Hmm, is there any reason why this is one-handed, I thought that all the tanking weapons were main-hand. Dual wield tanking?
Комментарий от
earthson
It seems with most main handed weapons becoming one handed, and 99% of tanking weapons are one handers, DK's that are tanking will most likely be dual-wielding, faster swing than a two-hander to pump out more threat, in less time, and a faster recovery from a dodge, parry, or miss, if you not hit capped. so this is with no question an amazing tanking weapon for all tanks(except bears), not just prots.

Love this weapon.
And oh, regarding tankingweapons being one-handed. Probably a way also for Warriors at least to have a nice off-hand weapon for soloing/farming. Not awesome of course, but certainly better than odd heroic stuff is my guess.

This weapon has the highest top end damage in the game for weapons under a 2 second swing timer as far as I can tell. That being said, it seems the best application of it would be in the hands of a reckoning spec protection paladin. the only exception to this would be using a 2.5 speed weapon with improved windfury totem and swift retribution buffs on the paladin. Not sure if any other classes have consistent haste buffs. Regardless, self buffed, this is the best suited reckoning weapon by a long shot.

The primary reason DW is generally frowned upon for tanking is because since you'll be getting a lot more hits in, unless you're expertise capped, you'll be getting parried a lot more often. Parries, of course, haste the boss's next attack, which is obviously a bad thing.
This
More attacks in equals mroe chances to be parried, on my tank I haven't gotten to many parries(not experties capped atm) but when I had a lot worse gear than I have now i used to have issues getting parry gibbed and dieing fairly instantaneously.

According to the spreadsheet of the 4 epic tanking weapons i know about (for Warriors, Paladins, and DW Deathknights), this is the best of them all, assuming that you have the basic tanking requiirements for raiding already, which you should, since this is coming from Naxx 25
Spreadsheet
Breakdown:
-- Highest Stamina
-- Highest Strength
-- Third highest Defense (6.3 defense compared to 7.73 defense (
Red Sword of Courage
) & 8.74 defense (
Broken promise
))
-- Highest Avoidance (0.69% parry compared to .66% dodge (
Slayer of the Lifeless
))
-- Second Highest hit rating (0.73% hit compared to 0.79% hit (
Red Sword of Courage
))
-- Highest DPS
As a protection paladin who is over the def cap, this is pure win. Since
HotR
does 4x your main hand's DPS as holy damage, this fits extremely well with protection paladins, as it has the highest DPS of the tanking weapons I compared. It even gets better because of the sheer ammount of Stamina & Strength it has, which increases our BV, AP, and SP (assuming you have
Touched by the Light
) by a decent ammount, which helps us keep threat up.
Last laugh has the biggest avoidance of any of the four tanking weapons, which makes it even MORE valuable.
As well, as long as your defense is roughly at 546, using this compared to another tanking weapon should still keep you defense capped.
Last laugh has only .06% less hit than the leading hit weapon, the
Red Sword of Courage
. Thats a very small amount of hit lost if you grab this over the Red Sword
It doesnt look half-ass either...
In short, this Axe is WIN
(If you see any problems with this, please let me know... im going to assume that someone will find something wrong with this though)
(Edit 1: added some stuff to make it smoother)
(Edit 2: used percent values to the "breakdown" list instead of raw rating numbers)

Best in slot for a DW DPS DK.
Комментарий от
10334
I'm not sure why Mizh00's comment was downrated.
This is absolutely the best weapon for a dual wielding DPS DK, for a couple reasons:
It is 15 DPS higher than
any
one-hander in the game, except
Calamity's Grasp
which DK's can't equip.
It has favorable DK stats (strength and hit), especially compared with the rest of the melee one-handers which
all
have agility and attack power, which DKs benefit less from.
Saying it is the best weapon for a dual wield DK does not mean it isnt the best weapon for most tanks. It can easily be best for everyone. I won't debate with anyone about whether this should go to a tank or DPS first, as that is a decision that is best decided by the needs of your guild, but the facts remain.
It is absolutely great for tanking, and it is absolutely best in slot for dual wield DK DPS.
Комментарий от

