Pretty fun (and easy) quests overall. The Spectral Essence is the trinket that allows you to see the vendor (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=11278) in the little town outside Scholomance. The vendor carries the Major Mana recipe, as well some others ( http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=11278#M0zc ). So, if Gandling hasn't dropped the recipe for you yet, you can still purchase it if you don't feel like getting robbed at the auction house. :)

The Plan is BOP so the only way to get the recipy is to either hope that it drops off Gangling or do the quest and buy the plan off the guy.

The only mob with a 100% drop rate of the blood is the Blood Stewart. Both Jandice and Krastinov have a ~10% chance to drop it. Kirtonos the Herald quest must be completed beforehand.

Anyone knows what happens if you die fighting Kirtonos ? i've abadoned the quest and repicked it up, got the item to summon him, but i cannot summon the boss at the brazier ...
We have cleared the dungeon, then we tried killing him, but.. we failed.

EDIT: You have to reset the dungeon if you fail to kill him, in order to resummon him !

BTW, he hits like a train. He hits for over 600dmg on a 8k armor. Bring a healer, even though you're 70 !

This quests counts towards "Loremaster of Eastern Kingdom" achievement.

Don't take this guy lightly, he still hits about 400-500 on 20k armor in frost presence on a 79 Death Knight.

The reason why he hits so hard is because one of his abilities reduces armor by 50%. He still poses a threat at Lv 70 but any Lv 80 player should be able to just outlast and outdamage him.

I did this with 11k armour at 75 and found it easy. Don't be intimidated by the horror stories :P

Some little fun and odd facts:

"Kirtonos the Herald is an undead level 60 elite who can transform into a gargoyle."

"Long ago, he became the master of Scholomance's Doctor Theolen Krastinov. Responsible for many of the atrocities during Krastinov's rule over Scholomance, Kirtonos fed on the blood of his innocent victims. To appease his master, Doctor Krastinov had to provide the gargoyle with more and more blood."

"In later days, Kirtonos was a rare visitor to Scholomance. The Blood of Innocents was not easy to obtain around Caer Darrow now that most of its inhabitants were dead. Only the ghosts remained, plotting the gargoyle's demise."

"Given his title, and the person who founded Scholomance, Kirtonos is probably the herald of Kel'Thuzad."

"On the way to the Stratholme Live side, after clearing the gate trap, you will see a sign in front of you at the fork in the road. This sign reads Kirtonos Bros. Funeral Parlor. It is speculated that Kirtonos once lived in Stratholme before the war. How or if this is connected to his vampirism is unclear. Although, if he has always been a gargoyle, it probably is not connected to him."

If your having trouble finding the thing to light with blood -
*Go into duengon and thru the first iron gate, turn left and head down the stairs
*Go thru that iron gate in front of you, follow thru to the next iron gate.
*Head into that room just past the purple rug, turn right and BAM! There ya go.

Well, he can feast on the blood of dead innocents. I guess he got too lazy to feast on living innocents, when he started a funeral parlor.

I did in fact obtain it, and very nearly completed it, although I eventually failed the quest, so can't confirm whether it is impossible to complete or not. When I went back to try again I was able to get another vial of blood but wasn't able to place it in the brazier. If I reset the instance it may work again, but I am off elsewhere now. I reckon a fully trained Death Knight could do this at just above level 60. I almost succeeded as a level 60,not fully trained (ie. I hadn't trained since turning 60).

This quest was removed in Cataclysm due to the level of the dungeon being reduced.

Kirtonos the Herald

This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.

Return to the Scholomance with the Blood of Innocents. Find the porch and place the Blood of Innocents in the brazier. Kirtonos will come to feast upon your soul.

Fight valiantly, do not give an inch! Destroy Kirtonos and return to Eva Sarkhoff.

The blood of innocents. The purest blood, used to appease Krastinov's master.

It is with this blood that Kirtonos may be summoned. It is with this blood, then, that Kirtonos must be destroyed.

Take the blood to the porch. Place it upon the brazier. Kirtonos will come - he cannot resist. When he appears, unleash the fury and wrath of a thousand innocent deaths upon him.
