As noted in a Blizzcon panel--check these out while its raining.
Also, I believe they do massively inflated damage to critters.

is the buff you get. And yes, these do massively inflated damage to critters, one proc nailed a squirrel for me tonight for 700 damage. But normally you'll only see mobs being hit for about 20-30 damage.

This will zap nearby mobs you arent in combat with, so be careful riding around places you plan on running though mobs. It also does not stack with the Well Fed Buffs from stat foods.

Yes it does break cc.

tested w/ 475 +dmg here are the results.
- does not appear to be directional. hits mobs in 360 deg radius.
- only hits 2 targets even if there are more around you
- does 19-31 damage with an average of 24
- crit between 29-47 w/ an avg of 39. (I wonder if talents would bump this to 200% instead of 150%?)
- out of 127 casts, 86.4 hit, 13.6% crit,1.6% resist
(not a representive sample, but more than by 11.67% crit rating from gear.) Perhaps it uses your spell crit rating, but would need more trials to make any conclusions here.
- saw some weird behavior wrt range. with one target it only procs if it is in melee range. with 2 targets as long as one is in melee range they both get hit.
so at best, 48 damage every 8 seconds, or 6 dps or 84 AP. Maybe more if you have a decent spell crit rate. Better than a sharp stick in the eye I guess. Could be useful but would need to be careful w/ cc, especially the way this works with range
before you mock my 475 damage, I did this on my feral druid who had a few +damage scraps in the bank.

Watch out using this item in a raid setting. Wiped on Mag because someone used this and it hit a channeler without the raid being ready.

Nov 28 I got this recipe from the daily quest. Made some up and tried them out by running around Swamp of Sorrows while waiting for a Kara group to start. I was getting hits of anywhere between 54-62 with one crit of 90, every ince in a while an odd low hit in the 30's. This is on my Resto Shaman...1679 healing, 635 damage. Does NOT seem to proc while not in combat so far, except on critters.

If it requires one, but not both, targets to be in melee range it sounds like its using the chain-lightning formula, with a 2-target cap. Like how mob cleave used to (and PC cleave still might).

I've tried this in a AB game guarding the Farm, sometimes it'd hit an enemy, then jump onto a critter. I tested this at Odesyus' Landing on the fast respawning chickens and couldn't get it to jump from critter to another critter.
It was hitting critters for 660-670, i turned on Sanctity aura (+2% increase to all damage) and it started hitting for 670-680. I popped Avenging Wrath (+30% damage) and it hit for 888 twice, then crit for 1814.
It wasn't raining at this point so doesn't need to be rainding to zap critters.
It works while sat down and while mounted.
Some further info, when used in a raining zone (Zangermarsh) it was zapping critters for more, hitting around 700-710.
It would not hit mobs if i wasn't in combat, as soon as i entered combat it would start zapping, it would also pull other mobs to me as long as i was in combat.
It seems to have 2 seperate attacks, 1st is the high damage against critters, this can occur out of combat (sitting/mounted) but will not jump to another critter or mob. 2nd is the "normal" damage, this will only occur whilst in combat and can jump to a 2nd target (even if this 2nd mob isn't in combat with you already). This is confirmed by looking at the spell details, it is an aura effect with 2 seperate spell effects.

Stormchops will use your spell crit and all crit modifiers and will take a very small portion of spell damage.
Getting a crit with Lightning Zap from Stormchops will build and fire charges from the Lightning Capacitor and will proc abilities such as Surge of Light (for Priests) and Clearcasting (for Shamans)
Therefore, it is advantageous to have this active during a boss fight as it will provide you with a crit chance every 5 seconds or so.
Crits from Stormchop will also proc spell crit trinkets.
The buff is dispellable and stealable.

First experience with this I crit a spider for 1729, instantly fell in love with it. Later it crit The Curator for 249 during evocation.
I really love seeing how many times I can have Lightning Zap, Vengeance (Darkmoon Card: Vengeance), Thorns and Blessing of Sanctuary all proc at the same time.

