This might be character specific, but a lot of the JCs I know, are also Enchanters. The two professions work pretty well together. This ring is a great way to level up both simultaneously. It dusts into a lot of valuable materials, and is cheap to make.

Furthermore, the lvl 400 JC hurdle is that much easier as it does not require 40-50g blue gems per skill level. You can learn this ring at 390 and it is orange up till 410, however I was able to get 100% skill ups up till 418 (of course, that will very from to person to person, I was just lucky) Even with a few non-skill up crafts, this pattern will save you money and time in the long run.

And to top it all off, the ring with a good gem is very nice for any one looking to raise their viability as a tank. My Death Knight is loving it.

As for the down ranking of posts that have said this already, it seems there are people on WoWHead who do not like good information shared, information that may cause others, rather than the down rankers, to make money.... rather sad IMO.

This item seems to be bugged, or else my interface is.

The socket bonus does not give me 4 defense RATING, but instead gives 4 defense SKILL. making this a very good item, unless it's just a tooltip error on my character screen.

The ring is definitely bugged in a good way. I don't know if it's the socket bonus that is bugged or something else, but I get a total of 41 defense rating from the ring (socketed with a blue gem), so there is an extra 21 defense rating coming from thin air. I got a ring that should have been an upgrade, and suddenly I was not defense capped anymore, which is why I noticed.

I don't mind of course, but now it will take even longer to replace this ring!

Confirmed.The socket bonus gives 4 defense SKILL indeed , instead of 4 defense rating. Note that this still remains the same in patch 3.2.

EDIT: It appears that the problem has to do with the character sheet rather than with the actual item. After a relog the numbers were right. A GM confirmed that it is working properly.

Depending on your server, this can be a fantastic moneymaker if you also have enchanting (or have a friend who does). If:

.75*4*(infinite dust price) + .22*1.5*(GCE price) + 0.03*(DS price) - 2*(EE price)

is positive, you'll make money in the long run by crafting and disenchanting these. Using wowhead's average values, there's profit of about 8.6g per ring - quite a nice deal. But be sure to check your server's going rates, of course.
