Use extra action button.
It has 2 modes:

On - Attracts hostile mobs and you will have to fight sharks from time to time
Off - Way too dark to see anything

So for science I decided to leave my headlamp on too long to see what happens.

A shark with 400m HP appears and hits you for 2.5m damage.

Using Underlight Angler, was able to swim around without interrupting the quest, despite the instructions warning about not using magical swimming items (didn't catch the exact phrase). Did not try other items or underwater spells, so unsure if others would lead to the crushed skull referenced in the instructions.

Total fun questline loved it. You go down to the bottom, test the light and then do the follow up quests. Turn the light on and off as you quest, about every 15 seconds if you want to be on the safe side. It's great and immersive (pun intended!) and I loved the look of the shipwrecks on the floor of the sea.

When you do the follow ups and have to find the captains and sailors it's helpful if you have the sparklies turned on in the interface. They are skeletons bascially floating in the water and/or on the deck of the shipwreckes. you just have to click them, it id's them, then continue on.

When you have your "light" on you can see the yellow cricles where they should be. get to the bottom, turn on the light and move toward the object.

Also you can follow other people and their lights. This will save you time.

Finding and killing the creatures took me more time than anything else. ranged has it better here vs. melee but easy enough to do.

Overall a great questline. Very much enjoyed it! Have fun with the light!

While doing this quest on an alt, Hobart Grapplehammer appeared with the name "Unknown" and couldn't speak to him to continue. Relogging fixed this issue.

If you've done this quest on alts and you just want to get it over with quickly just use your Bowl of Glowing Pufferfish. The more fish colors you use on yourself the brighter and whiter the light. You can easily see all the seafloor around you and you never have to use your dive light.

I love this quest! I've been Alliance for a few expansions, but am super glad to have leveled a Horde character to experience this.

Dear Hunters: You are probably going through these quests and wondering if some of these bioluminescent beasts you're encountering are tameable!
Seafloor Shambleclaw is tameable, but loses its bioluminescence upon being tamed, turning into simply "Crab".
Luminescent Siltfeeder is not tameable, despite being a Beast, probably because it is a fish and I don't think fish are tameable, for obvious reasons.
So no bioluminescent pets for us. :( yet...

not sure if it was this way from the start but i had issues with the beginning of the quest, made it to the bottom on the ocean and didnt know how to turn in, so after like 20min of swimming around i thought maybe it was bugged so i went back to the boat and was going to abandon the quest and noticed the button to finish quest, then it continued to the next stage..

If you swim down to the bottom of the ocean without putting on the diving helmet, no mobs will appear and the ocean will not be dark.

I swam around and was able to find several other shipwrecks which you don't even go to during the quest chain.

Just a heads up, was on my dragonriding mount when I was sent to the sea floor. No mobs were around, didn't have helmet buff, and essentially ran out of breath. Learned the hard way, have him send you down while you're dismounted, then everything works as it should :)

Description

We need you to retrieve Marshal M. Valentine's body at the ocean floor below. I should warn you: this part of the ocean is going to be very deep, and very dark, and very cold. Speak with Hobart at the starboard side of the ship. He's brought all the machinery you'll need to get to the ocean floor.
