Добывается в героическом подземелье старых предгорий Хилсбрада (где освобождают Тралла). Дон Карлос ходит взад-перед по дороге, ведущей от главного входа в крепость к местечку Таррен Милл. Напасть надо первому, убить сопровождающего его пса, а затем и его самого. Дроп шляпы 77%.

Примечание: после освобождения Тралла Дон Карлос имеет свойство исчезать.

Эта шляпка кстати существовала на самом деле, а койот этот сопровождал Карлоса Кастанеду (Человек, в честь которого назван нпц) и являлся его "союзником" помогая и давая советы в сложной жизни индийского шамана.

6 ранов в нормале - нет шляпы, 1 в гер - сразу упала.

My group killed him, ran out, switched to normal from heroic and back again, and ran back in, and he wasn't there. Additionally, if we dropped party and reformed, still nothing. Disbanded and each of us tried to run in solo and could see everyone in the group as if we were still in the party. Did anyone else experience this?

Three manned it with a fire mage, demo lock and resto shaman. Killed Don Carlos three times, got three hats and now we're stylin.

Really cool to see a shaman with one, since they can ghost wolf next to it and there's just two standing there. We had four running around after we got the third hat. :D Really fun item!

This hat looks ridiculously cool on my fat tauren-ness. The wolf has the same animation as shammy's ghost wolf form, we got this for 5 shammys in our guild and had them run around in ghost wolf form with the hat's spirit wolf out, and it was pretty funny lookin.

Solo'd as a Resto Shaman, took a while. Stay max distance from Don Carlos and keep down Windwall/Stoneskin/Earth Shield, nuke the dog down, switch to Water Shield and nuke down Don Carlos healing as needed.

I just did the heroic/normal/heroic reset method, worked fine. Got a hat for everyone in my party.

Range tanked it as a warlock, fear the dog, each hit was about 2k, stay far enough away to avoid scattershot. Each hit came every couple of seconds, so any competent healer can keep you up (mine was a t4 resto shaman).

Hat's for all, Mexican sombrero party in Shattrath for all!

"Duoed" him as a holy pally in T5/MH gear, and a arms warrior in S2/S3/S4, need to kill pet first, then go on mr sombrero himself. Healer should stay at max range to avoid scatter shots.

We didn't get to reset him after that even though we did as told above, but i guess its just tough luck, mabye we moved him too far or something.

We pulled him all the way back to entrance caverns, might have had something to say.

On heroic, it's a very simple fight once you figure it out - the trick is to not get within about 15 yards of him.

I did it with myself (70 feral druid) in my healing kit, and a shadow priest. I hibernated the dog, and we both stayed as far away from Don Santos as possible, I moonfired every once in a while and let the shadow priest do the work - I just healed us when we needed it and kept the dog asleep until the fight was over, then I tanked the dog and she healed me. We added another priest and a warlock to get their hats, and it just made it all that much easier. As long as you don't get close to him, he doesn't do very much to anybody - he prefers to shoot you at range from horseback, and if left to his own devices, will do so.

We tried doing the tank/spank thing a few times earlier in the day, but any time I got close enough to tank him, he'd just scattershot me and kill the DPS. I'd invariably end up outliving the DPS in my group, but without proper DPS he won't go down, and in bearmode I couldn't hibernate the dog to keep it out of the fight.

The fight is easy if your gear is decent. Did it twice today - me tanking as druid and once with a mage and once with a resto shaman. Both times were fine because I just shape shift out of the net and get agro back asap.

However, it is my opinion that the hotfix today fixed being able to reset, though I would love a confirmation. I have not been able to reset it using any aforementioned methods today, and there was a hotfix restart this morning. The fight is fun and ez, waiting 30 minutes is a bummer.

3 manned it on heroic with: 1680 Healing resto druid, full pvp gear dps warrior, and a arms warrior with 13.5k hp tanking. i was duel boxing the warrior and the druid and still 3 manned it, hits pretty hard but it's doable

I just tried the set to heroic, kill him run out set to normal and then to heroic method.

