The Scourage Champions can be found in the area directly north of Light Hope's Chapel. There's about a 50% chance to turn one of the skulls they drop into a Resonating Skull that you need.

Helpful tip: When the Scourge Champion drops the fetid skull you can use the crystal on it multiple times to get all 5 skulls you need, at least as of June '07...You don't have to wait for 5 different Champions to drop.

10/June/2007: The skulls are bugged, so you can use the Mystic Crystal over and over again until you get 5x Resonating Crystal. Took me 1 minutes to do the quest since the Skull dropped of the Champion on my first kill, neat! ;)

i walked north of LHC. the first scourge champion i killed dropped the skull. keep using the crystal over and over until you have 5 resonating skulls. walk back to LHC and give in the quest.

Still works on the one skull, first kill I got the drop.

You can just spam using the crystal, you will get some bone dust but you can just keep using it and you will get all the items required.

As of 23SEP2007, this still works. I got the skull on the first drop. Prior to reading this post, I just right-clicked the crystal again to see what happened, since the skull stayed in my inventory (I thought it should have disappeared since I had "used" it!), and I got some bone dust. I tried it again and again and ended up with 40 Resonating Skulls and 40 piles of bone dust! Gonna see if I can send the Resonating Skulls to our guild bank for someone's later use! :)

I can confirm that, took me 11 kills to get 5 resonating skulls. Appeal this was fixed with the last patch, good for me, went to noxious glade and found a rich thorium vein, would have missed it otherwise.

When I did this, I barely found any scourge champions at either area. This is because they share spawn points with the singers and stitches/golems. If you're not finding any, just kill the undead you see in those areas and wait for respawns.

As of December 14th, they seem to have fixed the bug i clicked the skull once and it disappeared.

I did this quest killed approx 20 scourge things got about 8 skulls in total and got 0 of the quest item 'resonating skull'
This seems to be because as soon as i got the item from the corpse i used the crystal on it.

When I then got 9 of these items piled in my inventory I could then use the crystal on them and got 6 resonating skulls and a few pile of bone dust. As if the more you have in your inv the higher the probability each will produce a skull.

Handed in the quest still have 1 resonating skull and 10x piles of bone dust.

Not sure if I have to keep this dust/skull as i can't sell it and am running out of bank/bag space.

Curse all you ppl that did this when there was still a bug!

The skulls drop fairly quickly. But when I use the crystal I am getting around about 10% chance they'll be resonating skulls and not bone dust. The respawn rate is terrible as well. I don't know whether there is a shared respawn point, but I am having difficulty finding more Scourge Champions.

Note that if your inventory is full, and you use the Mystic Crystal on a Fetid Skull, you won't receive anything.

USEFUL: there is also a place in the west where there are 2 or so of them. My suggestion is you go from place to place and kill them.

Takes time, but it gets it done.

also, there is another champion at the mill place, up the path to that Scourge place.

Be warned that this maybe a very very frustrating quest. Depends on your luck.
It may take you ten minutes, but also may take more than an hour.
Again that STUPID Blizzard random things play trick here.
The respawn rate of those champions varies largely.
You may have only 1 in the whole camp or like 5.
And the drop rate of the skull varies even more largely.
I could get 5 out of 6. Then the next day I needed 18 to get 5, cost 5 clears of the camp. So frustrating.
If you got a low respawn rate and a low drop rate coming together, you are going to curse and hate Blizzard.
They should at least raise the spawn rate of the champions.

A few things:

This quest won't be available until you've done both Heroes of Darrowshire and Villains of Darrowshire.
You may have heard that you can use the crystal on the same skull multiple times to get all your quest items, but this is no longer correct. The crystal can only be used once on each Fetid Skull, and it will transform it either into useless Bone Dust or a Resonating Skull. More often than not you'll get Bone Dust, so be prepared to collect a lot of skulls.
The Bone Dust really is useless. It may have white text, but it serves absolutely no purpose. You can't even sell it to a vendor, so just destroy it.
There are a number of skeleton warrior-type mobs in the Eastern Plaguelands, but only a Scourge Champion will drop Fetid Skulls. If you're on the quest, they always drop them.

