Going off on a bit of a nerd tangent here.

The name of this weapon, "Voldrethar", follows the style of what must either be Nerubian or Titan as it sure ain't Draconic, Thalassian nor Darnassian. Thing is that the "rethar" part is already used in the names of the different gates in Icecrown, Corp'rethar, Aldur'thar, Mord'rethar and Angrathar which obviously leads us to the assumption that "rethar" or the contraction "thar" means "gate"

Perhaps a slipup by the design team or even more likely: I should stop laying too much into stupid !@#$.

Well all the gates names would i assume be in nerubian due to the fact arthas took there arcitectual style into his own while ulduar is a titan bastion so it is probaly a different language so "thar" probaly doesnt mean the same thing.

Pity about the model, otherwise this is a good two-hander. Note for the art team: Short, leafy blades on long grips do not look good. Try a long, straight blade that looks like it might actually be useful in combat for once damnit!

It doesn’t matter what class or spec you are, if you can equip this for a main weapon (non-stat stick) and you are melee, than you will want this.

If you are a Fury Warrior, you will want to equip this twice as currently it is not unique.

So no need to say “my class weapon”, your loot system and officers will do that for you.

Good to know i'm not the only fan of a simplification of the melee class gear. I mean seriously.. It was cool in outland, because it was supposed to be an alien world. But seriously.. Inevitable Defeat looks like 1) more of an axe/mace bastard stepchild, and 2) the wooden grip, much as i like it over the typical full-metal styling, would snap just holding it, much less trying to smack someone with it.

I saw the stats for the 1st time and my heart began to pound, I looked further and saw sockets at this point I was hyperventilating...then I clicked View in 3D and all the excitement went away instantly and I exhaled with a long drawn sigh.

Very beautiful and well itemized sword, with two sockets too boot. Unfortunately, as one of the many ex-fury warriors that will be going arms for 3.1, I'll be passing on this to the DKs and the Ret Pally in my guild. Lotrafen actually looks better off the bat thanks to the superiority of Axe specialization over the crap that is Sword specialization. It will benefit them more then it will benefit us arms warriors, as long as Sword spec sucks.

I'll glady take this after the other 2h sword wielding guildies get it, though. So unfortunate that the highest ilvl 2hander thus far in 3.1 is not going to be as useful as it can be, for arms.

EDIT: Why is this getting downrated? Some arms warriors refusing to believe that this may not be BiS and might benefit other classes more?

This item is sweet for everyone but mainly for warriors,death knights,and paladins who use 2h swords.The extra 1280 health is pretty good but im going after this for the strength and the nice damage.

Armor pen got buffed in several ways for Ret. Crusader Strike's damage is a bigger portion. It's on par with crit, agility, and haste.

Of course, the real reason why Ret wants this sword is the strength. Ret scales SCARY well with Strength.

Since this does not drop off of Yogg-Saron or however you spell his name, I doubt that this is the best weapon in the game. Sure it drops on hard mode, but usually the final boss weapons by Blizzard religion are usually the best.

Since the patch I personally prefer 51/18/2 after spending hours on skull target dummies i found that 2nd most damaging attack done with blood spec is melee(white hits), thus when you increase your haste from Icy talons, you also increase your melee dps substantially. alonge with the increased runic regen and free DC's i have done 5k dps on single target level 83 encounters, as in bosses from uldar. I'm no expert but i know my own numbers so analyze this info to help yourself out (if your a dk as well) and make the best of it. Emakulate realm: Dalaran(horde)

It's funny how some people automatically label this as a warrior/dk wpn only due to the Armor Pen stats on it. Post 3.1 Armor Pen became a good thing for Ret paladins as well. Their judgements don't hit hard anymore and their melee is now usually at #2 or sometimes even at #1 for top damage in damage charts. This is because crusader strike and Divine Storm have had their damage increased greatly and they're both counted as melee damage. Couple this with the fact that instant FoL from Art of War and Repentance no longer resets melee swing timers, this is a great weapon for ret paladins as well.

This weapon would benefit a Ret Paladin just as much as a Warrior and DK. Stop the warrior/dk weapon labeling already, because it's clear that the ones doing it, haven't read up enough on the patch changes to other melee dps classes.

i currently run 51-2-18 but if you are using obliterate after 3.1 as a blood DK then you need to look at talents closer imo and if you still dont understand reroll. death strike is now your 2 rune ability as blood and will hit and crit harder than obliterate will with proper glyphs. my current glyphs are Dancing rune weapon, Dark death 15% more death coil dmg ( kind of important since you get those nice auto death coils), and death strike glyph. That being said id take this anyday over what im using.

From a PvE Retribution Paladin point of view:

- However most are hitcapped since Naxx and should not have any problems reaching it with all the +hit items in Ulduar. With/close to hitcap this will be the best weapon for a Paladin, comming in slightly above the 2200 Arena Weapons.

Oh it would benefit us retadins. But armor pen is largely still useless, the only reason this weapon is so great is the huge damage and strength it has, not to mention the two sockets.

@redhorizon09: If your white damage is your top source of damage, you are doing something wrong.

Armour Penetration, while a little bit more useful than it used to be, is still our worst stat, especially when you consider the fact that only about 40% of our damage is physical.

Stats changed for 3.1.2:

130 Str (up from 112)
145 Stamina (up from 128)
86 Crit (up from 85)
89 ArPen (down from 70)

Also supposed to be getting its speed changed (guess to 3.5 / 3.6), but not seen anything on that yet.

Faster weapon = LOWER DPS... not higher. I am not a theorycrafter, so when I need numbers I go to the pros.