And it worked.

Me (Shs Rogue) Prot warrior and Ench Shaman downed him with no problems at all.

Duo'ed this boss with myself (T6 feral druid) and a T6 shadow priest. He has somewhat the same mechanics as the second last boss in The Underbog (with the druid bear, and the hunter) where he resets agro after each scattershot. He will also net you in place and catch distance. Make sure you take agro immediately after a scatter shot, as he will cut down any cloth pretty fast. Easily duoable for us two with Vampiric Embrace, didn't even pull him back to the start. And no, he does not save you to the instance, and you can easily reset it by zoning out and swap from Normal and back to Heroic mode again. Cake.

Relatively easy to solo on heroic as restro shaman with ZA/badge gear.

Drop stoneskin/mana spring/wrath of air totems, ES yourself, aggro dog with lightning bolt, then pop fire ele and heroismn and burn dog down with shocks, LB and the ele.
Once dog is dead switch to water shield, keep totems up (searing replaces fire ele) and kill the Don with searing and LB spam. Heal yourself whenever needed.

No buffs used, not even food. WS procs from him attacking you is totally fine with keeping your mana up (use a lower rank not-light healing wave for healing yourself though).
Used 2 mana pots in the fight, but those were before I noticed that I can keep my mana up without them so they weren't really neccessary.

Somewhat easy to solo with my afflictionwarlock (season 1-2isch pvpgear).
Pulled him by the tower and kept on running around it with dots up on them until they died (dog first).

Kept the dog feared with fear/instant HoT and used my imp to attack Don Carlos so he used net on him instead of me.
I used about one HS and a Healthpot, Good luck getting your hat ! :)

Just hotfixed today.

Setting to normal, then back to heroic does not work anymore.

Incorrect, I just farmed a pair of these hats for a druid/hunter team following the hot fix by switching to normal mode and resetting the instance.

One thing I didn't see in any of the comments so far:
The Location!
He patrols the path trough hillsbrad foothills on his horse, together with a coyote ofcourse.
Walk from the entrance of the instance to the path and follow it 'till the bridge
(going to the left if you walk into the instance)

I've done it 4 times and 2 of the 4 times Don Carlos was patrolling immediatly at the path when u walk in.
The other 2 times it was patrolling at the bridge (the one u walk over after the 2nd, the one on a horse, too).

Today i went on my druid (who had the hat at a time) and tried to put on the hat...only to notice the hat was no longer in my inventory. puzzled i check my bank...wasn't there either. I looked down at my free bag space and it showed i had 1 free space when i exit the game the night before i remebered that i had no free bags....so this can only mean that my hat was wiped out of my inventory for some reason!

Has this ever happend to someone and if it has how did you fix it if you could fix it?

Why not.... "Prot" Pally soloable

Go in your best set of shockadin gear. Use blessing of sanctuary of course.

Kill the pet while keeping your distance from Don Carlos. Then keep your distance and start the long series of avenger's shields and holy lights. Look around and find some level 28 beast. They are now your unlimited mana pool. Whenever divine shield was up I hit avenging wrath and did some dmg. I had to find a new beast for mana though after each one.

Just a random update now that Wrath is out - a decently-geared level 80 BM hunter can solo Don Carlos in heroic.

Kill his dog super-fast, and then just DPS Don Carlos like your life depends on it.

