As a Paladin tank, this item could be fairly useful until you start raiding. It has a 50% proc chance, so pretty much, every minute you absorb 1100 damage. While not as useful as some trinkets, I can see this being a decent "alternative" if you can't get the one you want to drop. Also will be useful for arena/battlegrounds for healers and casters.

I like how it looks like a ghetto blaster.

Engineering in WotLK will be so much more fun, and handy than BC, in addition to extracting motes and making bombs, imagine this:
Being able to shoot a rocket from your gloves once a minute with
Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket
A parachute every minute, embroided into your cloak:
Flexweave Underlay
150 % sprint every 5 minutes with
Nitro Boosts
on your boots.
Carrying around a multi-tool that ALSO serves as jumper cables:
Gnomish Army Knife
Also it's nice to be able to make trinkets such as the
Noise Machine
and the
Sonic Booster
And there might still be more =)
*EDIT*
150 % sprint nao ?

This now requires 420 engineering to learn.

This actually procs quite often and stops you from having your cast time interrupted. Dunno how it will stack up to end game trinkets but for leveling up, farming, and grinding this is really nice for say fire mages who scorch spam mobs at melee range. Not to mention the +63 spellpower is awesome for all casters.

The spellpower bonus of the trinket is nice, but the shield absorbs way to little, if you ask me. They could had made this alittle more powerfull, considering people will crit higher, therefor 1,1k wont be that much of absorbtion in level 80.

Engineering Reivew of a Frost Mage
As soon as I learned this I wanted to make it and here is my review of it.
Stats
: The bonus spell power is awesome! Quite high for the most part and is a decent trinket to have when leveling
Shield
: 1100 Damage, not a HUGE amount but still a nice effect.
-Has a decent chance to proc, I wouldn't be able to tell you the percent but when I am actually hit it procs I would say more than half the time.
-The shield can not proc unless you actually take damage from a melee attack (Doesn't proc with my ice barrier already up)
-Duration the duration of the buff is fairly short I would say about 30 seconds but that might be stretching it, honestly it be better if it lasted aslong as the rest of my shields 1 min. Though I doubt this is an issue with other casters seeing as 1100 damage is probably absorbed much quicker with no other defensive shields to assist it.
-CD the proc once every min feels rather weak considering it lasts maybe 30 seconds and that shield can be blown through in a few seconds.
Last Thoughts
: A weaker version of the Darkmoon Card and engineer only, the shield should absorb more and have a shorter CD. Honestly though good for a few levels until you get a better trinket or not even so if you have better trinkets so that not to justify even making it.
Well thats what I think, please tell me what the rest of you guys think.

This item totals 30-34 Cobalt Bars to craft (as well as some elemental mats), an expensive way to level to 330, but the cheapest orange recipe available?

These are great for levelling engineering, as they only require cobalt and crystallized earth+water - some of the easiest obtainable materials in Northrend.

Total Mats required:
Noise Machine
30-46 Cobalt Bars (depending on rate of bolts)
2 Crystallized Water
2 Crystallized Earth
For it's counterpart
Sonic Booster
33-36 Cobalt Bars
2 Crystallized Water
4 Crystallized Earth

After looking into this you can see that the this trinket will create a
Sonic Shield
that has a 50% chance to proc and last for 12 seconds. This shield does prevent spell intrupts for 12 seconds or until 1100 damage has been recived. after some testing I have found that althogh you can use 2 of these they don't stack but 126 spell power is nice when you don't have any other better trinkets.
More information see:

The shield generated by this is prioritized before Mana Shield, meaning if both are active under fire, Sonic Shield will go down first.
Try it out with other shields :) (Power word, Ice barrier, etc)

Switched this in in place of the scryer gem for my lock to level to 80 and for solo grinding/questing it's a really useful trinket. The passive spell power is always good but the shield is really nice for dealing with decent crits that pull the mob off your pet since unless you're dealing with elites the 1100 shield is enough to absorb 2+ hits giving plenty of time for pushback-free shadowbolts to finish the mob off.

Just in case anyone cares ... while you need 420 Engineering to craft a Noise Machine, only 390 Engineering is needed to equip it... meaning that you can equip this as early as level 50 if you are a Gnome (+15 Engineering racial bonus)! Well if you got someone to craft if for you that is.

Just a note: As an Arcane Mage this shield does surprisingly work with the Incanter's Absorption talent.

I just made two of these for my holy pally along with one of the sonic boosters.
He's lvl 71, and that huge SP for having TWO really helps with healing for instances.
Swap one out for the sonic booster and you've got a nice lvling combo, just pop the second noise back on for instancing
Perfect pre-uberloot and for lvling.
Easy mats so they're good for skill ups as well, AH the spares so those twinks can buy 'em up.
If you're horde like my pally, neut AH wins.
Also, as a lvling holy pally, the shield proc really helps if I aggro too much.
Overall, great trinket.

This is actually a pretty cool trinket. It has an excellent proc rate. 1100 isn't really much in terms of endgame PvP or PvE, but for everything else, it's actually surprisingly nifty. Having it occur basically once a minute is pretty awesome.
And 63 spellpower on a trinket that is this easy to craft? You're not going to find much better until you've been 80 for a while.
A less practical, but thoroughly amusing use for this trinket is running low level instances. You'd be surprised how long it takes low level mobs to do 1000 damage, even in instances as high as SM. As a Warlock, taking zero damage from the huge group I've herded is quite fun to watch.

I made two of these on one of my higher level toons for my shadow priest as she levelled. As soon as she hit 390, i threw the pair on, and the additional 126 spellpower is amazing. It also allows a more liberal use of shadow word: death, which is a nice unimplied addition.
Must have to a levelling shadow priest!

Perhaps for lower levels, but @ 80 this item is utterly and completely useless (atleast in pvp). 1100 dam absorb, is laughable. It's a good item to create, however, to train your eng @ 425+

Ультраскопические очки обнаружения
,
Наручники дриады
(with 15sp on it) and two of these babies.. I can't do full dps in dungeons.. :-)
