The expansion version of Relentless Earthstorm Diamond. Which was used as the main DPS gem for physical DPS classes. I doubt anything will change.
This gem's requirements are half of the originals.
In terms of crit the pure 21 crit rating might be better for Enh.
Although it depends alot on hit rating how much space you have, to gem 2 blue ones.
Since the cirt rating, coming from agi and int wasnt fused together, it depends alot on, how much is the diffrence between melee and spell cit to optimize your gear.
as far as i'm browsing gems, this one seems to be the best meta for rogues. except the fact that it requires yellow gem which doesn't seem to be quite around for rogue's sets/armours.
also fills the whole meta req with one gem.
It is most probably because in BC sockets were spammed on almost every blue item. In Wotlk, there are far fewer sockets on items and far fewer items with sockets
EDIT: this is response to Hotman96 's post
Wouldn't the Chaotic Skyflare Diamond (crit instead of agilty) be more worthwhile for enhancement shamans than this one? Yes, you lose 21-23 AP from the loss of agilty, but you are getting both melee crit AND spell crit from the Skyflare.
If you're 100% min/maxing this is superior to the 21 crit meta in almost all pve dps situations. DKs, warriors and paladins will easily make up the crit. Changing from a perfect crit/stam gem + chaotic to a perfect crit + this will result in more crit. The effects are a bit more when you're using blue gems.
The only caveat I can see is if you're in need of stamina for some reason or you really want to hit a socket bonus (most cases, the full dps gem will still be better).
Currently the best meta for PvE Fury, the socket bonus does get fulfilled with Enchanted/Nightmare Tear, so i just used that with the rest strengths. As for crit, like many ppl have said, warriors get 1% from 62.5 agility, this gem: 21 agi, + Nightmare: 10 agi/10str/10stam + 3.1agi from kings, +extra socket due to not having to use two soveriegns. this compared to chaotic for warriors for raiding:
.54% crit: +.08 from chaotic
extra socket: 16/20 str/arp
For hunters like me who don't have gear with blue sockets, you can use a
Eternal Belt Buckle
to socket a blue gem and be able to use this meta gem
Is the effect additive or multiplicative? I'm talking about melee classes here, which crit for 100% bonus damage. By it's wording the percent should be (200*.03)/100=6% thus multiplicative...
Not rare to see Full Apen warriors rockin this baby.
seriously, when is bliz gonna come out with epic metas? this blue is ruining my perfectly purple char pane. :-P
With the changes made on this Meta (and some of the other DPS Meta) to gem for it might actually be a DPS loss, so now it's up to us to calculate the math to see if the DPS loss from gemming for the Meta is lower/higher than the DPS we gain from the Meta bonus.
If you don't know what I am talking about read the requirement "Requires more Blue gems than Red gems" this means you need to have more Blue gems in your gear than Red. As of now most of the DPS are either all out Red gems or any dual colored gem that includes Red. But to meet the requirement after the change you will need atleast one Blue/Green gem for each Red gem you have (unless its a Purple those takes eachother out directly) then add another Blue/Green gem ontop of that to activate the Meta.
The change to requiring more blue gems than red just doesn't make sense to me. This is supposed to be a dps meta, and dps is going to gem more red. The same problem exists for the new lvl 85 gems. I hope Blizzard rethinks this.
Blizzard has changed course already:
"The current design has been reconsidered, so we're planning to revert gems that now require more blue than red gems back to their original requirements. Such a change can't be accomplished via a hotfix though, so we'll have to wait to revert these in a future patch."
The 4.0.3 change is really awful, and makes me wonder what Blizzard was thinking. Most physical dps classes aren't gemming blue gems because it's just stam or hit for us now, and after hit cap, I gem for straight agi. What other meta could I even get?
What the hell were they thinking when they did this, would basically mean you see feral cats having to run around gemming full stamina.
However, its being changed back:
The current design has been reconsidered, so we're planning to revert gems that now require more blue than red gems back to their original requirements. Such a change can't be accomplished via a hotfix though, so we'll have to wait to revert these in a future patch.
So the question is what meta is everyone using until they fix this? If any.
I'm glad they're reverting the change, because it's absolutely ludicrous. It makes zero sense for the best meta gem for my spec (feral cat dps) to require that I gimp EVERY OTHER SOCKET in order to activate it.
And once it's reverted (may have already happened, I haven't checked), this still appears to be better then any Cata meta for a feral druid.
Currently there is no yellow gem requirement. Just more blue than red.
(Version 4.0.3a build 13329, release, 17 Nov 2010)
The "More blue than red" requirement for this still exists. When that requirement goes away, this gem will increase in value substantially, becoming the best meta for a majority of rogues and ferals. As long as you meet the gemming requirements of this it is the best for agility based DPS, even with a relatively low crit %. However, even with new requirements it will probably not be worth it to gem for this if you are required to twist your otherwise ideal existing gem setup to do so.
With the upcoming patch 4.0.6 Blizzard are
reverting this meta gem, but rather making it better than it was previously. The requirements will now be '3 red gems' which will make us kitties no longer forced to put in some stupid
-ish gem. However, using this meta gem in Cataclysm will not be optimal, as Blizzard are now releasing new JC recipes, coming with the same patch, amongst them Agile Shadowspirit Diamond (which currently does not exist in Wowhead's database), which will be the Cataclysm equivalent to this gem.
Currently Requires at least 3 red gems on live 4.0.6,
Best Alternative until Agile Shadowspirit Diamond is more affordable and variable.
This meta req 3 RED GEMS only now. 1 YELLOW REQ has been removed from reqs. Please update tooltip :)
According to the latest changes to patch 4.3.3 its the yellow gem is no longer required, now it's only 3 red gems.
Relentless Earthsiege Diamond
+21 Agility and 3% Increased Critical Effect
3 red gems required
I thought that it would be good to say this since not everything is up to date here.