A: Slow. Every .1 speed slower is equal to ~30 DPS due to SoB/JoB not being normalized; so given a choice between a 3.4 203 dps 2h and a 3.8 203 dps 2h, the 3.8 would win. Of course, weapon DPS means quite a bit to us so there is no real comparison between a 3.6 212 dps and a 3.4 226 dps weapon!

I am not saying which weapon is better/worse... just that your last line is 1,000,000% WRONG. RetPally (DPS) = SLOW weapon with high damage.

Comparing it to BoH is...just...stupid. BoH is a weapon from the perhaps, easiest dungeon ever in WoW and Voldrethar is from hardmode in Ulduar.

I believe this sword will make warriors happy, its been a long time since we actually had a sword to pick up, instead of axes. With BIS gear, this weapon will probably beat other weapons or atleast "competitive" vs furious sunderer.

@Masterofmymind - The reason almost all blood specs that spec into RP mastery is so that Dancing Rune Weapon lasts longer.

And for Death Strike damages to be higher. The glyph doesn't work as the tooltip for it says.
1% per 5 RP, so at 130 rp, that's 26% damage increase.

It's only a 6% increase on DS damage, but it IS a reason I've seen Blood DK's in the past spec that way.

Well, I just saw a post that was saying this weapon is not for Retribution paladins... granted, I do not run a Ret. pally. I'm running a warrior, was Arms for a little while at the patch but then I realized that I just couldn't stand that spec, no offense to Arms warriors out there, it's just not for me, so I went back to Fury. Anyways, to the point, I would have absolutely no problem if a Retribution Paladin was to roll against me for this. It's just like the debate that was happening before the patch, I had some Hunter telling me that I shouldn't be able to roll on Betrayer of Humanity if it dropped, and I had to use weapons that added to Strength. Stat wise, it did agree more with a Hunter, but it still boosted the DPS of a Fury Warrior by a bit, and was named the best weapon in the game for us to get. So it was not something I was going to give up on. It's the same idea with this weapon as it is with Betrayer of Humanity. You might say that the Mace has better stats for Paladins, and I don't know !@#$ about paladins, so I can't really argue... but if they wanted to roll on this against me, by all means. I'll kill them if they win, but they can roll! Considering that boost of DPS adds enough to make it all completely worthwhile.

In response to everyone who said that a sword with more weight in the tip is pointless, I would encourage you to actually learn a bit about swords. A sword can be designed along three main lines. It may be designed to be a thrusting weapon, a slashing weapon, or a chopping weapon. Generally, most swords naturally fit into two of these designs. A longsword is an example of a sword that can be use both for thrusting and for slashing. Chopping swords are rarer, because it is easier to get the materials to make an axe, and an axe is a fine chopping weapon. Voldrethar is a sword that is optimized for chopping, with a large broad tip. Realistically, a sword like this would be unwieldy, but as warcraft is a fantasy world, magic is a facter that can not be ignored. Thus, voldrethar is not a a result of poor design, but rather a result of a design of a sword for a method of use not generally associated with swords.

p.s. Voldrethar does NOT look like a roman gladius. The gladius was a straight sided short sword. Voldrethar has more in common with a greek broadsword from the bronze age.

what an intelegent reply, my main is a paly, and I go for stats that I need, and playing different classes also brings a different state of mind it seems....hunters think everything was made for their class, for their spec, and for their race and tend to need on everything, expect the good ones. paladins like me though (i've noticed) only go for the best, and when I'm in a raid, I only take the very best improvement to my weapon in that raid or I admit that I don't want stats that another class may benefit more from (hunters with int?)

man....I wish we ret paly's had more weapons that actually fit our class, I mean, come on, nerf us and give us weapons already, earthshaper seems to be the only GREAT paly choice, because this has armor penetration, and it's not that I don't want it...it's that a warrior would do much better with their armor reduction affect....and there's no such thing as a super strenght hunter, that's called a ninja, they make up name like int hunter or strenght hunter....we just call them huntards...

In case anyone was turned off by some of the uploaded pictures; it should be noted that the colors of the jewel at the end of the hilt and the center jewel above it are not blue. They are actually a red-orange kind of color, matching with the rest of the blade. There is only one uploaded picture for this sword that displays the color accurately as it is now (5.4).

This weapon's appearance is bugged as of 7.0.3. The inner portions of the side of the blade no longer glow brighter periodically. Instead, there is now a strange, white shimmer that travels the length of the blade repeatedly. It has kind of destroyed this transmog for me until it is fixed.

Been killing the General for weeks (on 10+ alts) and I have not seen this sword once. Matter of fact, I have Mimiron's Head from farming this sword. Can anyone confirm if you get this weapon w/o doing the achievements? IIRC, hard modes made more or extra items drop.

I did some digging on the internet and found my answer. Wowhead says you can get this sword on Normal mode because Ulduar doesn't have a heroic selection. I remembered all that but what I didn't remember was you have to let the Saronite Animus spawn, kill it, then kill the General to get Voldrethar to drop.

So... you pretty much have to do Обожаю запах саронита по утрам (25 игроков) every time.

Ive run this raid over 70 times across all my alts... Armory my toons if you dont believe me. Everytime I check, the drop chance of this thing keeps dropping and its rediculous.

Can you tell me if the sword comes in the chest? I have defeated the boss in "hard mode" more than 20 times and there is no loot in the body or a second chest. I think he has some bug.

Just got this sword today. It came in the chest after I let the Saronite Animus spawn and then kilt it before the General. Wasn't sure it still existed but, it does folks. Good luck!

Still drops. Let the cloud of saronite vapors coalesce 5 times or whatever, killed the green puff monster, and looted this dark beauty from the chest. Been farming this for literal years off and on and it's finally mine. :)
