I had two level 47 bugs, but I just bubbled and ran away. Killing them is not needed in the quest. And they spawned after I took the water.

I had a 48 bug and 47 bug come out but they didnt touch me.

What I did was as soon as I clicked the widget, I spammed my mount button, so I was mounted by the time the bugs came and got away safely.

The waterpool can be found at 39,29. For those not using coordinates, just head straight west from Gadgetzan, it's just below the entrance to Zul'Farrak.

There are some elites around the waterpool, but those can easily be evaded. After you've taken the water sample, 2x NPCs will spawn (Either lvl 48 or 47).

If you are a rogue/other stealthing class, you can quickly hit stealth right after you fill the widget and sneak away unharmed.

I had two lvl 47 & 48 bugs spawned on me after I took the water. Contarary to the comments above, they attacked me. It was a bit tough with my lvl 45 warrior but I managed it.

You might need to clear some elite trolls around the pond depending on their walking path.

Once you click on the water and the castbar begins to fill just get ready to run away. If you run away as soon as you gather the sample you can get far enough away before the bugs spawn that they will not aggro at all. Just don't run towards the elites... =)

Put on AotP, let my pet catch aggro, ran away and pet despawned from distance gap before it was even half dead (at level 43/42 cat), no trouble. Contrary to the earlier comments however, you can't mount up fast enough to not get interrupted unless you're standing at the very limit of the collection range.

I just did this quest with my lvl 43 Shaman, no problems and no bugs spawned. Easy exp :D

Gave me 3050 exp, 35 silver and 150 rep with Gadgetzan.

Well the mobs spawned as soon as I took the water sample, but my 46 shaman hacked them down n/p
didn't even have time to spam my mount button

just completed it with a level 44 hunter, the pet is sufficient to tank both the level 48 beetles that spawn..just stay away and dps...if one of the beetles comes on you, just use intimidate...wasnt that hard for me....quest gave 4300xp and 150 gadgetzan rep

Killed both bugs as a level 42 combat rogue - blew all cooldowns and a health pot to get the first down but then only got the second to 30%. Vanished, healed up and killed the 2nd one without dropping below 50%.

This was with level 39 pvp blues though, so had a nice stamina buffer to work with. Was a measly 300 ish XP unrested though, not worth it except for the challenge.

Just did this as a 40 shammy; used the widget, dropped a Stoneclaw Totem, and had time to pop Ghost Wolf before the bugs came out. (No mount yet. :( )

did it whit my 38 pala!! an eacy task!! did (try to) avoid all the mobs on the way over there(did just run away from those who did attack me) and run just as soon i got it filled!! did take the time of it! 3 min and 48 sec from i got the quest until i turn it in:-P

The Sandfury mobs around the water hole are no longer elite. You can easily avoid them on your mount and head to the west side of the watering hole. The dowsing widget doesn't have to be filled up right at the edge of the water, so once it's filled you can stay out of combat and mount up without engaging the 2 bugs.

I was completely unprepared and immediately attacked by the two bugs.
I had a heart attack last year. I thought that this was going to bring on another one.
Oh well, just to show the Quest Giver there were no hard feelings, I told him where
a great treasure was buried just north of the Noxious Lair.
As I was galloping away, I heard what I knew I'd hear:
a loud shriek of terror followed by some loud clicks and a wet rending noise.
I'm going to the Inn over in Stormwind for some Ham, Cheese, Morning Dew and some Rum.
I will then read for three hours to settle my stomach and then go to bed where I will sleep with satisfaction and a smile. :)

I got the water, and turned around to run right as they spawned. As a level 43 fire mage, I just frost nova'd and blinked. Easy as pie. =] good luck!

Instructions on here are pretty clear. Just go due West of Gadgetzan, due South from Zul'Farrak. There is a big tower surrounded by trolls and west of it is a pond. I didn't kill anything to get there, was not attacked by anything, and was able to get the sample while standing on the shore.

I will agree with the others about the bug things (Centipaars). There were 2 level 47 bugs on the other side of the pond. I went to a part that was open, got my sample and took off. When I looked back, sure enough, there was a level 48 bug right where I had been, so watch out!

The baddies around the pond aren't elites anymore. Someone completed the quest shortly before I arrived as there were 2 giant bugs in the water already. So I had to kill two of the troll baddies to use the other side of the pond, and I had ZERO time to get on my mount before the bugs appeared for me. They appeared immediately so I just used my pet (I'm a level 43 hunter) to block for me as I ran off. Piece of cake.

Multiboxing & Party Note:

I thought I would be clever and pull down the console and type "/use Untapped Dowsing Widget" to fill all 4 bottles at once and 8 bugs spawned, but since they were stacked on top of one another, I didn't realize this and they quickly killed two of my toons in the confusion.

So even if you can typically take on 'anything', be prepared and know what to expect.

If you complete the quest, and move, the Centipaar Tunnelers are attack you. I have a level 44 Night Elf Priest (shadow) and can kill these beasts, so it's pretty easier.

Why are people so worried about running away? Level 44 Retri Paladin and I destroyed them, and made 1200 exp from the 2 kills. They were red to me (level 49) and I cut through them like a hot knife through sweet sweet butter.... mmmmmm butter.

Just completed this quest. My Lightheaded addon did not pull these comments so I was unaware of what happened after you filled the water bottle, until I had already done it. I filled the water bottle, turned 180 degrees and and before I could take a step two giant scorpions spawned and immediately attacked me. One was level 47, one was level 48. As a 46 Prot Paladin I just killed them, I didn't know it was not necessary but I did it anyway.

The bugs spawn so instantly that there is NO time to mount, unlike what every other post I read has said. I died fairly quickly as a shadow priest of level 45 from trying to mount and I forgot to bubble before I did the mount (I thought I would have time to mount).

The bugs spawned directly on top of me.

I actually did this on my lvl 39 rogue and stealthing worked just fine for me.... fill bottle run a couple feet vanish = filled bottle no death :)

im a hunter lvl 43 its impossible to kill those bugs so dont try i just got my pet to get the aggro got the water and ran! its the strategy that works best

It is now possible to mount up after getting a water sample without being interrupted by the bugs since they changed the mount summoning time from 3 seconds to 1.5 seconds.

It will have to be done the instant you are finished gathering a water sample, and hope that you won't be dazed off your mount since the bugs will attack you very shortly after.

I was able to mount up milliseconds before entering combat and run off in time without any problems.

I tried this as lvl 43 hunter thinking I could just get the water, mount up and run off as I have in the past. However that did not work; instead the lvl 48 and 49 bugs spawned immediately. Feign Death and Freezing trap were resisted so I had my pet aggro while I ran off like a wimp. GL on this one.

Gadgetzan Water Survey

This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.

Use the untapped dowsing widget near the pool of water by Sandsorrow Watch. Once you have collected the sample, return the tapped dowsing widget to Senior Surveyor Fizzledowser in Gadgetzan.

Description

We've got a position open for a temporary junior-grade surveyor in the Gadgetzan Water Company, if you're interested!

With the nomads seizing all our wells, we need to exploit more free sources of water! There is water to be had in the desert, but only to those smart enough to survey them first.

Take this dowsing widget and tap a sample of the water by the pool near Sandsorrow Watch. It's right in sight of the trolls around there. Bring the tapped widget back to me when you're done!