He ended up killing my cat and started working on me, but a Runic Healing Potion and a leftover healthstone kept me up long enough to get a nice blue hat :-)

Soloed it yesterday with my firelock half epics/blues

Send the void offtank Don Carlos with CoW
Dot-Fear Guerrero and nuked it down fast while healing the void
When Don Carlos hit 50% life, burned him down and sacrificed the void at the end.
Used 1 healing pot, 1 healstone and Medallion of Heroism because he kept firing me with his scattering shot

Feral Druid - lvl 80. (Heroic for hat drop)

Once engaged, root or hibernate the dog, then simply beartank the boss. Keep your bleeds on him.
If the dog wakes up, you have a number of options:
1) If you need heals, hit barkskin and hibernate the dog THEN heal yourself.
2) If you don't need heals, wait until the boss is out of melee range and use Nature's Grasp to root the dog.
3) You can also use Nature's grasp + Frenzied regeneration if you really don't wanna pop out of bearform.
4) ?
5) Profit. Enjoy your hat!

After the boss was down I had plenty of health to kill the dog, but didn't feel like it. I shadowmelded (woohoo nightelves) and he despawned. - Loot the hat and take a screenie!

From the comments here i expected the fight to be quite harder than it turned out to be.

I'm a lvl 80 troll mage (frost spec) with full t7.5 and other nice purple bits, standing at ~2k spellpower.

I rode in found Don Carlos, rode a bit ahead - buffed up.

I then popped, Berserking (troll racial +10% haste), Icy Veins alongside Water Elemental and Mirror Image.
and immidiately after Cold Snap, so it could pop Icy Veins and Water Elemental asap if needed be.

I set it all on the dog add, and took it down pretty fast (it is only 33.3k after all)
And then turned my attention on Don Carlos himself.
My Ice barrier shield absorbs 3.3K damage, so when he finally managed to break my shield, the cd was over and i could pop a new one.
When the Mirrors died Don Carlos was at ~50%, and at ~ 30% when the Water elemental duration was over.
Popped Icy Veins and Water Elemental again, and kept nuking.

The fight in all took less than 1½ minute, and i got my blue novelty hat. :)
I was down ~5K mana and ~4K hp when the fight was over (2nd ice barrier wasn't shattered yet)

You can solo this easily as a prot warrior in heroic/Naxx 10 gear or above.

drops off of don carlos, heroic mode, 80% drop rate

u need the key of time to get in heroic mode, which u can buy from the keepers of time at honored reputation

easy way to get honored is to farm black morass and regular old hillsbrad, there is a few quests that really help with the rep grinding in old hillsbrad

if u do the quets in there, u can easily get honored with 3 runs of regular old hillsbrad, and 1 run of black morass

then, when u get honored, go buy the key, set difficulty to heroic, go in the instance, kill carlos, and hope he drops the hat

btw, the wolf u summon looks like a shaman's ghost wolf form, really cool =)

Just done thins on my DeathKnight - level 80 ofc and was really easy. got the hat, and uploaded the screenshot with the coyote out.

Kill the wolf first, then it's just tank+spank him down, or just spank if you're solo. Every so often he nets you, runs away and shoots once or twice, and he also uses scatter shot (Disorientating you).

Also, you can just do all the quests that they give you (after the attunement) and you should be honored. i reached 6000/12000 into honored.

Easily soloed as an 80 afflic lock with Hateful/Deadly/Relentless pvp gear.

Put up Demon Armor.
Chain fear the dog.
Put your VW on Don Carlos.
Dot up Don Carlos.
Pop shield when he targets you.
You CAN trinket his Scatter Shot.
Drain Life.
Loot Don Carlos.
Dot the dog.
/dance

Didn't even use my HS, healed my VW once. Lower gear consider using Circle, Healthstone, Death Coil, etc. for other last-minute tricks.

Curious thing I have found:
- Equip the hat;
- Call the wolf;
- Get on your flying mount;
- Fly diagonally up;
- At about 100? height change hat to any other;
- Land and have your wolf still with you.

Saw this on a person today and decided that I needed it. If you're neutral with keepers of time like I was, it will take about 2-3 hours, maybe less depending on class. I did it in 2hrs10min as a rogue with decent gear.

