If there are no players fighting at the moment, you should be able to buy a High Roller's Contract (A)/High Roller's Contract (H) from the gold exchange vendor to get matches to guess on.

EDIT: The High Roller's Contract only enables the game. As cytoxin (thank you!) pointed out below, you still can't play the game of chance if noone is fighting, and you have to beg your friends to come help you, or wait until a fighter shows up.

Just started this today and can confirm you don't actually have to bid anything to win gold.
As long as there's a person fighting, doesn't matter if they win or lose, you'll automatically get x1 gold.

If anyone else had no idea what was going on here like me...

The quest is to earn gold from the goblin pit boss. When another player brawls and you observe it you get 1 gold no matter whether they win or lose. Yes, you can speed this up.

Go buy the contract as mentioned in the other comments, then go back to the goblin and you will be able to bet on the fight. Then you get the stacking buff of gold for betting correctly. So instead of 1 gold, you get 5, 10, etc. instead.

That's how you do the actual quest. Here I was thinking I had to AFK while 100 people win or lose fights. :D

This part definitely took the longest, especially when you have random bad/new people who die to an easy boss or they had to intentionally lose for a later quest.

Talk to Lord Winifred Browne as soon as the contestant is teleported into the arena. You'll get to bet on the fight. You can choose to bet on either "the Hero" or "the Monster". If your prediction wins you gain a stack of Vested Interest.
