This is an excellent gem for any tank. It's a replacement for the Powerful Earthstorm Diamond, giving more stamina, and +armor instead of stun resistance. Also of note, stun resistances have been changed to less time stunned, which might be a reason for the change in this type of gem. If, however, reducing stunned time is more important for you than armor, there is another version of this gem, Powerful Earthsiege Diamond, that gives you the same stamina but -10% time stunned instead of +2% armor.

yes, that too, but if I count right then a tank with exactly 21k armor would get additional 420 armor so i think that IS a very good meta. And that 32 stamina? awesome. Plus if the tank is a jewelcrafter himself and is not lazy, he would craft himself additional 5 Solid Dragon's Eyes which is 237 free stamina. Unfortunately i do not know the exact calculations about how much of stamina is how much of health so i do not want to be a wise guy and am not recalculating that free stamina into health. Do it yourself if you will

The other major tanking option is Effulgent Skyflare Diamond.

Gem requirements are identical, so it's a straight either/or. Personally, as much as I've always been a fan of more armour, I'm going to be going with the EFD on my tankadin.

Also interesting to see Bliz making some meta's which are close to must-haves for tanks.. suddenly helms without meta-sockets really don't hold up so well.

can a druid tank who has actually socketed this confirm, that the 2% increase is in fact affected by the dire bear armor multiplier? if so, its awesome, if not its just a great gem :)

The 2% is definitely multiplicative with a Warrior's Toughness talent, and hence presumably also with the pally equivalent.

Unfortunately armory doesn't seem to record the buffs people log out with anymore & none of the (very few) ferals in my guild are using this meta... but it would look somewhat hopeful for druids.

EDIT: Ghostcrawler has specifically mentioned this gem in a blue post, cunningly titled Upcoming Hunter Changes, Part III (don't ask me, spose he had hunters on the mind at the time). According to his post, this *is* multiplicative with Dire Bear form, Survival of the Fittest & Thick Hide, and will continue to be after the upcoming changes to feral druid armour. As GC puts it later in that thread:

The meta gem increases all your armor so it's just a 2% bonus to everything. You want this gem. Fortunately it is not a rare drop like some of the other gear so we know you can get it.

This Gem does indeed work with the additional armour gained from bear form.

At level 80 with 23196 armor as a Warrior I gain about .4% less damage taken.

does not multiply armor of items in neck slot. Probably also true for items in weapon, ring or trinket slot.

This is the same change that affected bears - bonus armor on staves, rings, etc. is not affected by armor multipliers.

it's funny noone noted Armored to the Teeth when they were talking about the upside to the +2% more armor.

say you have a base armor of 20,000

20,000 * 2% = 400 <-- from gem
20,000 * 6% = 1200 <-- from toughness
(20,000 / 180) * 3 = 333.3r AP (or 333AP rounded) <-- base ap from AttT
(1600 / 180) *3 = 26.6r AP (or 27AP rounded) <-- bonus ap from % boosts

therefore:
333 + 27 = 360 bonus AP from AttT + Toughness + this Gem

which translates to:
360 / 14 = 25.7 additional DPS.

not to shabby of an increase, on top of whatever your AP is from your strength + other modifiers, this could scale pretty high very quickly.

***NOTE***
my math might be a tad incorrect, it's 10AM and I'm in the office, but it should be pretty close to accurate. If anyone has any corrections I'm open to fix my math :)

I would say this is good for a bear tank and nothing else. Other tanks don't get nearly the armor multiplier, and let's face it, 2% less damage from spells > 2% more armor unless you're feral

Umm.... If you're NOT Feral, then how the hell are you a Bear tank?