Just do the keepers of time quest chain that leads up to Black Morass and the Opening of the Dark Portal. Everything is easily soloable up to this point. The 2nd boss in Black Morass will require all of your cooldowns as a rogue as he can be quite deadly even to a lvl 80. Save your evasion cooldown until he is around 50% hp and you should be fine.

After you turn in the final quest you get after completing Black Morass you will be honored or possibly revered(I was honored but I missed a quest) with keepers of time so you can get the key to unlock heroic mode.

Once you have the key go to H Durn and find your way to Southshore and follow the road North and then East until you run across Carlos. Very easy to beat using this strategy as a combat rogue:

Stand a little ways in front of him and use Blade Fury and then Adrenaline Rush, then attack Carlos. As soon as you engage him pop Evasion. Ignore his pet because Blade Fury will make quick work of it. At one point he'll trap you in place and move away, so use killing spree on him, and then it shouldn't take more than a few seconds to finish him off with sinister strike and a quick eviscerate.

soloed this as a rogue with mostly t8.5 gear and some TOC items, as combat.
first thing you do, is sap the dog. then attack don. hes immune to stuns and disarms so you have to get him down because the net and shoot combo kills you fast. ended up beating him with 1.2k hp to spare. poison him, bleed him, expose armor him, and go all out asap. also be sure to have your pvp trinket or human racial to get out of his net.

Soloed in my Fire destro Lock with Improved Imp.

I find my tactic slightly easier then the above Warlock:

Make sure you have buffs before the fight, and be sure you have a Voidwalker out.
Start the fight by sending in the Voidwalker, and make sure he uses Suffering (AoE taunt)
Burn down his pet ASAP(You will draw aggro) You might need a potion depending on your gear.
By the time the pet is down, you'll most likely need to heal the Voidwalker with Health Funnel.
After Voidwalker is health again, Burn down Carlos, and if you draw aggro, be sure to hit Sacrifice.

I found a very effective method for soloing him as a Retribution Paladin, it takes a little bit of setup but it's well worth it.

Firstly, put all your DPS skills in the numbered key positions, I used 1 for divine storm, 2 for crusader strike and so on, I also highly recommend you make a macro for each skill to pop wings AND hand of reckoning, just incase the boss ever stops targeting you for a second. Once you have all your skills keybound, put whatever seal you want to use on: Command, Righteousness, Corruption / Vengeance (or Light if you're really bad) self buff and approach Carlos.
Now the most important part, roll over all your skills in whatever fashion you deem appropriate. Personally I have fat fingers so I just pressed all the buttons at once and got satisfactory results, some of you might like to pretend you're playing a song on your keyboard like a piano, some of you might literally roll your face over the desired selection, these are all valid tactics and I encourage you to use whichever you're comfortable with. About 20 seconds later Carlos will be dead and you can pull your face off your keyboard to right click him and receive a hat. Congratulations!

solo'd as lvl 80 dk dps with 4.2K gs.

Most important for all classes, is that pull him AWAY from the road; sometimes if your unlucky, the Lordaeron Watchers run into you and you have 3 more adds. I made that fatal mistake on my first attempt and had to wait 6 min for AotD cd.

How I did it: I popped AotD (thats army of the dead for noobs) straight away; they kept aggro pretty well. I barely DPS'ed at this stage to avoid aggro, as I lost health channeling and pulling him away. He hits for about 1-2K on dps plate wearers in T9 armor. The army of the dead pwned guerreo and got don carlos down to 50% health, but carlos killed them all. After that, I managed to hold out using the IT-PS-DS tactic. If you're good at keeping aggro to the minimum, you could DPS more during AotD tanking.

As of patch 4.0.3 it is now very easy to go from neutral to honored in about 2 hours
(it took me about 2 hours with a lvl 85 but should be about the same for lower level if you can find a group);
and then once you are honored you can buy the Key of Time
which lets you run the heroic version of the "Old Hillsbrad" instance, in which the "Don Carlos' Famous Hat" drops 100% of the time
(don't bother to run the non-heroic version the hat will not drop).

