Portals spawn every once in a while, mobs are too strong and only one person can click a portal. I guess it's one of those WQs that takes blizzard 2-3 months to fix

The portals that you need are the larger ones. Not the small ones.
When they spawn several players can click them and get credit. Just keep clicking.

I just did the quest today and even if I did not manage to complete the channeling to close the portal, I still got credit.

I found them to spawn more often at the SE corner of the quest, by the great sword and armor laying on the ground.

So, how does one complete this quest when the mobs around the gates are too much for one person to handle ?

This WQ is not tuned properly. Those damn 60+ birds are EVERYWHERE, on top of the extreme amount of other mobs in the area. Then there's the fact that so many mobs spawn from the portals as you're closing them.
Don't get me wrong, I'm up for a good challenge, especially when there is a good reward, but this quest is dumb.

This WQ really, really sucks. Other players can come and snatch the portal right in front of you, while you're killing the mobs attached to the portal. If you don't kill all the mobs in the ~10 second channeling time, and immediately start channeling it yourself, you lost the portal.

You can right click off the buff that keeps you in the void portal phase - this will drop you back to "reality", escaping all mobs if you overpulled. Which is very easy in this stupidly tuned WQ.

Don't even bother going solo there, it's complete ass right now. You are almost dead 2 seconds each time you pulled mobs.

Start mission by ringing the bell close to the NPC (Keeper Mnemis) highlighted in the minimap .

"Oh, only closing three portals, that sounds easy enough." In actuality, you will spend this quest running around an area filled with mobs that will attack you, that you don't need for the quest; looking all over the place for portals only to find none; then when at long last one spawns, it is surrounded by mobs-- and as you start fighting them, someone else will come up and click your portal. It's extra frustrating when the quest offers a rewared you really want.

As if this quest weren't awful enough already, the portals have now started spawning massive quantities of the voidwalker enemies - Too many even for a Blood DK @ 172 ilvl to survive against; and the nearest graveyard is 400 yards away, down on the wrong side of the stone platform(expect a long, long corpserun back).

Just to recap:

Portals that don't spawn anywhere near often enough
Too many annoying mobs all over, including Lv60 patrolling Elites
The quest objective of closing a portal can be stolen from you if you didn't manage to get a second or two of channeling off on the portal mid-combat, if another player comes along and snipes it while you're engaged with the (excessive amount of) enemies around it
An awkward forced shapeshift that stops you from using Running Wild as a Worgen, Travel form as Druid, etc.
Portals that bug out and spawn way, way too many enemies (very obviously not intended, despite the already egregious design of the quest)
Portals that look the same as the objective portals, but smaller, and which don't contribute to the quest - Adding confusion for no good reason.
A long, annoying corpserun back if you die in this area.

Do yourself a favour and disregard this World Quest entirely, regardless of its rewards. Life is too short for junk like this.

Quit the quest. They make it impossible to do with out following people around and steeling the object while they fight the monster. Blizzard, please stop designing stuff this way.

If you die, you need to go back to the bell in order to see the portals again. The bell is at 47.02, 63.41

IDIOT players make this no fun. Stealing portals and then standing there laughing while you get slaughtered.

Congrats Blizzard, I didn't knew it was possible to give a quest a this fitting name.

It is a WQ of plain horror where the real objective is to close other player's gateways while they are being ganged and slaughtered by all mobs surrounding the gateway. This terrible quest forces players to become each other's enemies in order to survive and complete the quest.

This quest is easier if you are at maximum activating distance from the big portal. The little guys that spawn do not get agroed if you do that. So what i found out is clear some mobs that can allow you to do that.

A few others have already said it but they seem to have gotten lost in the shuffle. The trick to this quest is to find a spot near the portal that has no mobs or a spot that you can clear out *before* clicking the portal. Then be sure you are as *far away* from the portal as possible when you click it. You may still aggro a mob or two but most of the time I've aggro'd none and had no difficulty completing this quest

Flew around the area for 5 minutes looking for a larger portal to click on, nothing. Must be bugged currently.

This WQ is ridiculously easy for a Druid. Just enter Flight Form, find a gateway, hover above it and close it. You don't need to engage any of the mobs it spawns.