Is this not right? Or does no one think that a Death Knight dual wielding these would be beneficial?
So the question keeps getting asked, but no one replys, but everyone downgrades.
It is a logical question and if you don't know please
don't
downgrade. Is this something a
tank
spec dual wield Death Knight can wear in both hands? I understand prot Warriors and prot Paladins would be upset if a DK got this twice before they had a chance to get it once. So I understand you are probably going to hit downgrade to show those ugly DK's a lesson for rolling on your gear. However put your judgements and prejudisms aside. Let's not treat this thread as if we are on Thottbot. Your officers will hand out gear to who diserves it anyways based on your loot system. All I want is just a yes or a no.
So very simply, please don't downrate this unless you can reply with a yes or no.
Is this something a tanking DK can dual wield in both hands?

Tanks have 2 jobs.
1: Tick off the thing enough to not want to go squish the clothie in the back pumping out horrendous DPS.
2: Survive the experience of doing #1.
What does DW do?
A: Reduces your chance to hit with BOTH weapons by 19% for white attacks. Yellow attacks are still at the standard 9% rate.
B: Increases the amount of attacks you generate by adding an extra weapon.
Now, remember point 1?
Unless your DK can make up that hit percentage loss, they are not going to his as often with either weapon. This leads to less threat and an overzealous person nearby might not enjoy that. The special strikes are based on weapon damage per strike, not weapon DPS. So this fast weapon will not generate a ton of threat either in that regard. Look at a comparable weapon:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40384
The minimum damage on this 2-hander from the same boss is twice as much damage as this weapon. The threat from strikes from that weapon will far outstrip using 2 of these.
Remember point 2?
You are swinging a lot more than you would be with other weapons. Using the previous weapon each of these weapons will swing twice in the time that swung once. You have just increased the chance to get parried by 4 attacks to 1. Parries haste bosses which then swing back faster, the difference in damage spikes exists and while it is overstated by some, it is a factor that should be considered. The only way to avoid this is to be expertise capped on parry, which is a huge amount or at least close enough that the difference is minimal.
So, to use these in DW as a tank, you have to increase your hit and expertise to some pretty high levels to make up for the loss in hit and the increase in parry chance. Considering you can grab the DPS 2-hander from Kel and slap a rune enchant that is designed for 2-handed tanking a DK that takes 2 of these is not likely to be more effective.
TLDR:
"Is this something a tanking DK can dual wield in both hands?"
Yes.
Is it something they should?
No. Sorry.

I just want to say this, yes a two-hander would be better then dual wield due to the miss rate. Since you would have to stack too much expertise and hit for it to be good at all.
BUT, as far as the parry goes, with parry gibbeling that you are so quick to pull out.. Well consider that a death knight tanks mostly with spells, which can't be parried. Also rune strike can't, neither can frost strike.
Just keep that in mind next time you want to blame parry ;)

So.... if DK's tank mostly with spells, then the main parry-able ability will be your melee swings. And your melee swings are exactly what you'll be doing a whole lot more of, both because 1h weapons attack faster and because you're attacking with 2 weapons. So what was your point again?
DK's tanking mostly with spells makes the problem worse, in relative terms, than it would have been if they tanked with various parry-able abilities. Because then, even a 2H DK would be generating a significant amount of parries and DW would imply a lower relative increase in the amount of parried attacks.