Remember even with the Key of Time you must right click
on your character's icon (top left of screen) and select "Dungeon Difficulty: 5 Player (Heroic)" before you enter the instance.

Here are the steps:

I.
To increase your reputation from neutral to honored just do this quest series:
1. Old Hillsbrad
2. Taretha's Diversion
3. Escape from Durnholde
4. Return to Andormu

II.
Here is the second quest series I did:
1. The Black Morass
2. The Opening of the Dark Portal
3. Hero of the Brood

III.
Your reputation with "Keepers of Time" faction should now be honored and you can now buy the Key of Time.

After you buy the Key of Time go back to the
Old Hillsbrad instance and right click on your character's icon (top left of screen) and select "Dungeon Difficulty: 5 Player (Heroic)" before you enter the instance.

Once in the instance just ride to straight out of the cave and to the road. Take a left once you hit the road and Don should
be somewhere on that road between there and the keep. After you kill him, if you had difficulty set to Heroic he will drop the hat.

P.S.
If you are going to be out there (in the Old Hillsbrad Foothills trying to get the hat) anyway here are some vendors that sell some stuff that is only sold out there:
1. Aged Dalaran Wizard who is the only source for Formula: Enchant Shield - Intellect.
2. Barkeep Kelly for some Rumsey Rum Black Label (Rumsey Rum Black Label gives + 15 stamina to any level player);
3. Thomas Yance sells Pattern: Riding Crop.

Despite the Coyote Spirit not being added to your Pet Book, you can easily have this out like a permanent companion without the hat.

Equip hat. Summon pet. Equip regular helm. Log off. Log on. Enjoy. :)

Though remember that since it's counted as a Companion, summoning another Companion will get rid of it.

Just to clarify a few things - when you equip your regular helm back, yes it despawns once but the new in-game feature summons your last pet so just logout with the pet despawned and your normal helm on.

Also if you have a Haunted Memento in your inventory, your last pet will not get summoned, so mail it to your alt/bank it before logging out. (Don't throw it at anyone, it's currently bugged!)

The same thing can be done with the Bloodsail Admiral Hat and various (temporary) quest companions such as the orphaned mammoth calf.

To keep your pet with you simply equip hat, summon pet, mount up, change hat, dismount. (Edit: sorry didnt read above posts)

This item is pretty fun. To really do this hat justice, you'll need the outfit to match. You're local tailor can sew you a Haliscan Jacket and some Haliscan Pantaloons. Since you're already dressed to impress, pick up some Don Carlos Tequila to make your night just that much better!

You can have 4 wolves out as an enhancement shaman with this item.

Equip the hat and summon the pet.
Que into an instance. Once inside, switch back to your main helm.
When you exit you will still have your pet coyote out.

Pop Wolves, go ghost-wolf and you will have a shaman "mirror images"
Doing 5's with 4 other enhance shaman with this is pretty funny.

After putting the hat on and summoning the pet I put my hat in the bank and the wolf follows me every where despite not wearing the helm. If I die he will also despawn and won't respawn until I go through a loading screen. Very similar to the Malmortis and elephant bug that has been going around.

FYI to Worgens: You cannot cast Running Wild while you're transformed into a human in Old Hillsbrad Foothills. Do yourself a favor and pick up a regular riding mount before going in here or you'll be walking.

You do not have to have completed "Nice Hat"

He drops Don Carlos' Hat if you are on the quest, the reward is Haliscan Brimmed Hat, to complete the mariachi outfit. Other parts of the outfit are crafted by tailoring proffesion. He drops also Don Carlos' Famous hat - 100% drop, but only when heroic.

VERY easy for a rogue, level 80 plus. You can sap his dog, and take up to the full minute to kill him. If you disarm him (dismantle) that should take care of scattershot, but as an 85 sub spec, I essentially 2-shot him with ambush, Kidney punch, Backstab. Free Sombrero!

