Don't know if I'd jump to any conclusions, whether they be saying BoH is destro only or the opposite. For all we know alot of talents, specifically those in the first few tiers, may be less than 5 points each. In fact, with the whole talent system being changed so drastically, the whole 5 points to the next tier of talents may end up changing.
Only time will tell.

So, with the proposed talent system, upon choosing Destruction as your specialization, you would likely be granted BoH & Chaos Bolt either from the get go or later down the line?
Seems like that to me.
Overall, I like the sound of the change. With the current system, you really don't start to see/feel the difference of the trees until you get to level 40 or higher.

i doubt either of those two would be your level 10 active ability (perhaps CB could but i think maybe my money would be on conflag). BoH would be a weird ability for a brand new player to get when they hit level 10.
it sounds like each tree will see the return of the 11-point talents.
i agree with you that i really like this idea in principle. all the stuff we've been discussing has been fine but not particularly interesting. i love my lock but i'm not at all attached to any of the trees in the way you sometimes hear mages and hunters being particularly attached to BM or frost. this kind of thing sounds like it will really promote the idea of "i'm a destro lock"(etc.) again and that can be no bad thing.

41 talent points is going to make the game far less entertaining. As it stands there's multiple specs you can use with slight variations depending on how you want things arranged. Like as a Destro lock I can get suppression, replenishment, shadowfury, etc etc. With only 41 talent points I don't see how these variations will be possible.
I guess it depends a lot more on how the trees are set up.

well it depends on what goes.
something like suppression is ideal to be in hte first tier of any tree so i'm sure that (or something based on it) will still be there.
their plan is that you don't spend 5 points on something boring when you could be making interesting decisions.
so, shadow mastery is bound to go for example. without talents like that then presumably the aim is that almost every point spent is on something that will change the way you play (or at least effect it) like the ones you mention there.
think of it as distillation.

With the added focus to single tree builds, this is the perfect opportunity for Blizzard to flesh out Demonology a bit more. Metamorphosis has a lot of unused potential imo.
The only down side of the change 41 talent points is no more SL/FG for soloing :sad face:

I love this change! Right now the game is already stupidly strict in how we spend our talents; there are good (read: Mandatory) and bad (read: useless) talents. You either have a cookie cutter (Good) or a home-made (bad) spec.
All this does is say "lolbye" to the retarded talents and makes it so there is a lot less ambiguity about what builds are good and what builds are bad. People might say the game is getting dumber; I say that useless random stuff is being trimmed.
Another amazing thing this will do is streamline the leveling process. Right now leveling an enhance shaman is dull like crazy (spam auto attack, wooo!) until you get certain key, class defining talents. Leveling a destro lock is difficult until certain key, class defining talents. With these changes, what you are supposed to do while leveling becomes much more clear. I love my alts; making leveling less of a headache and more fun is something I am all for!

Just to add: the talents that will be removed will be made a passive effect upon choosing the specialization. Or so I think/hope ^_^

You don't know that. Iirc, Siphon Life is no longer an active ability, but instead an added effect to corruption. So who knows, we might still be able to get it (though I have a feeling siphon life might become an 11 point talent ...)

It could be assumed that SiLi would be a ability you get from specializing in Affliction and that FG is something you get for specializing in Demon - therefore it may very will be the "death" of SL/FG.
Of course, the opposite could be assume as well, but it would make the early demon lock feel much more like a demon lock if FG was a specialization thing.
All depends on how they set it up.

there was a post in that huge thread that GC replied to saying that FG probably wouldn't be

demo active ability though that does beg the question of what would it be.
the reasons for it not to be seem fair - mostly that it would mean getting a FG (the only pet you ever need) before even getting your voidwalker.
mana feed would be a weak option but is a possibility. hand of guldan might be a bit overwhelming for a level 10 and meta needs to be a reward i think. demonic empowerment has the most potential to my mind but it's not incredibly exciting as abilities go.
...perhaps the demon bolt that we've heard nothing about recently?
SiLi, as a passive ability might make for an interesting option for early in the aff tree. it just seems like the kind of interesting option that blizzard wants people to make. not strictly a DPS increase but nice for PvE and PvP. i think there might be a chance for SiLi/FG yet ^_^

yeah, it's quite a facing but you can tell, reading through it, that GC has been wanting to talk about all this stuff for weeks but hasn't been able to. it's really interesting hearing a developer talking about something they're clearly excited about.
(though, the timing of this release does seem to be a clear diversionary tactic. throwing some chum for the sharks to draw the attention away from the realID fiasco.
i'm not complaining, i don't care about realID and i love hearing about this stuff ^_^)

percentages scale naturally. this is another thing they've mentioned regarding (example) arms warriors +10% 2hander damage.
thing is that meta comes with abilities and without them it's a fairly boring trinket with a nice animation (even if we don't use them much). would they really give demo locks so many new abilities at 10? similarly would they give ToL form to resto druids?

They said somewhere that they weren't going to give shadow priests shadowform at 10 because you couldn't really utilize it with so few spells, I'd assume the same would go for meta. They also said you probably won't be getting felguard as it doesn't make sense to get him before your regular demons. Looking at the talents most of them are damage boosting or stuff like demonic empowerment. While it's nice it doesn't really give demonology it's own style of play.
I was thinking they might possible put decimation or molten core as the 10 point talent as today it's really one of the big thing's that separate the demonology lock. Demonology is hard to figure out as it's always been the tree that just adds damage to your abilities, not really new abilities. With affliction they could do haunt, UA, Dark Pact, SL, even curse(bane) of exhaustion. For destruction they could do shadowburn, conflag, shadowfury, or chaos bolt. Meanwhile the only things you really learn in demo are Felguard, meta which probably won't be used, leaving you with fel domination and demonic empowerment as the only 2 non-passive spells.
However neither of those really give you the feel of playing a unique style. However molten core or decimation would give demonology a unique style right from the beginning. However you then have the problem of incinerate and soul fire not being available until later levels as well..
