If you do this quest on live right now, be sure to get your Overcharged Centurion repaired/mounted first. Otherwise you will be insta-gibbed by the hordes of adds that spawn and will just splat your face on the on the ground in miliseconds.

Use Disembodied Soul (can collect 4 to complete them simultaneously)
Bring them to the Front-Line Stitcher
Defend the area (It can be hard, so be ready for some heavy waves and beware of cleaves)

This is a pretty ridiculous quest to expect solo players to complete. You need a group unless you wear plate or have a lot of heals available, or can do uber-damage to knock the waves down fast. Shadow priest will run out of mana trying to stay alive for sure.

Very poorly designed quest and not fun.

As near as I can tell you basically have to stay within the yellow circle till the npc is done for your disembodied soul to be rezzed.

Edit: I've done this multiple times now and there seems no rhyme or reason. You'd think the number of mobs that appear would have some relation to something (like the disembodied souls you have), but not as far as I can tell just more RNG garbage. It's also RNG as to what composition of the group shows up. You have to keep the Stitcher alive and stay alive yourself until he says the body is ready.

One thing I can suggest is try and use a Congealed Soul Vat if one is nearby. If you're lucky it will last long enough.

Another thing to watch for is if someone has started the event. As near as I can tell if it ends for them it will end for you if you're in the area too.

Good luck doing this as a clothie (especially a shadow priest...). I died 5 or 6 times as an spriest before I was able to finish this.

This current batch of Blizzard designers are just terrible.

Unbelievably horribly bugged - went to 3 different stitchers, and have restored 9 souls with acknowledgement from the stitcher, but still have credit for only ONE !
Edit: Logged off and when I got back on, was able to complete easily. However, this 2 hour crap-fest awards only 150 Codex and 300 Research.

This quest could be extremely hard to solo for some classes with occasional absence of the champion from the quest You and What Army. If so, abandon You and What Army and you'll be able to select the champion again once you re-pick the quest up.

As a 219 fire mage I completed the slime quest first and my champion was missing for unknown reasons. I tried to solo this quest but my burst could not cover all the waves. The adds eventually killed me, or the NPC when I Ice Blocked myself. Death of either led to loss of all the progress. I had to collect the souls in this area of elite mobs all over again and a few minutes later I got another failure. I managed to find my champion back after reading some bug reports and finally completed the quest with it.

Bugs or poor design, this quest is frustrating.

I have now completed it 3 times... dragged 4 souls to the stitcher, defended him, saw the new body run off, saw the stitcher say "the body is ready", nobody else was nearby, nobody else was getting their souls done, and I STILL DON'T HAVE CREDIT FOR DOING THIS! VERY poorly designed quest, requires a very well-geared toon (or lots of help) to have any chance to complete it. And everyone is looking out for themselves - nobody is willing to stick around and help you if you helped them. Horrible idea for a quest - whoever came up with it should be fired on the spot.

Edit: Now it's been 8 times. Same damned thing.

I have gone through and done about 30 odd different stitchers, to complete the quest, but out of that many, only 2 souls have been consumed. I have tried to reload my game, abandon the quest and try again, move to another stitcher, do everything I can possibly think of.
Nothing worked, at all.

EDIT: The way I completed it, was to get someone who hadnt done the quest yet and form a group with them, they were the reason I finished it

In order to consistently get credit, I've found that you have to stand practically on top of the Stitcher. Being in the yellow circle isn't enough, you need to be treading on his toes. Every time I've done this it has worked.

Also, watch out for the Eyes. Their Decaying Blast is especially devastating to both pets and player.

Quest is awful.. Not only is it hard to get credit when you bring a soul sometimes 5-10 mobs spawn at once and just destroy you.

I used the body sticher closest to the gate. If you stand on the edge of the yellow circle, friendly NPCs will help once you tap the mobs.
Is it still difficult? Very. Too many hard-hitting mobs.
And I think the quest is bugged. I went from 1/3 to 3/3 when someone else brought a fresh body for stitching.

Very discouraging quest. I've actually abandoned it a couple of times.

At least in the beginning of 9.1 you could use a helper (from another ongoing assault quest) to fight your way. But as of today, there isn't any within the assault and the attack is highly inconsistent. If you're lucky, you'll make 4 souls in the 1rst attempt (I did it with a frost mage), but other times you can't even do 1-2 souls without dying a couple of times (My case with a 220 balance druid). Also, at times it seems you don't get the credit, no matter what, so you'll keep getting more ads to kill without ending the task.

Rather unfortunate. The time of running about with a small amount of stygia you can afford to lose is long behind most people, even those who describe their play as casual. I looked for there to be some kind of "scheme" to how this quest was to be ran. Something like an item that made it possible to complete as any class other than a well geared tank, but I never found that something. In the end I had to forego doing the Maldraxus Event on all of my alts not able to tank numerous melee foes. I suppose that is not the end of the world. Having to skip a week every now and then (why do any of the event if you cannot get the overall reward?) on a few alts is no biggie, but not everyone has a tank as their main. It seems that there is more of this kind of "disconnect" between the developers and the players of late. I sure hope it is corrected before this game go es the way of Earth and Beyond.
Addend: The Congealed Soul Vat does help and made it "possible" to finish this, but it then became so tedious it was like reporting to work on Christmas morning.

