I got stuck on this quest because a player from the opposing faction tagged the two mobs at the end. This was incredibly frustrating because then the quest would not complete, instead he just stands there repeating "We need to keep moving, !" over and over.
I had to abandon it and do the whole sneak thing again. Make sure you tag those mobs as soon as you can!

If you didn't get to hand in 'Combing the Catacombs' and 'Break Out' yet, you will get a chance as you complete this escort quest.

While doing the Lead the way Venthyr quest chain and getting to the part where I must escort Emil, all goes well until the second jump down to the ground. Emil says “we must keep moving” and then freezes in place and his stealth effect breaks and many npcs attack and kill me. Once I didn’t even get a release button and had to log out to get my character back. I tried twice more to do the escort quest and the same freeze happened both times. Does anyone know if this is a bug or am I just missing something?

Ah yes, the old stay-in-the-circle escort quest.

"We need to be perfectly quiet and avoid a fight. Therefor I will talk the entire time and walk through every single mob's agro range, avoiding obviously less treacherous paths! And if you move more than 2 steps away I'll VANISH."

"We need to jump down here."

I couldn't possibly thank you here. I'll meet you on the other side of this gauntlet of unrewarding high HP trash mobs that you can't possibly avoid drawing agro on.

There is a slight bug at the end of the quest, even after you return to the Curator, you can still talk to Watcher Emil and he will start the event again, giving you stealth.

If you are a pet class, dismiss your pet before following Emil. Pets are not stealthed by his field and will aggro everything around as you follow him around. At the end, he stops directly in front of two hostile stone guardians, which of course attack you, as Emil starts his dialog with Sinkeeper Mateo (who never did appear for me.) This was fun as I had dismissed my Void Walker to avoid aggroing everything else. Seriously.

First time through, I was ALMOST out... not realising Emil would abandon me to the depredations of Manifestations shortly thereafter. I'm not sure I've died on any character quite as grotesquely and often as on this quest.

I had to restart because I didn't walk off the edge with him and fell to the second ledge and he wouldn't follow me.

I can say without hesitation that this is one of the worst, if not THE worst, quests ever developed. Why is such a screwed up quest part of the campaign line? ARGH!

If you go down two ledges instead of one when Emil jumps down, you can use door of shadows on the curved edge of the upper ledge and it will still be in line of sight. Then run forward immediately to get back up. And, yes, this quest is awful.

Try to drop at an angle on the first drop instead of straight ahead. If you have any sort of effect on you that increases your movement speed, you will probably overshoot the first ledge and end up unstealthed on the ledge below. Getting back to Emil means running through a metric ton of assassin mobs that hit hard when they attack en masse. I really dislike how finicky this quest is. Why the need to drop down off two ledges when a perfectly serviceable road/ramp is right there for the using?

Couldnt finish got aggro when inside circle twise couldnt heal up and not one mob had like 4 aggroing at same time not sure how to do this solo as mage.
and this was way after jumping down part.

I think im way to undergeared for this quest so gonna skip it until i get better gear

Update.

Should have read the comments better, if you have any pet, Hunter,mage,warlock, disband Pet before doing this all Pets break stealth.

if you have unlocked flying just do this while on a flying mount and escape aggro by going airborne. land next to Emil to continue escorting him

Quest was bugged for me. If I clicked "Let's Go" immediately after accepting the quest, the escort portion would start, but I wouldn't get credit for talking to Emil. Workaround is to accept the quest, close out the quest window, reopen it, and click "Let's Go."

Watcher Emil gives you the quest at

/way Revendreth 65.9, 28.8 Watcher Emil

This location is just inside a building.

I abandoned and reacquired the quest, however, I believe you may need to go all the way back to this starting point regardless of where you lose contact with Emil. Please comment if I am incorrect about this!

I found that if I zoomed in to just barely behind my character before I started the quest

and
I don't do anything like slow fall, I just really follow him and stay on his footsteps

and
I turn the same direction he does when he's about to step off a ledge (he does so 3x in a row, btw)

then
I get to the part where he has a little annoyed RP with two stone-gargoyle folks before they turn red and fight me.

What a frustrating quest. I'm willing to accept he was there because he was trying to convince the other loyal-to-the-Purpose-venthyr to come with him. I'm willing to accept we're going to get ambushed by Denathrius loyalists.. The "meh I never could trust Mateo" comes off as sour grapes and I don't like it at all.
