Yes, if you don't hide behind the canister for Nikki the Fixer's Disintegration Ray you will be one-shot. (In my defense though, it spawned way out and I couldn't make it in time.)

when she targets you with Disintegration (red ray) hide behind one of those red canisters (unstable payload). I thought I was supposed to hide behind the roots because these were green but it didn't work.

if you die, just release and run back, she does not reset.

This quest is bugged for me, along with other people trying at the same time as me.

After the statue tumbles, I began the quest and before combat starts after speaking with Gazlowe, Nikki teleport to inside the statue base where another 2 NPCs are fighting each other, Nikki can be targeted but can't be hit with anything including AoEs, traps, or pets. I couldn't physically get onto the platform to do anything as well.

We collectively tried to:
-Reload UI.
-Force quit and log in.
-Paused revolution and restarted.
-Hearthed out and back.
-Abandoned quest and reaccepted multiple times through each step.
-Changing specs.
-Targeting with AoEs.
-Cushion/Pillow trick to get on the platform.

I submitted a screenshot here showing the bugged encounter, but it might take a while before it appears.
Submitted at bug but couldn't find a way to get this to work for me or the other players. If anyone has some tip, please reply with some helpful info.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out what the "strategy" is for this. The red canisters deal an incredible amount of AoE and can't be destroyed, there's no healing or safe zone to mitigate that damage... the disintegration ray is fine because you can duck behind the statue pedestal, but what are you actually supposed to do with the goofy amount of damage being output by the indestructible cylinders? You can't kite her away because she'll just default to ranged attacks OR just re-aggro to Gazlowe so she won't even follow you anyway...

What is the actual design of this fight? Come in already geared to the teeth and just brute force it?

I ended up brute forcing it with corpse running but that's obviously not the intent. Something's wrong here.

this has been the worst quest so far this patch, I died to the AOE so many times.

Was wondering how to do this and was able to piece it together with some of the information from here:

1. Attack her when possible until you get the warning for her Death Ray (it will one-shot you...or at least do a lot of damage)
2. At that time the first of the barrels has fallen from the sky....hide behind one of those
3. While they are a problem due to AoE when too many have accumulated, they can be destroyed by her ray gun when you hide behind it and she fires at you
4. This keeps the number or barrels down and you from being fried :-)

Rinse and repeat, while doing damage in between.

If you messed up, often because the next barrel is too far away when you are a melee class, she will not reset every time you die. If you take too long, though, she will. So keep dying at a minimum. But that way you are also able to "reset" the fight, when too many barrels have accumulated, because you came too late to read this ^^

Yes, this is not a very well thought out quest. Reminds me of the old vanilla quests, where you ran around Azeroth with no idea where to look for that "contact person" in which "dark woods"... I do not miss those days at all ;-)

This is a heroic dungeon encounter (minus the proper group setup), not an end of questline finale...
