire totem damage (magma, searing, fire elemental)

This is a very nice trinket on my warlock, very happy to upgrade from
Eye of the Broodmother
.
Like mentioned above, you can use hellfire to trigger the proc but you'll need hellfire to actually tick (not just cast).
However, since dots and direct damage (any damage actually aside from your pets) will trigger this, it does not take long at all to get all 10 stacks and keep them up.
No more tapping Lifetap (Rank 1) every 8-9 seconds, woot.

I was online on my priest and did ICC 10 as I killed the second boss, Lady Deathwhisper, the offhand dropped, I lost, the mage won, we defeated this encounter, Muradin's Spyglass dropped, I lost, the mage won, we killed the last boss which I can remember the name of, the staff dropped, I lost, the mage won, I told him I could pay 2000 gold for the trinket, he turned it down, and he gave me the offhand... This is the best trinket for a shadow priest (except the heroic version) in game so far.

Just a little addendum to all the warlock posts:
Unlike Eye of the Broodmother you CAN NOT prestack this with Life Tap.

Heh, as a Mage, just let your Arcane Missiles talent proc, use it, and you're almost having a full stack of the buff already. What I love about this trinket, is that the effect basicly lets you have 180 extra spellpower, rather than having a Use effect so you only have around 10-20 seconds of extra spellpower. A bit as if you get more powerful only during fights. :P

Anyone can tell me if as an arcane mage, Talisman of Resurgence is better than both the regular and heroic version of Muradin's Spyglass?

Since, I have acquired this, it has changed my normal cast sequence as a Shadow Priest.
Normally, I would:
MB> VT > DP > SW:P> MF > MF> MB etc... (something to that effect)
With
Muradin's Spyglass
, my sequence is now:
(building stacks from trink + haste from cloak + 2nd trink + black magic)
MF > MF > MB > VT > DP > SW:P > MB > MF> MF> MB etc...
(3ticks each MF + 1MB + 1VT + 1DP + 1VT =10, then SW:P)
By the time I'm casting SW:P, I have 10 stacks (+180sp). I've increased over all dps quite a bit using this method. It seems slow to start off, but after the base is established, it's all gravy after that.

This trinket procs on damage done. You cannot stack it without dealing damage. All of you saying to Hellfire before a boss, or Lifetap, or Arcane Explosion, are incorrect. You cannot begin stacking this trinket effect just by casting spells. The spells need to deal damage to an opponent.

What is everyone using for a second trinket with this? My mage is currently using the Eye of the Broodmother with it since the effects stack (as mentioned). I'm still trying to get the Reign of the Unliving from Anub.

I use this on my warlock along with reign of the dead. This trinket is a superb upgrade from most trinkets out there (I was using the abyssal rune/dying curse depending on what I was fighting, group comp, etc). The critical strike bonus from this is quite tremendous as well, helps me keep up pyroclasm and I am not afraid to grab hit/haste gears now. Also, I will illustrate how swiftly the 10 stacks (180 spell power for the normal version, 200 for the heroic version) can stack.
I cast immolate say...on Arthas and it crits. His hair gets burned for 4k. (1 stack)
I cast chaos bolt and it crits for 12k, in the mouth. (2 stacks)
Immolate dot ticks (3 stacks)
I use conflag, which burns off his 'stache and hits 7.8k (4 stacks)
Conflag dot ticks for 1337 damage (5 stacks)
Immolate dot ticks again (6 stacks)
So, you can see, before I even start casting my filler spell of incinerate, in a few short seconds, I already have a hearty 6*18 = 108 spell power bonus! To clarify, casting a spell that does no initial spell damage (such as corruption, curse of doom, shadow word pain, etc) will not proc it. However, since dots proc it (obviously, conflag/immolate have dot components), this baby can stack to maximum power in seconds, even versus a single target (I'm thinking Deathbringer, or Deathwhisper before the adds pop-up, Festergut, whatever).
P.S. This drops from GUNSHIP. Gunship is possibly the simplest encounter ever concocted by blizzard (save maybe Chess in Karazhan, which can be easily soloed). Take advantage of this and try to nab some of the great gear that drops from this encounter. Take it easy hope this illustration helped!