After 9 Fetid Skulls finally got 1 resonating skull. 100% drop rate from champions, just seems the chance of getting a resonating skull is awful. Alot of Chapions around 76,50.

Also had 6 Retid skulls at one point and still only got bone dust. So yes the chance is completely at random.

Finished both quests at the same mob.

The full quest chain for The Battle of Darrowshire:

Villains and Heroes do both need to be completed in order to get Marauders. However, Defenders of Darrowshire (the Uncle Carlin chain) does not need to be completed in order to get to The Battle of Darrowshire.

The drop rate on Fetid Skulls is 100%; however the conversion rate to crystal skulls is horrible. No matter where you hunt you will probably want to kill other things in the hopes of rezzing more champions. So this one is quite a grind, at least it was for me. Not difficult at 59, just somewhat tedious.
- don't use the crystal on the champion until it is dead. I did this on the first one I found and it unprowled me in the middle of several bad guys. Wait until you have the skull in your inventory. Worth hot keying the crystal to save time imo.
- avoid fights with the Diseased Flayers. They aren't hard to kill but they give you a ten minute rot that drops your hit rate by 10%. As a feral cat this is a real pain the neck as you more frequently miss your opener.
- make sure you have plenty of pack space for all the goodies you are going to accumulate grinding for those resonant skulls.
- for the druids it's not worth the mana to decurse the banshees since it only lasts a few seconds.

i got 11 dusts before my 5th skull and i had to go back and forth between the 2 zones a few times for more mobs. i could just be unlucky.

i got 5 resonating skulls from 6 fetid skulls. the rate may have been improved recently.

In addition, the respawn rate of everything on both the upper and lower elevations is agonizingly slow. Be prepared for a grind.

Yeah I'm calling nerf to the proc chance. I made about 7-8 passes through and ended up getting a ratio of 5 resonating skulls to 16 bone dust >.<

Just picked up today and did it pretty easily found out if you have got one resonating skull and your inventory is full just pick up the fetid skull and use mystic crystal while your inventory is full and you always get resonating skull to complete faster rather than getting bone dust at times

The statement at the top of this page reads: "This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed".
Regardless, at the date of posting it is still available and is still completable (The Bone Dust which accrues in the process of this quest is defunct however, despite being white rather than grey).

n.b. The level requirements and difficulty ratings listed are also erroneous; I succesfully completed the entire quest chain with a level 43/44 Frost Mage.

Apparently, Bliz marked this quest as obsolete (top of the page in red letters as of when this post was made). I was easily able to pick the quest up and complete it. Not sure if that was a bug or if the quest is back in action, but it CAN be done.

Can still be obtained. I just got this quest today. I cannot find the Resonating Skulls, so I don't think that you can complete it.

EDIT: You can get the resonating skulls, so...IDK why this is considered "obsolete".

This quest isn't obsolete as stated at the top. As of April 2014 it can be picked up and completed. Just collect the Fetid Skulls from Scourge Champions and use the crystal to turn them into the resonating skull required for the quest.

Scourge Champions are located north in the Fungal Vale, each one drops a fetid skull, every time you get one click on your Mystic Crystal it will create either a resonating Skull or another item of no use. It probably says obsolete because it was an older quest of the same name before Cataclysm came out?

According to the quest note this quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed. I can confirm that this is not true. I completed the quest today July 11th 2015.

Don't know why it says "This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.". I just finished this withpout any problems. Only had to kill 7 of them in order to get all the skulls.

Description

Chromie said the relics you gathered are reagents to a powerful spell, and one more is required: skulls from the scourge who took part in the battle of Darrowshire.

Take this crystal and hunt scourge champions for their skulls. The crystal is enchanted; if a champion took part in the battle, then when you pass the crystal over its skull it will resonate. Bring me those resonating skulls.

Go, <name>. You'll find scourge champions in the Noxious Glade to the north and the Fungal Vale to the west.
