If you get all your guild members this item you can actually indeed use the trinket on Ragnaros, tell everyone to use it at the same time and he will be disarmed :)
This item is the reward from a long series of quests that begins in Un'goro Crater. There's a wreckage of a boat in the southeastern part of Un'goro, in the lake where all the Ravasaurs hang out. Loot an item from the wreckage and it will start the quest chain.
The Legend of Zelda homage is unmistakable, and each quest in the chain is lots of fun.
To start the chain for Linken's Boomerang head to the raft at 63,68 and pick up "The Mysterious Bag" and start "It's a Mystery to Everyone". Deliver it to Linken in Marshall's Refugee and start the quest line.
The Boomerang is notable in that it is the only ranged attack paladins can use as well as being a LoZ homage.
I do not reccomend that anyone should bother to get this item. The damage it causes it low, and while the proc may look very appealing, it procs are extremely rare. When I had it I would use it every time my opponent got out of range and it would only proc about once every five or so battleground matches and only about once per two or three instance runs.
I could see this getting a fair amount of use by a paladin as a tool for pulling, as long as they are not specced for holy shock. However, the 3 minute cooldown makes it less useful than it seems.
I keep it in my inventory just for kicks, and I would only get rid of it if I was extremely desperate for room in my bags.
This item has a minimum range of about 8 yards.
Reward from the chain that starts here:
It is a pretty good trinket for the level you get it at. For non Ranged classes it can help you pull every few minutes without using ammo. It's much more useful on PvP servers and in battlegrounds. The disarm doesn't seem to proc much but the stun procs fairly often. Often enough to be worthwhile in attempting to use it to stop runners.
Note it has a 0.5 cast time and 3 minute cooldown.
Blizzard should fix it's tooltip damage or so..113-187 damage..but when i try..70-90+ damage..Is it based on the strength you have ?Cause i am a lock. But i find it a fun item
Linken = Link lmao. LoZ reference :) They should make Zelda stuff as epix
cool toy trinket but not that useful. the quest series is worth doing though....
do this quest line! i did it on my 53 rogue, after all the parts and the little bit of grinding u have to do in felwood, it roughyl 60k experience, def worth doing :D plus zelda is bada$$
dont pass it up
Linkens boomerang=Links boomerang from The legend of zelda
Please note that it CAN be used in feral forms.
Great for pulling too, or stop runners (tho the chance for stun is small, its still damage and at no cost but a cooldown)
One important thing to note about this trinket is that it isn't affected by the global cooldown - I make use of it as an affliction warlock by chucking it while casting DoTs, you can easily get the 0.5 sec cast in between two of your instants. Damage is low, but if it procs a knockdown you're laughing.
Does anyone have an estimate on the chance to disarm or knockdown?
Definately worthwhile for us Paladin.
The power of the boomerang is irrelevant, the fact that we have a ranged attack should be enough motivation to do this quest.
Pulling targets has never been easier for us :)
Does anyone know if there is any upgrade of this item? or any lvl 70-60 equivalent item?. Thnx
This item is a reference to Link's (Legend of Zelda) Boomerang. As is the whole questline. Link suffering Amnesia, etc, are all parts of the series.
He does not forget any thing he remembers it all but he has to return the sword. because in the next game (after QoT) he is in MM and hes looking for sara but he ends up in this crazy plot but he always starts some wheres new i wish they will make a game that tells the real story and keeps on going.
...perhaps THE greatest & one of THE most useful retadin trinkets a retadin could ever use when soloing or occasionally tanking with tank gear
is better for a Ret Pally to pull with, because after using it you can swap into your normal weapon (the use does not use the global cooldown).
This may actually be handy for enhancement shaman after patch 3.0.2 comes out. I often pull non-caster mobs back to my totem pile with a rank 1 lightning bolt. That will obviously not be viable after the patch when rank 1 costs the same as the max rank spell.
This trinket may fill that gap, although it may not be worth giving up a trinket spot for a bit of mana conservation.
This "trinket" is the only reason I ever even DID that Blazerunner chain of quests. I've kept it equipped ever since, and I still use it at level 80 as much as I ever did. It's the best pulling tool for a paladin. Holy shock and exorcism are good for short-range pulling, but this little thing has really good distance. Use it in tandem with your divine shield, if you need to pull a hunter or a mage, et. al. They'll run up within melee range since their attacks can't pierce your bubble.
I'll never be found without my Linken's Boomerang - it's a very vital component in my arsenal. Best quest reward I ever got.
/cast Linken's Boomerang
/cast <what ever you want>
it will make a good combo with a melee or a ranged attack and even tho its only 113-187 its still more damage on top of what ever attack you macro it to its still a good trinket for any class and unless you have both of the bind on account trinkets this is still the number 1 thing you shoudl pick from this quest line due to the fact that you will not replace it for a long time
<3 the animation :D
i dunno y (mayb its a bug) but immidiately after i use the boomerang the target i use it on loses its focus on my pet and targets me but only 4 a second then goes back 2 my pet
and yes i am aware that a hunter should not b usin this but i figure at lvl 55 who really cares?
My lvl 70 Warrior uses it in Northrend, and it's a badass way to pull mobs. I've gotten so many requests to help others get this item and i'm betting i'll never find a better upgrade that does the same thing.
Plus, when your raid group tells you to pull and you see that boomerang streak out to the side, flash through the mob and come flying back, most often people will be watching with deep envy. "That was fricking awesome!" is still the number one remark i get from using it, especially when it strikes AND knocks down the target.
Kudos to the users of this amazing trinket!
this is OBVIOUSLY a tribute to legend of zelda, where you always get "its dangerous to go alone, take this!"
Sadly the quest-chain to aquire this item has been removed, as of patch 4.0.3a; sad news for Zelda fans.
Ah, the boomerang. Zelda fans loved this weapon because, well, the boomerang was in EVERY-FRIGGIN'-ZELDA-GAME! It was trademark almost. I'm sad they removed it.
Why oh WHY would they remove such an awesome item?
Why did you remove this blizz bring it back .
The maximum range for this is 30 yards, as of patch 5.1.0, and there is a minimum range, below which mobs are too close and the boomerang cannot be used.
For distance mob pulls only....
