Fun little quest! Use the flute he gives you by targeting the rats running around, then right click on the flute. If you're in range you'll hear some flute music play and then the rat will follow you. Do that 5 times, then return to monty! If you don't see any rats just walk around and wait a few moments, they respawn really quickly.

This quest is also great to waste some time if you are low leveled and just missed the tram.

Nice easy quest. Lets you do the quest "Me brother Nipsy" which gives you 5s and 10 Deeprun Rat Kobold

one of the best quests in the world of warcraft... i wish it was repeatable...

also, it's shame that there is no a horde equivalent of this quest since waiting for the zepplin is another pain in the ass =)

To make this quest go even faster , put the out on the action bar.
Then you just target some rats , spam the key , and deliver! =P

I noticed that if you dot a rat and then use the flute right before the rat dies, it'll count as 2 rats. O_o

I got frustrated chasing the rat down so I dotted it and used the flute and it counted as two. x_X

Surprisingly, this critter attacks back.. haha

If you are having problems trying to click on the little rats running around the tram area so you can use the flute to tame them, make a quick easy little macro.

1.) Open the macro window by typing /m
2.) Create a new macro
3.) In the macro window type the following:

#showtooltip Rat Catcher's Flute
/target Deeprun Rat
/cast Rat Catcher's Flute

4.) Place the macro on your actionbar
5.) Run around the tram and click the macro when you are near a rat

Way back during patch 1.2-1.3ish, you could use the flute outside of the tram.

I loved playing it randomly, and was very disappointed when Blizzard nerfed it because people were having fun with it.

Blizzard continued their stance on this, and many more fun things were nerfed, and still are to this day.

I did this quest at level 69 (im after the gnomeregan rep, which by the way this quest doesnt seem to offer) and I got 90 xp for it. I was under the impression 'grey' quests gave none.

I ended the quest with no controlled rat because my wolf kept killing them between the time the flute ended and they turned friendly :<

Funny to see Monty talking to the air though though ^.^

Lol, fun quest but make sure if you're a warlock or hunter, that you dismiss or put your pet on passive for it, i wasn't paying attention and got confused why it kept "failing"...it wasn't... my voidwalker was just having fun squishing rats.... ^-^

I noticed that when I completed the objectives of this quest before turning it in, the tracking on the right side of the screen told me to return to Monty at Lordamere Internment camp in Alterac Valley. Apparently Blizz made a mistake.

While there are not a lot of rats compared to other places with critters, you can use this area to assist your guild in completing the Critter Kill Squad achievement:

The re-spawn rate is decent and the rats are contained, making them easy targets with little effort.