I am 0/15 and done trying until I find out what's up. I've tried killing the dog first and I've tried him first.

Instance is uncleared when I drive up to him and kill him.
I've cleared it in the past. If you're 0/6 I wouldn't bother waiting for the "too many instances recently" thing to dissipate to try a second round.

None of the mentioned methods for retaining this companion while wearing your "correct" helm work any longer. In fact, the primary cause of their abolishment is due to the fact that, unlike other companion pets, this companion is NOT automatically re-summoned by your character as other companions are.

If you are to say equip the hat, summon the wolf, mount, fly a foot off the ground, land and then dismount, the pet would not be summoned by your character and you would have to use the hat again despite never de-equiping it. Entering an instance, dying, anything that would cause your normal companion to despawn even for an instant will leave this companion despawned permanently until you re-use the hat.

If the hat clashes with your transmogrification set or you just plain don't like it, your best bet is turning off helm animations for the time being.

Here's a quick macro for you if that's to your liking.

/equip Don Carlos' Famous Hat
/run if ShowingHelm() then ShowHelm(0) else ShowHelm() end

You can also use a similar macro if you'd like that macro button to allow you to both equip Don Carlos' Famous Hat or your own.

edit: The following is a tribute to us and what we go through trying to accomplish some of Blizzard's whacked-out achievements.

You'll get no in-game benefits/reward by doing this, but try it and find out whether it's true:

Of course, you must start out by getting a bottle of Don Carlos Tequila. It is sold on a limited basis by Boots in Area 52, Netherstorm (Outland) and Alliance only NPC Jason Goodhutch in the Howling Fjord, Northrend. No, I do not know why Blizz has once again ignored the Horde by not adding a counterpart bartender for them in the Fjord, so don't ask.

Attain one:

Haliscan Brimmed Hat* from Nice Hat...
*May be substituted with Don Carlos' Famous Hat (this page!), dropped of course by this guy.

Have a tailor make these for you:

Haliscan Jacket*
Haliscan Pantaloons*
Dress Shoes*

*Fortunately, all three of these tailoring patterns are BOE and sold by the same vendor (Haughty Modiste, Fashion Designer) in Tanaris (Gadgetzan), so you can pick them up and gift them the lucky tailor making these fine items for you.

Farm this item, x2 (Dual Wield):
Barons' Sceptre dropped by him (14%) or him (better drop rate of 21%), both in SFK.

If you can't wield a mace, this (off hand) and this (main hand) are rumored to work, but you have to wait for Noblegarden if you aren't anal retentive like many of us die-hard WoW Achivement Hounds are and have the latter stored in your bank/void storage from the last Noblegarden (or the one before, or the one before that or the one before that, etc.).

Ok, you're almost there... Now equip all these items on the next Day of the Dead WoW holiday. Wait until midnight and find your way to the highest point you can find in any capital city. Neutral cities like Shattrath or Dalaran are rumored to work, too. At the stroke of the 12th bell you must do the following, being very careful to be precise as you'll only get one chance. If you don't do it on the 12th bell you'll have to wait until next year to try again. You can make a macro which would go something like this (be sure the Tequila is in your bag!):

Good news everyone!
Don Carlos' Famous Hat can't be used as transmog..... but now it's becoming a toy in Legion!.
Now if Blizz can give Pepe a sombrero costume I'll be very happy.

Edit: On the 7.0.3 PTR this toy is available & when used never goes away until manually removed.
I have noticed however that the spirit coyote will often disappear when hearthing.
Personally I prefer this to making it moggable as no matter your armour type you'll be able to look snazzy in this at all times.

As noted, this item becomes a toy in Legion and has a 1-second c/d with an unlimited duration with the effect of appearing to be using the hat and having a coyote spirit following you around.

If however, you aren't interested in the coyote spirit, no problem (for now)! Just summon any non-combat pet you have and the coyote spirit will be replaced by it. Then just dismiss your pet and you will be back to being by yourself.