With the amount of raids capable of clearing at least the first wing of ICC, it's not uncommon for your weekly group's caster dps to have already acquired this trinket--it drops fairly often.
What am I getting at? There are at least two healer classes that could, in theory make this trinket work for them--obviously assuming that everyone who has priority on this trink has it of course.
Those two classes are holy/disc priests and resto shammies. Of all the four healing classes, these are the only two who can maintain the stack casually, although it's much faster for a priest as they have two dots as opposed to one from the shaman.
Even as a healer, somewhere on my action bars is a macro that goes as follows (priest perspective):
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=3 Shadow Word: Pain, Devouring Plague
This simple macro could be tweaked further to become:
/castsequence reset=3 Shadow Word: Pain, Devouring Plague
so that you could continue to drop dots on a reliable target during boss fights without having to look away from who you are currently healing. Once the 10-stack is set up, you only have to drop one SW:P to sustain it. But if you lose the stack, you can easily get it back up with that macro. SW:P landing on the target means you have the buff guaranteed for at least 28 seconds; DP landing means you have the buff guaranteed for at least 34. Either dot lasts for roughly half a minute (I of course am referring to the 10-second duration of the last buff application once the final tick goes off), and boss fights in raids last anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, meaning that one successful application means you have the buff up for anywhere between 5-10% of the fight, even if you were somehow to forget to reapply it (the only time that could happen is, of course, where healing is so intensive that you don't have time to reapply the dot). Even then, please note that you are still benefiting from 2.85% crit chance regardless of whether or not you maintain the stacks.
SW:P landing is a guaranteed 6 stacks; DP landing is a guaranteed 8. Holy Fire is a guaranteed 7 (initial hit + 1 tick every second for 6 seconds). Penance landing is a guaranteed 1 to 3 (since each tick has a chance to miss).
For Resto Shammies, Flame Shock is a guaranteed 7 stacks at the end of a 28-second period (initial hit + 6 ticks over 18 seconds + 10 seconds to refresh the buff). In the case of Flame Shock, the dot will apply stacks faster as your haste increases, meaning you get the full benefit sooner. Just be careful to remember that with a faster application means a shorter duration for the dot, which means a shorter grace period for reapplying it (if Flame Shock managed to get to12 seconds duration, you would have the buff for only 22 seconds as opposed to 28).
I argue that this is a nice alternative trinket for those two healers (once all dps that want it already have it--yes, I will keep reiterating that) because it has a nice chunk of crit, requires no more than one gcd to set up (and an occasional gcd to maintain) and has
very
competitive spellpower after 10 stacks (hell, after 9 it's competitive). As of now, there are no crit/spellpower healy trinks available at the ilvl of Muradin's Spyglass or higher, so it might not be such a bad idea to think outside the box and try this baby out if you can afford to do so.
My only regret is that there isn't a haste/spellpower trink out there at this ilvl for healers, not even one that can get by with a trick like this (referring to equip effects that don't have ICDs).
Still, give it a go. I'm confident it will surprise you in a positive way. And remember--
only after all the dps have gotten their stick of gum!

I'm using this on my Holy Priest - I kick it off with a DP and SWP on my focus target (usually the boss), then just refresh it with a DP every 30 secs, or whenever I can spare a GCD.
180sp + 2.85% crit

Uhm, i hope this isnt stupid but is there an ICD on this for how many time is can reach full stacks, to clarify, i mean if you were to get the 10 stacks is there a wait time on when it can proc the stacks again or could it theoretically keep the stacks up the whole time?

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, probably because nobody runs Sarth anymore, but I was standing in the magma and noticed that this spyglass procs from the damage done by the magma. If you're about to do a 3D Zerg, get you're procs up before you start! :D
