For heroic mode, my disc priest was healing today. We did perfectly until the Black Knight, which was a NIGHTMARE to heal.
By Phase 3, I am almost out of mana, and every single party member is taking major damage. Throwing up 5 shields around every member, penance on tank, curing the MASSIVE diseases (good god, how do people survive without someone who can cure that?) flash healing, keeping PoM up, and Prayer of Healing when needed juuuust wasn't cutting it tonight. Furthest we got was getting the Black Knight down to 26% on the final phase.
Someone recommended going Holy for the final match (which I have been considering doing a holy/disc dual spec). Before I do, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for healing this fight, and what I might be doing wrong.
Thanks! Armory link is "Leonardo" below.

I actually found this to be the one single place where Greater Heal was useful as Disc, simply because the mobs hit through plate tanks like paper. Shield & Renew your party and then commence GH spam on the tank with Borrowed Time backing it.
Worked quite well, neither Flash Heal nor Penance were enough to counter the damage done in that place (it also seems that more than just the cooldown was nerfed on Penance, it seems to heal for much less and channel for much longer than it did before. Maybe that's just me though).

I spent tonight "beating the loot pinata" with some guildies, as Holy Priest...healed the normal pretty easily in gear from 5-mans and the easy Heroics (Nexus, UK, VH). We only tried the Heroic after we'd pretty much dried out the Normal version. I'm sorry I can't offer more disc-oriented advice =( But the Disc players here are fantastic so you'll get some good stuff.
We ran dual-healers for Heroic (Holy Priest and Holy Pally), and it worked
beautifully
. I'd suggest considering that until you've got the gear to really handle the healing load solo in Heroic. As your tank and DPS get gear upgrades that will help, too. Then you can focus on burning things down faster while having a single healer.
Save your cooldowns (Trinkets, Guardian Spirit if Holy) for Phase 3. Phase 2 if you absolutely must - though this phase is very likely to eat something like Desperate Prayer if you're Holy. But you really need to have your tools available for Phase 3. Excellent DPS is a plus since it reduces how long you have to fight that battle of attrition against all the incoming damage. I can't stress this enough but...watch your own bar! You will take a lot of damage and he drops your defensive shield (well, non-disc ones, anyway) like it is
nothing
.
Get the
Healing Trinket
from the normal mode if you don't have it already. It has a chance to give 500 mana every time you perform a "helpful" spell (which oddly, atm, includes spec-changing). The proc rate is pretty high and it seriously helps mana longevity. Heals and dispels all count, so you don't lose valuable proc chances on having to cure/dispel. Surprisingly awesome item. Hope they don't nerf that proc rate ;)

i know when i was healing it on my disc priest it wasnt too bad . it got a little hectic for a few seconds but we ended up killing him. it had been a few weeks since ive healed so i forgot what i had set my pom on healbot, but casting PW:S then prayer of healing and keep doing that over again worked out well. i saved my shadow fiend for this phase to help with mana and then once it hit i just spammed those 2 skills and pop'd shadow fiend at about 50% mana

While my healing gear outgears the fight a little bit, I did do it with a undergeared group. So the Black Knight died VERY slowly.
My suggestion is to save Divine Hymn for the third phase of the Black Knight, and Inner Focus it so it crits more. If you have a trinket with a use effect, now would be the time. After that, pop shadowfiend and spam Prayer of Healing.
For phase two, I found that having everyone group up works well, but only with high DPS. If your dps isn't all that great, group up at first, but don't have people sit in the AoE (with the arms coming from the ground). You will need to spread out and start healing up a storm. The problem is that you can't just burn all your mana and cooldowns here, because you need them for phase three. I would instruct your groupmates to gather up for 5-8 seconds max, then spread out and single target, while pay carefull attention to avoiding the AoE. WIthout that damage in the mix, phase two doesn't have much damage.
Oh, and on a more awesomer note. On our kill of Northrend Beasts in nToC10, I was not wearing any weapons. I forgot to put them back on after a previous wipe. /flex

I think Xuxa meant Divine Hymn as in the massive channeled healing spell we do, not Symbol of Hope, the mana one.
Thanks for the tips everyone. Our DPS in that run was 3k, 2k, and 1600 if I recall correctly. Plus whatever the tank did. I also ran out of potions the last time, and everyone refused to bandage themselves between phases. (Pugs ftl.)
I'll try again tonight and keep y'all updated. :)
On a side note, I just reserved the name Adam. :-o Time to make a Paladin, hehe.

Divine Hymn
If you aren't using this spell every cooldown you are doing something wrong. :)
What you are referring to is
Hymn of Hope
, which I used between phase one and phase two, just to top myself off
Maybe I'll take a couple pieces of gear off and try it less geared, and provide any tips afterwords to you wonderfull people on the priest forums. =D

Well, not like every cooldown in a manner like you would use Penance. But, in any situation with a large ammount of AoE damage in encounters when you know it is coming, or as an oh !@#$ button.
I guess what I meant to say was "if you aren't using this spell on this fight, and you are having problems healing it, then you are doing something wrong".
I mean, its just awesome to use. It makes me laugh at Loken, rofl.

OK, we totally rocked it. I did exactly what we did last night and we had no issues. I think you're right Minxette, the difference was our DPS this time around was on the money. Third phase he went down very very fast.
We had a druid tanking, fantastic tank there too.
I've run this twice on heroic, and 7 times on normal, and still not a single drop for me. :-/

Good Job man.
People always say tank and healers are main thing in group, that is true but DPS has to be great atleast 2/3 of them has to be. If dps sucks healer looses mana cause the time spent healing the slow group who takes long time to take out a 3 man mob. PDS basically controls the pace of the raid/herioc/instance/(watever else it takes more than 4 people to do :) )