Long time reader, first time poster here. And being a Duel Wield Death Knight Tank, I have quite a bit to say on this matter.
For a start, anyone who thinks that Duel Wield Death Knight Tanks have low threat is a joke in all honesty. One you have
reasonable
hit rating and expertise cap, with reasonable being anywhere in the 294 region, you can out-threat anything. My average threat-per-second is around the 5.9-6k marker, and on bosses like Patchwerk, Malygos, or Thaddius, I'm pumping out nearly 11k. Currently, I am using
Last Laugh
by two, reason being that my guild have never seen
Broken Promise
drop. It's true to say that I will upgrade once 3.1 comes out, as being a Dwarf, I get some handy expertise from one-handed tanking maces. But, to draw some light on the matter, there is no issue
at all
with a DK using two
Last Laugh
s. The 1.6 weapon speed in both hands allows for high proc chance of KM while white hits are still in high numbers giving you awesome threat regardless.
My
Last Laugh
s both have the
Accuracy
enchant, which gives me an additional 50 hit rating, though I will be replacing one of those with one of the newer Ulduar enchants.
Blade Ward
gives you 200 extra parry and makes your next parry deal 600-800 additional damage, and PTR has shown that the proc chance is somewhere in the 30% region, which is extremely nice. I find that the Runeforging enchants like
Rune of Swordbreaking
, while useful when starting out, quickly lose their charm. Yes, 2% parry is a lot, but 200 proc is more than 2%, and with a 30% proc chance, it seems that this is going to be a more favorable enchant for me, seeing as the parry damage will give you additional threat.
To stay on topic, weapons mentioned for Death Knight Tanks like
Betrayer of Humanity
or
Inevitable Defeat
are hard to get hold of, especially if you use any decent DKP system. For example,
Betrayer of Humanity
dropped once in all our Heroic Naxxramas runs, and the DKP bid was horrendously high, seeing as it's the most sought after weapon for Titan's Grip Warriors, Retribution Paladins, DPS Death Knights, and Hunters (apart from
Black Ice
).
Inevitable Defeat
on the other hand, is a trash drop, which I've never seen it drop. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's irritating to see people say "Why don't you get
Betrayer of Humanity
or
Inevitable Defeat
, or get a
Broken Promise
for your Main Hand weapon?" In truth readers, "It's easier said than done." Death Knight Tanks, whether Duel-Wielding or Two-Hander Tanking, are always going to be met with "Oh my God, I can't believe you're using that. A Warrior would be better with that." or "For F**k Sake, you just ninja'd a Retribution Pally weapon."
Someone said earlier that people need to show their tanks some love, and I agree. If you have a Death Knight Tank, whether Duel-Wield or Two-Hander, you need to accept that they can tank both ways. People say that Two-Hander is superior to Duel-Wield, yet my Omen states otherwise. Maybe it's a bad Death Knight Tank, but I've come across a lot, and out-threated them. To refer back to the above point, some DPS confront Death Knight Tanks with hostility for impeding on their loot, and other Tank classes (Warriors and Paladins) do the same to Duel-Wield Tanks for getting their potential loot. Death Knights are always going to be in this scenario, but it's better for all of us if people will eventually understand that Death Knights are not going away, and it's as much their potential loot as it is yours.
/end rant.
EDIT: Just with reference to Parry Gib. You can only get Parry Gib'd if you aren't Expertise Cap, with cap being 26 Expertise for a Death Knight, both Two-Hander and Duel-Wield. This argument becomes completely null & void one you hit cap. And with hit rating cap at 700, of course your gonna have a couple of misses, but having a decent hit rating as well as hitting fast, you pretty much overcome many difficulties that would render you inferior to Two-Hander. Yes, many attacks are based off weapon damage, but the majority of your procs, most essential being
Killing Machine
, you overcome the "supposed" loss in threat.

This axe seems to be "best out there" tanking weapon, however I would say that this is only half true. Prior 3.1 this had Highest DPS no questions asked.
Now when 3.1 is out, there are still groups to naxx25 on regular basis, so getting this maybe possible.
However, maybe it is just me, but I look the overall situation of my tanking gear while trying to determine that what actually is best situational setup. (and one thing I am starting to watch more carefully is hit/expertise cap)
Things that I take into account are total avoidance/mitigation stats(block) and Hit/Expertise(here I count also racial traits) and trying to have balance between those to boss fights, since trash is little different story.
I that light I would say that this is not "the absolute best weapon for tanking there is", rather than best for situations, where you need to squeeze all DPS out (ie. patchwerk)

I can totally imagine an awesome situation for this weapon. A rogue is mopping the floor with a warrior, then jumps up high. The warrior hurls this axe up at him, but the rogue dodges it in mid-air, and it gets stuck on a chandelier, and lands with both of daggers planted into the warrior, ensuring his death. The axe then falls on top of the rogue during his gloating.