This breaks any CC, so basically it's only for soloing/grinding/questing. By the way, the best place I've found to fish-farm Lightning Eel is in Feralas, I got a stack of 20 in about 1.5 hrs (the price on Silvermoon US for these fish are now like 80g/stack after 2.3)

I'm not sure how the proc for this thing works. I used some on my rogue in a ramparts run for fun. Of the 8 times I sapped a mob, every time I hit sap it would zap them both and I'd need rescuing from the paladin tank. That's a little unusual, I don't know of anything else that hits 100% on the first hit.

You guys are talking about hits in the hundreds with crits well over 1k, I tried this today and the average hit - when I can get a hit - is between 22-30 damage, with crits for around 40.
This is on my Warlock which recently hit 70 and has about 575 bonus spell damage - but people with no spell damage (melee classes) are talking about hits 10 times the size.

These are pretty cool for solo PvE. As a rogue:
Pros:
+ Does not proc on nearby mobs when stealthed
+ Almost always procs on your opener and every 5 seconds or so after that... it has a very high proc rate
+ Has a chain lightning effect, so it hits enemies not in melee range. This is nice for mob pets and also includes objects dropped by the mob. It proced on the mines dropped by the tinkerers in the deathforge, so I would guess it also procs on totems dropped by totem dropping mobs.
+ The range of the jump isn't so big you have to worry about aggroing additional mobs. If they are close enough to get hit by lightning, they are close enough to aggro on their own, with mobs close to my level. And if they were much lower than my level, I wouldn't really care about the additional aggro, anyway.
Cons:
+ Procs on sap, so sap is completely unusable
+ Can break blind... but if you blind right after a proc you will likely get the full effect of the blind before it procs again anyway. Blind is still very usable if you time it right.
Overall this is a pretty cool food for soloing. It would be ideal for warriors or pallies or other melee classes that don't have much in the way of breakable CC. It's useful enough on a rogue even losing the use of sap. Definitely bad for any group using CC. It would be good for PvP, but I don't eat buff food in PvP since you die so frequently.

I use these on my Protection Warrior on runs for a little kick in initial threat. I typically run with as little crowd control as possible in Heroics and 10-mans, so particularly on pulls with more than four mobs, these are really nice. The first few seconds is where the pull can go wrong the easiest, and with Thunder Clap only hitting four targets, this is a nice way to get some passive threat on the mobs Thunder Clap doesn't hit. It's not a lot, but every little bit helps, especially farming old content where threat generation is actually an issue.

Kinda awsome for low level boosts, where you have to aggro the whole instance. I used this on deadmines and aggroed the instance as a hunter and let these beams kill the mobs. It's useful, just be careful this
breaks CC
and leaves a lot of people $%^&ed.

Its possible to knock a flagged enemy player out of their flying mount with these. You just have to fly close enough to them for it to proc. One day while soloing in Storm Peaks a rogue ganked me then flew way up high on his 60% flyer. While he was spamming laugh macros and acting like an idiot, I got the idea to eat one of these and /farewell him till it procced 10 seconds later (splat). Guess whos spamming laugh macros now.....

For Pet Classes
If the buff zap a mob once and the pet kills it, you will still be able to loot the corpse even though you have not actively damaged it!
The damage from the buff counts as you actively damaging the mob.

Confirmed, Stormchops WILL PROC EVERY 7.5 SECS! So that means you will shock 240 critters ( if around that many or hugging a spawn point in the Deeprun Tram. ) in 30 mins. Yes, I stood there on my mage...sitting there laughing my ass off as one rat attacks me, and it does a chain reaction ( Split attack to all units in a 7 yard range, and does around 80 dmg with my 3.4 k SP ) best to do so when mad over a BG / anything you get mad at. Very amusing when watching for 1 hour thirty minutes :D
Комментарий от
Rillyn
That split dmg is ONLY procced IF you've been hit ( 50 % chance to split dmg 20-30 to 2 random targets ( 7 yards, doesnt matter close or not, hits randomly. ) And it bases off your Spell Power / Attack Power... Alliance go to Deeprun Tram, Horde go somewhere else where critters want to die and bring others with them ;P. Happy critter killing.

Can one write a macro so that this reactivates every 30 mins? While it seems like a good idea for critter killing, it would be even better if I could camp overnight and do it.
Any of you know how to do this?
As for locations (Horde), I seem to recall a cave in the Badlands or Searing Gorge that was loaded with roaches.
Thx.