I can't understand why the designer of this quest hasn't been disciplined and the quest removed from the set of Necrolords' quests until fixed. This is an absolute disgrace. The amount of fairly tough adds that appear is farcical, and just as you are getting through them a further wave appears. Rinse and repeat until you and/or animator dead. THIS AINT FUN
As a world quest it would be one that is avoided, as it is it prevents the completion of the Necrolord assault, thus forcing ignore when its a Necrolords assault and making 3 other quests pointless too.
There seems to be a pretty fundamental lack of competence with the current set of designers, but this is the apogee of ineptitude

Still pretty hard to solo. I play in the mornings when there are usually not many people doing the assaults, so I have no choice but to solo as a caster. I don't have enough burst AoE to kill the mobs quickly, and neither I nor the NPC can tank the adds. I've downed the first wave a few times, but can't make it through the second. After my third death, I decided to try one more time. After collecting the four souls a 930k HP level 62 rare spawned right on top of me killed me. Usually I'd say @#$% happens, but such an unlucky rare encounter after already being tilted made me take the rest of the morning off the game.

ok boys and girls.. this is how i did this after dying numerous times to the point i was ready to delete it and move on..finally got it...ONE soul per time.. this designates the number of mobs that rush you in three stages..easier to take down. STAND on the NPC and theres a bar over his head of his progress work to make a new body..It completes after the three waves of mobs attack and you kill them all and his crafting line is finished.. If you have two in party or three or four or five the amount of mobs in each wave increases according where youre fighting like 2,3,4,5 times more than one person doing it. good luck..after 20 years of blizz i can see someone on the quest planning committee had a real bad sense of humor in messing with the players..but then im finding that a lot. cheers and good luck ;)

My 162 BM hunter died six times by now doing this, with 3 of the 4 things done.

Nothing! It's just yet another REALLY ridiculous quest.

aaaahhh, so THAT'S why I keep dying.....

IMO, your only hope for completing this quest is to luck out with a big gang of generous people that just wanna stand there and nuke your mobs for 15 minutes.

It's a good thing I wasn't farming Stygia because I lost pretty much all of it. I also spent a good 500g on armor repairs.

Some quests suck, some are energy draining, some have me questioning playing computer games at all ... and then there are ones like these that are just plain bewildering.

Anyway, I hope I never have to do that again!

RNG seems to matter here, when I did it on my mage, I had Eyes on me casting a beam with endless range. Also got overwhelmed and nearly died like 3-4times, when suddenly 4/4 popped.
When I done it on my elemental, it was rather easy. Stun totem and later Greater Earth Elemental helped alot. Also just 2 eyes this time, which were easy to deal with.
Gonna do it on my Warlock now, and hope my Voidwalker is good enough to tank it.

I finally figured out how to deal with this quest SOLO...
1) Grab a soul and bring it to a stitcher.
2) Successfully restore a soul 1-3 times.
3) Grab another soul.
4) Bring to stitcher.
5) Die.
6) Collect lost Stygia.
7) Repeat steps 5 & 6 until you finally...
8) Punch your monitor.
9) Hearthstone out and give up on assault.
10) Exit WoW.
11) Play something else until Microsoft cleans house and replaces everyone who had any involvement whatsoever with the Maw.

The only way to play this straight solo is to either have pets or be a good tank. Otherwise you're screwed. Of course if 10
other people are doing it it's easy, but that's rare. In fact I see few people still doing it. So how to get it done ? What follows
is an embarrassing way to do that.

You do not have to be in the stitcher's circle for the entire stitching cycle, Just long enough that the stitcher recognizes
you are there. So you are going to sit on the periphery and for want of a better word snipe. You go in at the last minute,
while someone else is doing it, get credit and bug the hell out. Oh and you might as well do this with all 4 souls.

EDIT ADDENDA: I just did this solo on a much-better-equipped-than-this-quest-was-designed-for Fury Warrior and its still
a pita solo. At this point (9.2.5) help is going to be iffy so if you have to solo 1) make sure the stitcher has a full health bar
before you start, 2) do only one soul at a time. More souls mean more mobs ime, 3) have every possible form of healing
ready, including bandages and Embalmers OIl, 4) leave as soon as you get credit, this ime is after the 3rd wave. Be warned !
A 4th wave comes even if you've finished so leave !

This is probably the worst quest I've ever encountered since I started playing wow in beta in an expansion which seems to have had a design philosophy based around making everything as annoying and frustrating as possible for the player!

From game mechanics too map designs with never ending twigs, rocks, bumps, hidden notches and mysterious impossible to climb inclines stopping you in your tracks at every turn this expansion is by far the worst.

I'm frustrated more often during a few hours playing than I'd usually be in a month!

This quest is abysmal. If you can find a stitcher off the beaten track, then take one soul at a time to him. Otherwise have fun dying repeatedly to waves of adds. It should instance you, or similar to avoid everyone else's waves of adds, but that would have been far too easy and made the quest fairly doable. It's a horrible, annoying quest made even worse by the terrible mechanics.

This has to be the most dumbest quest I tried to do, but there is quite a few of dumb quests in this game. Whoever came up with this one, is probably sitting at home and laughing him or herself silly about players trying to do that quest. Shame on them who made that quest

Wasn't obvious to me, but you can grab all 4 and just do it in one sit-and-wait session. Shouldn't be a problem at level 70.
