I just hit 80 about 2 days ago on my Resto Druid. The second I hit 80, I just started to do instances like nobody's bidness. There are a few slip-ups here and there. But, my new healing addon solved that dilemma.
OT: Thank you for posting this. I've never really healed hunter's pets before. Most of the time, I'm usually too busy healing everyone else, that I just skip the pet. But, I do remember specific times where I wasn't in a crisis, and had plenty of time to throw him a heal, but didn't. I will from now on, if the opportunity arises.
I've always healed the dps. Always. Yes, the tank is the main priority. But, I don't want people to have to pay a hefty repair bill, (plus slow down our dps) because I'm too lazy to give them one rejuv. But, if I'm in a moment, where I have to choose between healing one, and letting the other die, I usually go like this:
1 - Tank
2 - Me
3 - Dps
This is the mantra I've always gone with. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
+1 for this post :)
PS: The only CC I've ever used is
War Stomp
, for when a caster is about to get his face beaten in. Should I be CC'ing more?

Just curious what the new addon might be?

Don't worry, you're not alone in your noobiness =D
I picked up an addon called Grid2. I've been told it's not as good as other healing addons, but it works fine for me.

1 - No. Keep your own darned pets alive... Health funnel and mend pet exist for a reason. I don't even have pet frames enabled/displayed; if I could stop PoM from jumping to Fluffy I would do it in a heartbeat.
2 - No. If there is constant raid damage as part of the encounter, those who are assigned to raid healing will do it. If a DPS is being hurt because he is being stupid, its his own fault.
3 - Keeping myself alive is nearly top priority (slightly below keeping tanks alive). CC has its uses, but by no means should a healer be CC'ing when he should be healing. You have like 15 DPS who can do that for you.
Occulus - 15 minute deserter debuff is faster than a half hour of wiping because people are too stupid to learn how to use their drakes/learn the fights. Staying for a wipe-fest is futile, frustrating and a waste of time.

Don't agree on the pet healing. My raid frames don't even show pets. Yes, an AoE heal will occasionally target a pet and I don't mind that. But healing players is my job, people have to look after their pet on their own. I'm certainly not bloating up my raid frames just to show pet tabs.
2. Heal the DPS. Casters get it a little easier on this one, but between consecrate, Death and Decay, Blizzard and a ridiculously complex rotation, we melee don't always see what we are standing in until it is a bit late. Proving a point is no excuse to lose 1/4 of your damage output. And if you can only do 2/5s of your job, don't complain about a DPS not pulling his weight in the group.
This is important. I've met a few healers who refused to heal self inflicted damage and then got all ^&*!@y about it.
E.g. HoL, that lightning thingy that damages you while moving. Low damage, easy to heal through, when dpsing I usually just ignore it so I can run to the next mob and deal damage, making the run faster. A healer actually let me die (well, I got to very low HP and when I noticed I stopped running ... but some random AoE killed me afterwards since I was standing close to mobs) because of that on purpose. After I told the healer how stupid this behavior is she refused to heal me for the rest of the instance. Which resulted in my just running behind the group, not risking to get any damage and not dealing any kind of significant damage and slowing down the run a lot.

Heal warlocks, we lifetap. Some healer once wouldn't heal me because "you was killing yourself"

As a healer I heal like most other people here: tank>me>dps>pets. This means I don't care about a dps that is pulling aggro if the tank is needing my heals. When I dps I don't get $%^&ed if I pull aggro and tank/healer doesn't save my bacon. I use my cooldowns and if I still die I say "sorry for pulling aggro". I rarely say anything bad to the healer. It is only in situations with party wide aoe that can't be avoided and I end up dying after a number of them without getting a single heal I complain.
